  1. 1. Depends on the level of concealment and the temp. If it's really hot or I need deep concealment, it's the 380 in my pocket. If not, the double stack .45 on my belt. 2. I haven't tried a lot of IWB holsters, but the Crossbreed I have is pretty comfortable. That said, the gjohnsoniv made OWB I have is more comfortable.
  2. Awesome! A Sharps is on my bucket list.
  3. I feel sure the engineers who designed it know more about it than I do, so I'd send it in.
  4. Large, heavy, and loud.... Yep!
  5. That sucks but it happens. My wife's car got whacked in a parking lot several years ago.
  6. What they said. Save up a little more cash and get the "nifty" 50mm 1.4. It's a fantastic lens. Keep an eye on B&H used section, KEH, and eBay. They can be had for good prices, but you gotta be quick.
  7. You've already got this resolved, but I'll throw my :2cents:  in anyway...   I had an old Crate amp that sounded like ass at anything below ear bleeding volume.  Being a college dorm and/or apt dweller, that typically didn't go well.  My solution to that was to buy a distortion pedal... a Boss, I think.  Using that, I could get the distortion I liked     but keep the volume at a reasonable level.   I've ran across a screaming deal on a Peavy 212 Classic Chorus year ago and ditched the Crate.  A friend of mine in college who was quite a player had one, and the sounds he could get out of it amazed me.  It's a boat anchor, but it rarely moves these days.  I'm a hack, but it sounds good to my untrained ear.
  8.     FTFY.    It's a legal system, not a justice system.
  9. May be a bit far but Chilhowee Sportsman's Club is nice ... http://www.chilhoweesportsmansclub.com/
  10. I need to get my "storm" bag together.  This past week reminded me of that.    How hard would it be to access and use any sort of whistle or air horn when buried under said pile of rubble?  Obviously possible if you ended up in some sort of cavity where you could move around to some extent, but if you've ever been at the bottom of the "dog pile" you know that simply breathing can be difficult.  Getting a deep enough breath to blow a whistle or dig an air horn out of a bag might be impossible.   I've got a whistle that lives in my primary hiking pack but hadn't thought of one for the BOB.

Yes, make sure you have "replacement cost" coverage.  Else they'll pro-rate what they pay based on the age and life expectancy of the roof.    And don't expect them to pay for the whole thing up front.  I had mine replaced a couple years ago.  They (State Farm) gave me a check for about 50% of the cost up front, then paid the balance after the work was complete.  I had to pay the roofer the full amount.  Thankfully, they were prompt in reimbursing me, but I still had to write a check for $12,000.
  12.         I lived in Church Hill and worked in Rogersville for about 7 years.  Got friends that have lived in Bristol for at least 10 years.  Looking at the map, they're only a couple miles from where you're looking on Trammel Rd.  Its a beautiful area, we loved living there and would go back if we could.  We always laughed and said the Hawkins County motto was ... "Hey, at least we're not Hancock County."   I used to ride my motorcycle all over the place around there.  I will freely admit that you don't have to get far off the beaten path to encounter some strange things.    As with most of the other threads regarding shooting on your own property... you'll have more issues with noise complaints from neighbors than anything else.
  13.     Move the gun a bit further around... from 3:00 to 4:30 or so.  Less comfortable when sitting, but less noticeable.  Otherwise, don't worry about it.   And to add to the cell phone comments....  If anyone did notice, that's what they'd assume it was.  If you do try to cover it with a phone, I'd practice the draw/holster a bunch and make sure it doesn't interfere.    People carry some freakin' huge cell phones on their belt.  I won't carry one that doesn't fit comfortably in my pocket.
  14. Honestly yes, when I see a belt clip I know what it's attached to.  But that's because I have one too.  The average person wouldn't notice if you were on fire.  Being self-conscious and fidgety will be more of a give-away than anything else.
  15.     In the National Park not so much, though meth heads and other wackos are known to show up at trail shelters.  It's more likely to run across nefarious activities in the various forests, though that's still very rare. bThe back country is a good hiding place for people who don't want to be found.

    Tornado watches

Forgive me if I'm nit picking...   If that's the case, then why were a number of areas under a tornado warning for an hour or more last night when this morning I read "no confirmed tornadoes" in the news?  In my mind (and particularly in my wife's mind), there's a big difference between a "watch" and a "warning".

The thing that bugs me most is the over saturation.  They issue so many warnings that don't amount to anything that people (including me) are becoming numb to it and just ignore most of them.  To me, a "tornado watch" means conditions exist where one could form; while a "tornado warning" means there is a tornado.  This business of blabbering on and on about "doppler radar indicates...."  is garbage.  It does nothing but scare people unnecessarily and desensitize them.  I know they're just doing their jobs and trying to help, but it's over saturating.  They really need to refine their computer models to better distinguish between what's real and what might be real.  Easier said than done, I know.      As for the house thing... my parents' house quickly became known as the "bomb shelter" by the guys helping build it.  While it doesn't have a purpose built storm shelter or panic room inside (they weren't very common when it was built), the structure in the basement is considerable.
  19.     I understand and agree.  But being a recall, I would hope that all the relevant documentation would be available from the OEM.  One might even think that there would be a system in place to flag any recall eligible bike that came in to a dealer for service to verify that recall had been implemented.  But maybe my expectations are too high.

After all that hullabaloo, it didn't really even rain that hard at the house.  Both my kids slept through it.   Looked like Etowah got hammered.
  21.     Excepting things like constrained thermal stress, things that don't flex don't fatigue.  They may still break, but not due to high or low cycle fatigue.  It says it's made of aluminum which exhibits no endurance limit.  If it's aluminum and it flexes, it'll break eventually.  There are instances when allowing a structure to flex a bit can be beneficial and reduce the tendency to crack, but it just bugs me when marketing people make statements that are inherently wrong.  Call it a pet peeve.
  22. Agreed, very well thought out.  However... "A small degree of flex eliminates metal fatigue" ..... um, no.
