truth. The 38 s&w is about like a 380. It will kill you, but its not a powerhouse.

Its hard to pick between those but I would prefer the 1911. We had an SP and prefer the GP by a wide margin; the gp felt better with larger grips and holds one more so less reloading, more shooting. Now if it were between the 1911 and a GP... just depends on if you want a revolver or an auto. But the auto still wins (slightly) because even the GP has some recoil with 357s, the 1911 is tame and more suited to long range sessions. And cocking the revolver for aimed shots gets old, while the auto is ready to go. But I say that as a guy that empties 2 boxes at a time :)

that struck me as odd too. They didn't elaborate so it could be anything from a very odd art project to some sort of conspiracy theory. /shrug anything from a historian to someone touched by personal loss there to a bloodthirsty psychopath could answer that one. But to put it in perspective, we had a fair # of people here who knew a fair bit about the event. Clearly it has a passing interest to folks who remember it -- people took the time to look up facts and learn about what really went down as best they could from the info available. Someone took the time to make that movie, for example. I consider this to be an odd but similar creation.

I have a cheap one that collapses into a forend grip. Its stable enough for the 50-100 yard aimed shots. Its not really sturdy enough for super rapid fire, but for $30 it does well enough. I have shot a few hundred rounds thru it with the bipod extended for bench rested & prone shots. Be sure to get one that accommodates your mags. If you have large mags, and a short bipod, it don't work too good.

welcome! There are a number of us in chattanooga. I moved here to escape GA taxes but grew up in walker.

I don't get the fuss over it. Someone built and donated the thing, and they display it. It is a sorry piece of our history, but history is what it is. The waco assault has been documented many times before. I see no significant difference between the video above, a book on the subject, or a tacky wooden model of the area. Its all the same to me -- documentation of a significant event. Study it. I doubt the ATF have changed their tactics, might come in handy someday to have such a handy tool :)

The police should be treated exactly like anyone else IMHO. If guns are not allowed, they are not allowed. A police state can be defined by having one group that is armed and another that is disarmed. Giving special consideration to officers is WRONG and is a step in the WRONG direction.

ah, nice, an older one! I missed the name change on those, ty for the link.

heh not really. IMI is out of the picture and has been for a while. The BDE was brought to you by the good old USA, via khar. IMI only worked on the one design, the magnum caliber extra large frame design. IMI does rock though -- the uzi alone was quite the creation, and they also did the tavor bullpup if I am not mistaken.

Shove one in your pocket and get back to me on that :P the 17 and 19 are solid picks outside of deep concealment. They work. Glock was a quantum leap when it came out. I disagree about the "as far as we can go" with powder and metallic cartridges as well. There is an upper limit on that technology but we have not even scratched it. Many, many cartridges run at a relatively low pressure for their case capacity. And modern powder is not made to the highest possible mix either. All told it would not surprise me that if tomorrow someone found a way to make CHEAP chambers/barrels/hardware that could withstand the pressure, within a few years we could get magnum performance out of existing small rounds (9mm, maybe even 380 could probably bypass 357 if we removed the danger of blowing up a gun). With the strongest propellant and explosive primer we can make with modern chemistry we could probably triple the pressure spike and punch the rounds out supersonic. It would be harsh recoiling, loud, overkill, and generally undesirable. And lets face it -- if someone found a way to make transparent aluminum or whatever for the chamber, it would cost an arm and a leg for a long time to come..... I can already put a triple charge in many, many cases. I don't do it because I only have a steel chamber and no replacement face.

yea I am not a walther fan at all but the PPQ is a nice design -- they did something right there.

I think you should call. 1000000000 random idiots call me every week wanting to take my money or get my personal info. I can't see how calling someone to see if they are doing OK could possibly be more intrusive or in any way wrong ---- on a scale of 1-10, someone I barely know calling to check on me would be at least a 3/10 compared to say the NRA or local fire dpt which gets a 10/10. (1 being the best).

what quantum leap are you thinking should happen? You have micro 9mms that are really beefed up micro 380 frames -- they have low capacity but hold more than a revolver & reload easier while taking up far less real estate. And you have bigger stuff that holds more in every flavor under the sun. As other said you can run a glock 17 or 19 with any size mag from 10 to 30+ but they are large and fat. They could make something odd like a doublestack pocket sized to get 10 or 12 rounds in a micro but that seems unpopular. Getting away from the L gun shapes you could make a palm pistol or something but those sorts of things have a stigma ("assassin pistols"). Same for "derringers" (which are silly anyway since close to same size as the 380 frames that hold 4 times more). 50+ years later there is still a stigma for "sat night special" designs and "zip guns". there may not be a quantum leap to be had due to the customer base. - it has to be so big to hold comfortably and messing with the shape requires a lot of engineering and costs with a big risk of a poor seller. - the more ammo you stuff in it, the bigger it is - too short a barrel cuts the velocity/energy significantly - electrical augmentation would be sweet but then ppl would bitch about it having a dead battery in an emergency in spite of modern batteries that last decades (remotes, watches, etc). Think a true touch-trigger -- like a microwave or whatever touch button -- and a motor does the work. LOTS of things you could do THERE but again it would not fly with the community. - going lighter is very expensive (titanium, for example) and increases recoil issues. so there are multiple things we could DO if you wanted a $50k gun. But most ppl want a $500ish gun.

1) No, you don't fire into groups of people at random. If you are being assaulted, you stop the threat. If someone else is being assaulted *AND* YOU think they are in danger of serious harm (IE, its not just a shoving match or old school fist fight but one person is down and not even fighting back, the other(s) pounding on the victim as in the case here) you stop the attack. 2) Possibly. It depends on what is actually going on. There is a time to fight and a time to run. Can't say without being there. 3) its called a citizen's arrest. But you might need to explain WHY you have handcuffs at all.

Right, the LA riots were actually riots. And I doubt I could count on one hand the # of those in the USA in my lifetime with fingers left over. If someone is trying to pull you out of your car, as I said, a handgun & carbine is sufficient if you can't just roll over em in your car. Forcible extraction is something else. You get some friends and hardware first. Getting clear vs going in with a goal in mind are totally different tactics.

Hopefully they found the right guy. Sometimes I get a vibe that for highly publicized cases they grab the most likely guy to give the appearance of doing something. The time frame to arrest someone has been longer than usual, though, so hopefully they know something that will lead to justice. Calling the crime is apparently an art form. By going for death, they *want* you to believe their evidence is overwhelming, at least. In a case like this going for any other punishment or lesser charges are like saying "my case is weak". It wouldn't do to try to prove manslaughter or something in a case like this.

And now Panera joins the ranks of the noncommital statement

agreed but its in context. If they DON'T say "please leave it at home" they will be invaded by morons toting rifles. -
the watch is cool but like so many other things I don't have a use for it. I can take or leave apple. I never liked their computers, but they have had more than their share of innovation.

a pistol and carbine in the same caliber are more than enough to handle "unrest". If by unrest you mean idiots blocking the road and burning down buildings and looting and so on, like those morons last month were doing. Odds are you won't be shooting even if people are so-called "rioting" ** but simply stuck in traffic for a long, long, long time and while you might *want* to shoot your way clear you probably shouldn't.... *** contrary to popular and media's misuse, a riot would be an armed conflict between authorities and civilians (usually, or police and prisoners, etc). We have not had many; and when we do, the police usually win. Get away from it is your best strategy. When the cops are using rubber bullets and tear gas, they are not yet serious about it.

I have no real problem with having an actual dimensions line added. I have a serious problem with having to pay tons of money for using the accepted name of the product which has been called that by everyone since like 300 years ago or something. Bullet ppl better wise up and stop calling them things 38s etc....

I will take it. As long as they do not post the sign, I am satisfied. What did you expect, for a national chain to alienate 50% of its potential customers with a hard line stance (either direction??). The economy isnt so good that a business can afford to do that. And at the end of the day, they just want to sell you food and make a profit without any politics. And as far as it goes, going neutral IS standing up the to morons against guns movement. Those groups want 100% police state and will settle for nothing less, so ignoring them with a neutral stance is both a victory for us (esp considering we have no movement that is organized and loud) and a defeat for them. And again, its good business practice. I know if I owned a (not gun related) business that operated in NY and CA and the other police states, I would not want to drive my customers away with my personal views. I would rather take their money and recycle some of it to a pro-gun group on the side :) -
if you load your own, get the biggest thing you might want -- the 300 or whatever. You can almost always find a decent light load that will cover the weaker choices you passed over; pretty sure for example that you could make a 300 load that mimics 06 or 308 but you can't make an 06 match a full bore 300. If you don't load your own, get the round that does the job at the lowest cost; 308 looks mighty good when talking economics. or if you don't care about economics, get the coolest thing that appeals to your fun factor.

I agree, I think the guy is being a lazy bum. There are people who will hire anyone who is willing to work. I specifically said not profane. Co-workers, tourists, and whoever else (including anyone who encounters the individual outside of adult oriented establishments) should not be subjected to profanity or porn on someone's forehead or whatever, and that is absolutely valid reason for anyone not hiring someone. IMHO body art that is seen in public should be rated PG-13 at the worst. For non profane art, if a guy sits at a computer all day or on an assembly line or whatever else, out of the general view of the customers, and is excellent at the job, their "professional" (read, 1900s era dress and grooming) look does not matter and should have 0 bearing on hire/not hire. Using an unrelated piece of data that has no bearing on the subject at hand to make decisions is ignorant, by definition. If, on the other hand, the person is expected to represent the company, the data is no longer unrelated but important.

the sig 9mm has an ambi safety. It is reading 0.95 inches (using calipers) on the average gun body and 1.2 across the safties. The width is your least concern comparing the two. That was an average across the slide, grips, and frame. The frame is thinnest and the grips/slide wider of course.

If you know of any online stores that sell unlubed cast bullets for a good price please let me know. There does not seem to be a huge difference in cast bullets and cheap plated from Xtreme from what I am seeing now. I have looked at Falcon, Missouri, SNS, and Lucky 13 and prices, especially with shipping from a couple of the places that do not offer free shipping, are very close to plated. I wish I was setup to cast my own, but unfortunately that is not an option at this time. I do not have the space in my garage, especially with a young kid running around. Thanks for any info! Missouri puts a lube on theirs but you *may* be able to ask for some unlubed ones (they seem to be willing to work with you). The trick to buying from them is to buy the right amount per order as they fill a flat rate shipping box. I think 4 standard boxes (500 each) fills a flat rate box and that is a good starting point for getting a decent shipping price.
