For that idiot in Washington to stand up there and say this kind of violence doesn't occur in other advanced countries is ludicrous. Bombings in Tel Aviv happen all the time. Our embassy was attacked in Benghazi, a city with over a million residents, but albeit maybe not an "advanced country". Subway bombings have happened in Spain and England. 85 were killed at a church camp in Norway. The list goes on and on. Obama is an idiot. Violence happens. It always has and it always will.

I got this interesting story from Shooting Illustrated this morning. Surefire's newest model of the Fury flashlight now comes with proprietary IntelliBeam Technology. Looks like it'd be pretty handy for some situations, like a work light. Not sure how I feel about it defaulting to the Intellibeam mode, but you judge for yourself. Here's a video:

I'm secretly hoping Sansa didn't survive the fall. :hiding:

I lost almost 2 pounds between doctor visits recently with no change in my eating habits and no exercise...just switched from my usual .45 acp and a pair of jeans to a Kel-Tec P-32 and a pair of shorts.

There's no substitute for slinging lead downrange, but dry-fire practice is a close substitute and it's free. Even better, IMHO, you can get a a laser cartridge (< $80) shoot at stuff in the comfort of your house/garage whenever you have spare time.. I think it helps a lot between range trips. It did a lot for my trigger control on SA/DA pistols.

My XD-s came with a paddle holster, double mag holder, at least 2 mags (can't recall if it was 2 or 3), and other accessories in a very nice case. Do they even offer that package anymore? All I've seen lately is the pistol and a mag or 2, but at least the price went way down.

I thought this was hilarious, so I told this joke 3 times at work already and only 1 person got it...his wife is a school teacher.

I'm with the others, their name is too valuable to let it die. Someone will acquire them to keep the name alive. Just some paperwork is all.

I completely get using light reloads in conjunction with a light recoil spring for a specialty pistol that will never shoot factory ammo. I've done that too. What I was referring to, but didn't make myself very clear about, are carry guns with springs that light. I'd hope for their sake that they are packing full power hollow points in a carry gun. Seems like that combo would just beat you to death and make quick follow-up shots near impossible, especially if you lack the strength to overcome the limp wristing.

Walmart strikes again, this time more serious
BigK replied to Dolomite_supafly's topic in General Chat
Honestly Dolo, I don't see how you can stand to walk in the door of that place. Sounds like they've screwed you over way more times than anyone would be able to tolerate. Either you have the patience of a saint and a far more forgiving nature than me or you're a borderline masochist (just teasing about this latter). Kick them bastards to the curb and take your hard-earned money elsewhere. I bet you'll sleep better. -
I haven't had that happen, but I can still feel your pain. I'd be just as mad. Sorry to hear that.

Seems to me that it'd require a very light recoil spring to allow you to rack the slide like he does. Somebody tell me why they use such light springs. Seems you'd be increasing recoil to me, since the spring isn't as strong. I'll give him credit, though, that underhand technique guarantees his fingers won't be in front of the muzzle when he racks the slide. I've seen a BUNCH of people do it overhand and their pinky is in front of the muzzle when they get a grip. Regardless, anyone who knows me knows I'm not a fan of front slide serrations anyway (also don't like tac rails on 1911s either, but I don't want to get that argument started again).
-
I read this article about the technique of racking/ejecting a round with an under-handed grip on the front slide serrations. I've seen it done a lot, so I question how much exposure to guns in general and shooting matches specifically this author has, but it garnered a lot of strong opinions in the comments. Here's the link to the article and the video: http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2015/06/11/under-barrel-slide-racking/ Curious what you guys think.

Kudos on the new pistol. I know exactly what you mean about letting one get away. I had a REALLY sweet SP-01 that I sold to a friend in need and regretted it fiercely. He promised if he ever got rid of it he'd give me first crack at it. As luck would have it several years later, he was looking for something different and we worked out a trade. I was very glad to have that CZ back.

Cotton swabs and pipe cleaners are my go-to pistol cleaning tools.

That's freakin sweet!!

I can't believe that woman told her kid to hit the other woman. I hope they charge her with something like child endangerment or contributing to the delinquency of a minor.

Oh yeah, that reminds me. My next door neighbor had T-Mobile and he got a decent signal too. Makes sense since AT&T and T-Mobile use the same kind of radios (GSM) and Verizon and Sprint both use the same (CDMA).
-
I wish you better luck than I've had finding a new carrier. Apparently my house is a geographical anomaly. AT&T is the only carrier that has a signal in my area. They don't know it, but I couldn't leave them, if I wanted to.

Have you given any thought to starting with a recurve bow? They're cheaper and you're less likely to get a bad one. Do you have any friends who know what to watch for on a used compound bow? Aside from obvious cracks it the limbs or riser, there's misaligned pulleys, cracks under the hardware to watch for, stripped out mounts on the riser, etc. I bought a gorgeous vintage compound with a wood riser at a gun show. It was in perfect shape to be so old. The guy at the bow shop tried to talk me out of pouring any money into 'that old thing', but I like the vintage look and was glad to update it with new accessories. I get a big kick out of shooting the old gal, but like you said, the new models are just amazing. They're almost as easy to shoot as a rifle nowadays, LOL.

I'd give any 2 of my guns to my wife, if it'd get her to the range with me.

You clearly have retro taste. Hope you find what you're looking for.

The article says this is being PROPOSED by the State Department. The duties of the State Department include the following: Serves as the President's principal adviser on U.S. foreign policy; Conducts negotiations relating to U.S. foreign affairs; Grants and issues passports to American citizens and exequaturs to foreign consuls in the United States; Advises the President on the appointment of U.S. ambassadors, ministers, consuls, and other diplomatic representatives; Advises the President regarding the acceptance, recall, and dismissal of the representatives of foreign governments; Personally participates in or directs U.S. representatives to international conferences, organizations, and agencies; Negotiates, interprets, and terminates treaties and agreements; Ensures the protection of the U.S. Government to American citizens, property, and interests in foreign countries; Supervises the administration of U.S. immigration laws abroad; Provides information to American citizens regarding the political, economic, social, cultural, and humanitarian conditions in foreign countries; Informs the Congress and American citizens on the conduct of U.S. foreign relations; Promotes beneficial economic intercourse between the United States and other countries; Administers the Department of State; Supervises the Foreign Service of the United States. Somebody tell me where restricting free speech over the internet is in that list, please.

Here's a decent video of how to make a vacuum press. I doesn't give specs, but looked pretty simple to me. I think the chocolate is optional, LOL.

I built a sandwich press for forming the Kydex, but I prefer to shape by hand using a heat gun and some thick leather gloves. EDIT: added pic of kydex press:
