My house got shot up last night, by an idiot with an airgun
A.J. Holst replied to A.J. Holst's topic in Training Discussions
Rentors down the hill are horrified and will get it fixed. Grandson was shooting, Stella said he was shooting towards the woods (there is a target in a safe area). No idea he changed directions. I think he changed directions because he couldn't see and used the porch light for illumination. From his perspective, shooting up hill, if I over shoot, no way I'll hit that house (if it even registered) -
We've been enjoying a trio the last 3 weeks. 1 male (red throat) and two females - beautiful green stripe down their backs. The females do compete and will chase each other. (2 feeders, store bought hummingbird safe pre mixed nectar)

As hard as they tried to spin the CMP as evil, all they could come up with was more guns end up on the streets, those now illegal guns can be traced back to the guv'mint, and it's a give away - .gov should retain the profits from the sales. 1. Other than theft, I am unaware of an effort to move surplus M1, M1C, 1903 or 1911s into the criminal element. 2. Traced back to the original purchasers, who are CMP members. 3. What would a new .gov bureaucracy to handle the disposition of CMP eligible weapons cost...CMP thinks they'll make $18m from 1911 sales, .gov would be lucky to break even. I hope it causes some of the libs who are able to think, actually think.

My house got shot up last night, by an idiot with an airgun
A.J. Holst replied to A.J. Holst's topic in Training Discussions
Last night I was in my office which faces the rear of the house, I hear what sounds like a spring recoiling. Look around, nothing out of ordinary, perhaps structure contracting as it cools off, maybe the spring in a window track finally gave up the ghost. Head off to bed. This morning, I notice an imperfection in the window, closer inspection, a BB hit. More inspection reveals my lower patio door has one shattered glass panel with obvious BB impact and multiple impacts in the vinyl siding. Filed on line report with BCSO. Then noticed some cans and a box on the rental porch down the hill. A quick, covert mission revealed can and box used for targets, with exit holes oriented towards my house. My house became the back stop. I'll be knocking on the door in about 20 minutes. Know your target and what's beyond Don't point your projectile thrower towards anything you don't wish to destroy of poke holes in What if I had been downstairs when that door shattered? Not being tactically trained, I have a pretty simple set of non John Wick moves. I know I would have drawn and moved to acquire a good position, screamed for Mrs. GtGs to dial 911 (yes, she understands her job for this big IF) Using some rehearsed phrases, in an outside voice, encourage the BG, to stop his encroachment. I suspect my next moves are predicted upon the BG proceeding with the forced entry. Be safe my friends! -
Are these Equadorian Mountain or Mexican Whooping Llamas? If the seller was dishonest, you may actually have North Chillean Guanacos. And yes, this is an obscure reference to a British comedy movie and my odd sense of humor.

Glad you found a solution! I've used a non tuckable N82 for years and Steel is not exaggerating the comfort. Shame they don't offer shirts with square cut tails design to be worn untucked. Maybe buy a few, get them logo'd and show up, doubt you'd get sent home.

Having attended many active shooter seminars, I was under the impression that LE procedure is first responder (s) are to engage the shooter as back up is on the way. I've posted before I'm not trained nor inclined to run towards gun fire, but if I can make a difference, I hope I have the courage and presence of mind to fight vs. flight or freeze.

Having just added .357 Sig (and .40) because of an awesome gun deal, I've been learning about this round. I was NOT planning on adding another caliber to my mix. It's early in the process, but I think I shoot the .357 better than .40 As an original .357 mag guy, I think it's a pretty cool roound and beginning an emotional attachment. I like how it mimics .357 magnum, just not sure if the improved barrier penetration is needed, considering the Hornady Critical Duty in 9mm does well. A PCC or PDW in .357 Sig would be awesome. I saw a chassis for Glock and Sig. Practice ammo price is a deterrent. Off the shelf I can buy 9 for $10/50, .40/.380 for $13/50 and .357 Sig jumps to $25-$40/50 (similar to .357 mag) SD ammo is surprising affordable, price per round in line with most 9/.40/.45 I compared it to. Welcome aboard!

I think Greg means know fair market value range and price accordingly based on condition. I'm in East TN and have gun money from time to time. I also like chances R perspective, you're not desperate to sell, so who cares how long it will take to get the deal you want. We also like to trade...my favorite.

Welcome aboard, the trading post is a good, safe, secure place for buyers and sellers to virtually meet and coordinate the face to face. As far a meeting someone in a parking lot; well known to me or known to a person I trust. TGO members are special, I'll meet with them in dark alleys...

Ah, the Get-me-Dones. If you detect this profile during the meet and greet, does your dealership process allow you to take a credit app and see where you are? That way your sales / finance manager could guide you to the right priced / mileage unit. Meaning they may qualify for an Optima, have fallen in love with leather and sunroof and now you get to re-sell them a base model. Another possibility would be a Soul fits their needs, but land on a Sorrento because of desire. After you educate them, they get offended, and go to the next dealership prepared to buy the right vehicle. Good luck!

My livelihood has revolved around auto sales and lending since 1988. I have left, but always come back. Steel is right, the fun factor is all but gone from auto retail. Old timers say it's the internet making it hard.I say the internet reduces the price conversation...the dealer has to put his most competitive price on line to get folks to the lot. Web based technology, along with mobile device messaging is how people like to communicate and research. It's not the internet. Unless the math has changed, you talk to 7-8 to sell 1. Is there a common point of suckiness? Customers? Agressive salesmen? (it's not really a team environment) Car business drama?

My first Sig, updated with post range report opinions
A.J. Holst replied to A.J. Holst's topic in Handguns
First off, when I said first Sig, I am a true noob with this brand. Read a lot, what should I expect when shooting it, especially having never shot more than a mag of .40 and never any .357 Two items caught my attention, higher bore axis and these calibers can be harsh. Having a lot of time on the 75B, it's my opinion the difference in recoil is negligible in the bore axis arena and hard to compare inequal barrel lengths. While the .40 and .357 had more report and muzzle rise, the pistol with a full grip is manageable and qualifies in my world as a range / fun gun. .40 is cheap right now, about $12.50 / 50. Found 20 rounds of Sig Vcrown for $12.99 .357 Sig seems to be priced like .357 Magnum. At 3-5 yards, 3"-4" groups, 200 round .40, 50 rounds .357 No malfunctions of any kinds. Cleaning was a breeze, take down level is a nice feature. Interior of the gun is as nicely finished as the exterior. Found a P229 mag, supposedly compatible ($42.99) at Bud's; fit properly and functioned out of the box. What gave me the personal connection to this gun was shooting .,357 for the first time, because it was like shooting .357 for the first time. At 3-5 yards, shooting indoors, after you discharge your .357 Magnum Revolver (my first handgun), the pressure wave following the bullet will push a free hanging target. It was one of those, "did that really happen? How cool is that," moments. Not sure if giving up 2 rounds is worth the marginal increase performance. Being a traveling sales rep, the .357 Sig barrier penetration would come in handy in a Death Race / Mad Max type of work situation. -
Carbine owner and brand fan here. Looks like Cap'n A got some of that cheap import knock off vibranium I've been hearing about. Ugly? Eye of the beholder. I've seen those dollar bill grips, why not have a conversation starter? Heavy? 25oz, 29oz with 8 shots. Blunt striking object? Absolutely. Use snap caps for dry firing

I had the opportunity to speak with a TWRA marine officer about guns on boats. I was always prepared to repel boarders, but what is the rule? (Got out of boating about 10 years ago, so I could be wrong) He said they operate in a gun rich environment, so don't get particularly nervous around firearms. If you are a recreation boater and have a scoped out .308, big daddy camo'd shotgun and a traditional hunting pistol...they will be asking a lot more questions and performing a more detailed search of your vessel. The only shade of gray is the guy starting out (as I did) pressing a 870 or equivalent with a 28" bbl into HD/SD service with buck shot.

My first Sig, updated with post range report opinions
A.J. Holst replied to A.J. Holst's topic in Handguns
Sig has discontinued it, so probably the reason for the close out. Haven't seen or handled a Rami in years, looked around back in June, but decided against it. Closest comparison is my P01 with thin aluminum grips. I have medium sized hands; the thinner CZ (and my 75B) are both more comfortable. The controls on the CZs are traditional and more left handed friendly than the Sig. I get better initial trigger finger pad placement on the Sig vs. either 75. Getting a nice, high grip on both, so equal in that regard. I did test carry in my repurposed N82 Tactical holster, AIWB, the grip height works very well with my body shape, equivalent to my G19/26 and better than the CZs. The reason I opted out on the Rami is the extra coin I know I would have spent sending it to CGW. After picking up the Walther through the trading post, I thought I was done. I think Sig saw no futue offering it; the current customer base already bought, the new customer base has a lot more options for way less money, even if they have full / compact metal Sig's. Lurking over on Sig talk, the P365 and P320 seem to be popular. If I was buying my first Sig at fair market, it probably wouldn't be a P224. If I was looking for a 10-12 round compact/sub compact, the Sig is at the upper end of price competing against a lot of quality handguns. If I had other handguns in .40 / .357 Sig or simply thought the modularity was cool, it would be on my radar. Rumor is BarSto is running a batch of 9mm barrels, estimated MSRP $200, unknown if it would need to be fitted. Hoping to shoot it Sunday. -
My BgB (best gun buddy) ended up with two P224s and was considering selling one. This one came with the .40 and .357 barrel, night sights, improved trigger and upgraded G10 grips...and yes, I got the BgB deal. First impressions opening the box, this is a beefy pistol and looks bigger than it is, despite being dimensionally the same height and lengths as a G26 (and Walther PK 380) The front strap height is where I get picky with any compact or smaller pistol. I can shoot with my pinky unsupported, but don't like it. With the mag extension, the front strap allows all 3 fingers to grip and it is the same height as a G26 and Kimber Micro with an extended mag. Comparing it to my svelte CZs, I can hear the Sig guys saying, "we're here to pump up your little girly man pistols." It is the thickest pistol I own at 1.50", but the grip shape feels better than my modifed G19/26. I am impressed with the trigger; advertised at 10# DA and 4.4# SA. The DA pull is smooth, I can only detect a little friction. I'm not a trigger snob, but can compare to other guns sent to a custom shop. No stacking, even with a slo-mo pull. SA break, reset and take up are good enough that a trip to the Sig Armorer is not immediately (if ever) required. My opinion only, I think the Sig trigger may be good out of the box and easy to improve due to it's design. It appears to be similar to the CZ Omega trigger, in that it has a single trigger bar vs. the traditional horseshoe shape in my non-Omega CZ. A few things to get use to: frame mounted decocker is great, but for a lefty, takes a little extra manipulation to engage and the slide release is definitely positioned for a righted handed shooter. Assuming it passes a function test and I can shooter it accurately, the grip height is great for my body shape and AIWB.

A Google search will reveal all the cool combos owners have done to their HPs. I like Red's hydo dipped Glock, very nice! Make sure the surface is clean of oils AND cleaning solvent. Scuffing the surface is not a bad idea (don't want it to look shiny) If you don't like the finished product, easy enough to change.

Hi RotorHead, First, thank you for your example of strength, hope, and optimism in your winning fight against cancer! Since I primarily carry on the waist with a cinched belt, my first thought was shoulder holster, but zero experience. Depending on your experience with the belly band, ankle carry may be an option. Good luck with your search!
