I agree, but it needs to be the right kind of nuclear. PWR's are 70 year old technology, there's way better ideas now. The NRC needs to look forward, not backwards. As for all the new neighbors..... welcome to summer in the south! We haven't had a real scorcher in a few years, we're due. It's not even July yet much less August, get ready.

Really bad flavored vodka.
-
Good. I was afraid it was another watered down flavored tourist vodka distillery.

We need to stop calling it gun violence. That gives an object to blame. It's not gun violence, it's just violence. If not guns it would be bombs, knives, acid, ....

Spend your $1000 renting a tiller for the next 10 years. No storage, no maintenance on something you'll use twice a year. Our garden is doing pretty well. Of all the seedlings we started and then planted, only 3 died. I consider that great yield. Both the spaghetti squash seedlings i planted died, but I had 2 more seedlings to replace them with. They're ok so far. One of 4 or 5 cucumber seedling died. Everything else looks good. I also transplanted 4 tomatoes, a cayenne (?) pepper, an okra, and a green bean plant that all came up in my fire pit.

I passed by that new distillery taking my younger boy to ride Go-Karts last week. What do they make?

I'll add that it's baby season so hummingbirds will feed much more heavily on bugs to provide protein for their babies. One the babies fledge, they'll be back on nectar and feeders.

We had a couple for about a week. That was maybe 3 weeks ago. None since.

I would say that God put that moral compass in your heart. I agree with you about holding parents more accountable, but not just parents. It takes a village and I bet there's a lot of villagers asking themselves some very hard questions. I hope all those officers turn in their badges. I understand that LEO's arent soldiers, but court rulings aside, no one in that community will trust them anymore.

All the schools I know of are locked in a similar fashion. But that's just security theater. Yes, those doors should be locked, but the first secure entry point should be the gate in the fence that's 100 yds from any door. The intercom should be at the gate. There should be another intercom and vestibule with metal detectors at the front door. Cameras with facial recognition software, ID scanning, etc. The fire doors in the hallways and classrooms should be closed and locked from entry from the outside. There's so many things that could be done to improve the security. As for bigotry... I saw an article that said the community was 91% Hispanic so that's a bit of a stretch. It's likely everyone he killed was Hispanic. I know we all got really excited about "red flag" laws but I suspect it'll come up again. This happened so fast that I don't think even that would've helped in this case. Background checks likely wouldn't have either, I'd guess he had no background to check.

This is where my mind goes.... how does a guy with a rifle just walk into an elementary school? The court house has lots of cops, metal detectors, and locked doors inside locked doors. Yet this guy just walks into a school? Same with Sandy Hook, Parkland, and Columbine. Mental health is clearly a big problem, but just because people are crazy doesn't mean they're stupid. I hard target isn't so appealing.

Either that's posed or his spotter isn’t going to be around long.

Welcome!

And college students. We couldn't have a toaster oven in the dorms, but we could have a toaster.

Planted a bunch of seedlings today.... sweet peppers, bell peppers, zucchini, yellow squash, spaghetti squash, 6 or 8 different types of tomatoes, couple pumpkins, cucumbers, ... plus a couple kinds of beans and peas. I think that's it. Still got hot peppers and brussle sprouts and maybe a couple other things that will go in pots tomorrow.

Something passed through and decimated the critters around our house. We had 4 bullfrogs in out fountain in the front, they're all gone. We found one beheaded body nearby. Then I found a beheaded rabbit in our back flowerbed. I'm glad to be rid of the rabbit, but i liked the frogs since they eat bugs. My wife suspects a neighbor's cat.

Movie set from the '70's?

If you're in a situation where $50 or $100 either way is gonna make or break your budget, it's time to reevaluate your priorities.

Taco bell for under $1? Not anymore...

I need to get my garden tilled so we can plant the seedlings she's grown. I'm having some trouble coming up with a tiller. Apparently it's a popular item at the rental places this week.

I have been looking for quite a while, but I'm being picky. No bites yet.

I've been salaried exempt my entire 20+ year career. I've never gotten a nickel in overtime. In that time, I've gotten exactly 1 annual merit increase that was more than inflation that year, and that was a long time ago. The other 2 salary increases have been via changing jobs. The only 40 hr weeks I've ever put in the book were vacations. 50 is generally considered the minimum, so I work to a 25% pay cut most weeks. Years ago I was told that our bonus was supposed to cover all the extra hours. I did the math once and that came to $1.87/hr. Now that I have kids, I'm exceptionally unmotivated to do anything over and above. Theres no promotion, bonus, comp time, professional development, or overtime on the table. And they wonder why they've had a hard time filling a couple empty slots.

Looks like a Browning 1917 to me.
