  1. The trouble is that people want the 8 year renewal or the lifetime permit, but they also want that to qualify as an alternate to TICS/NICS. And they can't have both. They are blaming TN legislature for not giving us the permit as an acceptable alternative but are not willing to give up their long renewal periods.
  2. Yeah I know it's a bit more complicated. But they haven't been able to grasp the whole five year renewal thing so I thought explaining the TICS would be too much. The way the ATF defines it is that TBI acts as point of contact for NICS. The bottom line of that was just supposed to be that TN isn't really double dipping.
  3. Read what I posted. Its renewal times. Again, Note: Notwithstanding the dates set forth below, permits qualify as alternatives to the background check requirements of the Brady law for no more than 5 years from the date of issuance. The permit must be valid under State law in order to qualify as a Brady alternative.
  4. TICS is an alternative to NICS. There aren't two checks run. The TBI handles it instead of going to through NICS. You would still have to pay the 10 bucks regardless. I'm not just making stuff up. Here is a link to the ATF list. https://www.atf.gov/rules-and-regulations/permanent-brady-permit-chart Here is the important verbiage. Note: Notwithstanding the dates set forth below, permits qualify as alternatives to the background check requirements of the Brady law for no more than 5 years from the date of issuance. The permit must be valid under State law in order to qualify as a Brady alternative. Utah, Hawaii, and Nevada all operate similar to TN and have permits that allow them to skip NICS checks.
  5. Done! Thanks for the feedback!
  6. I'm a firm believer that you never REALLY need to take them apart. A bore snake and CLP aerosol will take care of the gun for way longer than most of us will own them.
  7. Thanks. Hope it helps!
  8. I posted a video here a few years back that was really too dark to see. I shot a new one this weekend. I hope this helps some people. One more note that I should have mentioned when filming. If your pistol still has a magazine disconnect, then you will need to reinsert your magazine when pulling the trigger. Otherwise, the hammer won't move where you need it to.
  9. The reason that I brought this up was the TFA Facebook page. People are outraged that TN won't comply with the brady regulations to substitute a permit for a check. But it seems like those same people don't want to comply with the Brady regs either. You can't have both. Choose one.
  10. Doesn't change anything over here.
  11. What hardware does he have?
  12. I don't know numbers but it would be interesting to see the difference. More renewals would mean more revenue too.
  13. See the poll. Would you be okay with shorter time between renewals?
  14. Awesome. I did't have a chance to check it yesterday.
  15. I know a ton of cops that aren't well versed in nfa law. To think that one wouldn't understand it all isn't a stretch. Yes, it has passed in the house and senate and awaits a governor signature.
  16. Again, y'all are leaving out the fact that under current state law, you can be arrested, and taken to trial for having a silencer. Your stamp is a defense to prosecution in court. EVEN IF NOTHING HAPPENS AT THE FEDERAL LEVEL, getting rid of the DTP language in our state is GOOD thing. And supposedly, Todd Rathner and the NFAFA will be looking to do away with the DTP language for the rest of the NFA items in TN next session.
  17. A couple of weeks ago I was informed of a good deal on some rifles. I bought two single shot 22s and an H&R single shot 12 gauge for 125 dollars. I was happy and considered that a deal. One of the 22s was a pull to cock model and I have a friend that had been looking for one to replace one that was stolen. I gifted the pull to cock to him. The other 22 was this Ranger M34. A cool little rifle with a great feel and beautiful patina. The bore was pretty dirty so last night I pulled it out to start cleaning it and look at the condition. The bore cleaned up to bright and shiny with good rifling. BUT!!!! It has a bulge. About 3 inches from the muzzle. Numrich has a barrel for 51 dollars. So the way I see it, I have three options. 1. Make it a wall hanger. 2. Buy the barrel from Numrich (along with the rear sight elevation step thingy) and have someone replace the barrel for me. 3. Cut this barrel behind the bulge, new crown, and of course since I've done that, thread 1/2x28 and shoot the piss out of it. What is the opinion of the gallery?
  18. Like Garufa said, nothing changes for acquisition. It does mean that you can. No longer be arrested by locals for possession.
  19. Yes they are are less desirable for collectors. I think a lot of that has to do with numbers and condition. The Chinese rifles are rough. I know mine is. But it cleaned up (bore) pretty nice. The rest I just consider to be character.
  20. You have a Chinese Type 53 which is the chinese version of a Mosin M44. Still a pretty good deal for you!
  21. If you need a hand cataloging and researching, let me know. I'd be happy to help. I don't know that I can afford to buy any, but I can take pics and generally be a nuisance.
  22. Cool. Is it an M44 or a Type 53?
  23. I personally don't care to stick anything down the barrel if I can avoid it.
  24. .920 diameter. So slightly oversized, but close. And you could blast the stainless one to give it a matching finish. http://www.midwayusa.com/product/2696367705/yankee-hill-machine-barrel-thread-protector-cap-1-2-28-bull-barrel-steel
