1. I am considering getting a new carry gun. I want a 9MM subcompact. The choices available are almost overwhelming, but what I am focused on is: Smith&Wesson Shield Item Number: 11673 Walther PPS M2 Beretta Nano Ruger lc9s I considered the Sig Sauer P365 but I'm not sure the reliability is there yet on that gun. Currently I carry a Smith&Wesson 442 .38 special snub nose revolver. I like this gun for it's ease of carry but I would like a few more rounds. I own a CZ 75 compact 9MM. I love the way that gun shoots, it is much easier to get on target and be accurate but it is just too heavy to carry on a daily basis. I am slender, so concealment is somewhat difficult at times. That's part of the reason for the subcompact requirement. So, what's the recommendation for a reliable, easy to conceal great shooting subcompact? Any recommendations on stores local to the Nashville-Murfreesboro area? Thank, Terry
2. I recently ran across a deal(at least I think so) on a Colt Gold Cup National Match 70 series on another forum that I belong to. I've always wanted one in 70 series and passed on a few due to the price($1200- $2000 plus) this one I got for $850. I checked the serial# on Colts web-site and it showed it was made in 1981. The slide to frame fit is tight with no movement or rattle, has the original box(has seen better days but it is original to the gun) has a collet bushing and it fits tight to the Bbl. front strap has the vertical serrations, original grips. I haven't had time to put some rounds down it yet, but hopefully soon. Here are a few pics.
3. Starting in the mid 90’s S&W was tapping the 686 for a scope mount. Are they still doing it on new 686’s? If you open your cylinder and look at the inside top of the frame there will be three tapped holes. All mine are pre-locks, and not tapped; never thought I’d be looking for one that’s not.
4. I know most gun owners don't care for the older Ruger P-Series , especially the younger gun owners. But while at Guns And Leather in Greenbrier I came upon a nice like new used Ruger P-345 stainless slide , with the box , 3 magazines and all for $295. The insides looked like they may have shot no more than 50 rds . I went back there twice , had the cash in hand and some how resisted buying it. I went out set on buying some AR500 shooting steel. I got my steel later on in the day but I swear that Ruger was a sweet deal ! Just thought I'd pass this on since GNL is a great place and I think Mr. William's son is a member here. Those guns were built to last , even though this one and the P-95's and P-97's had polymer rails built into the frame. They just run and run with no wear at all on those polymer rails. So anyone want a good reliable gun at a great price , GNL has it !
5. I just bought a brand new m1911 I loaded the mag and the mag want lock in the gun any ideas why that is
6. A friend of mine sent me this from the Bersa gun forum and I found it very informative and had some interesting stats. The man that made the survey spent a lot of time creating it and I think it seem pretty accurate. Makes a good read on a rainy day. I know there will be a few pesimists to this so after some folks have read it maybe we can have a non argumental discussion. https://www.buckeyefirearms.org/alternate-look-handgun-stopping-power
7. After the first of the year, I’m looking to pick up a entry level (~$500) 1911. It will be purely for range use as I prefer DAO for my carry weapons. It should go without saying but, it needs to be in .45–Any suggestions? I’ve had a Taurus in the past and it was pretty solid but I didn’t like that some of the parts weren’t interchangeable with traditional 1911 components. Oh, the less obnoxious the slide markings, the better. I’m a bit of a minimalist when it comes to logos and such. Thanks!
8. Has anyone sent their gun back to get it replaced or repaired through this? Times about to expire soon to do it and I have a Pt111 G1 that I'm thinking about sending in. The way I read it they can't repair them, they just have to replace them with a G2. Mine is pretty beat up because I bought a used. But I've bought some extra magazines and even an extra slide for it. So on the fence about it.
9. I hope everyone had a great Christmas!
10. I thought I would share a product that others might have an interest in. It's an extended magwell from Samson Mfg for the M&P Shield that replaces the plastic slide on filler that goes on the factory +1 mags. I always run the +1 mags so this was a something I wanted to try since I dislike the S&W plastic fillers since they tended to never stay in place on the spare mag I also carry. The magwell is not permenently attached so it can be removed if needed. It adds no extra length to the grip compared to the factory +1 setup. It's made of aluminum and appears to be good quality with no sharp edges. You'll notice the front of the magwell has a slight "hook" shape and I really like the way it feels in the hand. Additionally, now you can release the mag without having to release your finger off the grip like you had to with the factory setup. The normal price runs $49, but I got it on sale for $39 back in Nov. Overall, I'm pleased with the product at this point, but I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. I don't expect that to change once I do. Link to the product below. https://www.samson-mfg.com/compact-magwell-natural.html

Sig 365 ?

Curious if anyone has any opinions or had any range time with a Sig p365 ? Looks like an interesting sub-compact.
12. I was interested in a 380 maybe to carry, but do not like the itty bitty carry ones (they do have their advantages). Anyway, I sort of gave up on a medium size 380 to carry cauise of cost, weight, etc.. That said, there are some that would work, EX: Bersa make a Carry Model of the Bersa Thunder. Anyway, that search led me to Hi Point (USA Made in Ohio) for a fun target gun (It would be large and heavy to carry at 6.75 inches and 2 1/4 Lbs with 8 RD MAG loaded). After reviewing (U-Tube - mostly positive performance) and seeing price I bought a 380 ($129.99 plus tax and background at Bud's in Sevierville, TN). This one had only one clip (in the gun), a Ghost (peep) sight as extra, and a decent Plastic Hardcase (I did not realize I was getting a hard case when I made the buy as they show a gun, one with a commentator (that one comes with an extra 10 RD MAG), and one with a hardcase on web site -- prices vary on options). Can buy accessories online (E-Bay) and at Hi Point. I bought an extra 8RD MAG at Floyd's in Sevierville for $19.99 plus tax (that is high but decided to help a local dealer who also had 380 AMMO,brass, on sale at $8.99 plus tax). Then just ordered a 10 Rd MAG from HI Point for $19.50 free ship and no tax. I bought the gun SAT, shot 86 rounds thru it SUN. I ahd one fail to load (nose dive) after firing the very first round (second one nose dived). Then all the rest worked GREAT (no failures). I had lubed the gun SAT Eve (parts I could as I did not disassemble cause you have to punch a pin out to take slide off). I made some adjustments to the sights (probably most of it was me anyway, but it shot a bit low, 2 inches, and right, 1 inch, at 15 foot). Eventually got the last group in a 3 inch target at 15 foot (good for me). The gun is a bit as I call it (Clunky) at 29 OZ and 36 OZ with loaded MAG. It has some funny features (there is not a slide release button, it locks back after last round and you have to remove the MAG and jerk the slide back and release it to close it). Not a big deal, just an unusual thing. Once you load a MAG in it and pull slide back to load a round (the trigger pull has a sligh move to firm and then a decent release) - same on auto loads. I PRESENT all this as an opinion that it is a decent gun (reliable based on U-Tube and my limited use so far) for a VERY Reasonable Price (say around $129.99). I also notice they have Carbines in mid $300 range in all calibers (380, 9MM, 40, 45, 10MM). I am not interested, but some might be. GO TO THEIR WEB SITE. My first two Groups (Adj sights a bit between 1st and 2nd group). I wanted to post the last group all but one in black of a 3 inch target at 15 foot (one was just out of the black). Like I said, I am not a competition marksman, but did good for me after adjusting rear sight Up and to Left. This site would not allow the extra KBytes (over 49KB).
13. From top to bottom 2009 RAMI 2075 P 2013 SDP, an improved P01 from CZC with CGW grips. and the one that started it all, my beloved 2006 75B Omega, improved by CGW with Hakan Pek grips. All in 9mm with mag compatibility, though I have not tried the 18 MecGars in the RAMI yet. I like the SDP the least, while the trigger is smooth, it's slightly bumpy, which makes sense since you are moving parts in a complicated decocker sear cage. It is also equipped with Heinie 2 dot sights and I've been a 3 dot guy for nigh 30 years. I'm planning on using the RAMI in the upcoming training class with Randy. If I like shooting it, I will send it off to CGW.
14. Is the Bersa Thunder made in stainless steel or the one you see on Gunbrokers that are called ss just plated satin nickel?
15. I’m kicking around the idea of scoping a revolver. Curious to see what set-ups others have used. I was going to do it with one of my center fire revolvers, but they are not drilled and tapped for it. My 617 is, so I may do it first. I’m looking at a conventional scope. I already have a Vortex Venom Red Dot on a pistol. I’d be interested in what scope and mount you chose. Pictures would be great.
16. . Hey, this guy at work brings me a bag with a completely disassembled Colt .38. The last patent date on the barrel is 1888, and the serial # is 67. Says COLT D.A. 38. Any idea when it was made?
17. Earlier this evening I was riding around with my wife and little girl listening to Guns And Leather Radio Hour. My little girl got to talking loud and I only caught a little of they said , but they were saying that a certain Taurus semi-auto in 9mm would go bang every time you pulled the trigger. I don't think it was the larger Taurus shaped like the Beretta 92 , I think it was a smaller 9mm. They were talking to a caller who asked how the smaller 9mm guns were selling and the Taurus was mentioned. Anyone know which one they were talking about ?
18. It looks to be nearly identical to my Taurus Millenium G2. I'm wondering if there is enough difference to warrant an upgrade to the G2C.
19. Hi, whats the best sight pusher in the <$100 range? Looking at a couple and it seems the general rules about build quality and fit/finish apply. Wondered if there's one that's considered the go-to. Thanks!

AR Pistols?

Lately I've been noticing a lot of AR pistols for sale around here. I'm beginning to like the idea. I really like the looks of one. Especially when decked out with Magpul furniture and a blade stock. I'm sorta gettin' an itch here and I'd like to know what the group here thinks about them. Many years ago when I was a young troop in Uncle Sam's Green Machine, my issue weapon for a while was a M3 Grease Gun. I really liked it. So the idea of a sub-gun sized weapon has a certain appeal to me. However, I think I'd prefer one in a pistol caliber. Either 9mm or .45acp. Being a 1911 type guy and with my previous experience with the M3, I'm leaning toward something in .45acp. I'm also a reloader, so ammo cost isn't really a decisive factor here. I've also heard that firing the 5.56 out of such a short barrel has a really nasty muzzle flash and is extremely loud. So another reason to go with a pistol caliber. However, there are several listed locally in 5.56 at what seem to be reasonable prices. So maybe I shouldn't rule them out? Also, it doesn't necessarily have to be a AR platform. Just something in that basic size and pistol type configuration. So I am open to suggestions. I've done a bit of checking around the web. PSA is currently out of everything in pistol calibers. Other guns often sell for $1000+. I don't want to spend that kind of money on what will pretty much be a range toy. So I'm open to suggestions. So tell me, what are your experiences with the AR type pistols? The good, bad and ugly? Caliber choices? Accuracy at say 100 yards? Worth it or a waste of money? BTW: there's a gun show here next weekend. I'd like to know what to look for or even if I should bother looking.
21. I'm just curious. A Gen 4 G19, hardly shot, steel sights, grip plug, 8 mags (one 10 rd, one happy stick). $600-625 fair?

Pietta 1873

So, I bought a Pietta 1873 in .357 Magnum this afternoon as my Christmas gift. My wife says I have to wrap it up and have it under the tree by Christmas. I however took it to the range this afternoon after purchase. After the first box of Remington UMC .38SPC I started having failure to fire 5/6 rounds on the second box. I am not sure it this is ammo or gun. I saved the brass from all rounds, and I can't tell a difference in the primer strikes from the good to the not good rounds. The pin is extending into the chamber area maybe 1/16 of an inch. I guess I will take my only other .38SPC that I know is good, a RIA M206, and try to fire off the rest of the box of Remington UMC, and try a known good box of Winchester .38SPC in the Pietta and see how that goes. Anyone have an experience with these? It is a range gun for fun, but that doesn't mean I don't want it to be 100% functional and reliable.
23. I need help? My husband has want to take the handgun carry class and get a small concealed weapon for some time now and I have been his detourant... I know shame. He's a sportsman hunting fishing etc. But nothing small... I want to change that for Christmas! But I have no idea what to get or ask for or if I'm being ripped off? Can someone please help?
24. Just in case some of you have one or know someone who has one. https://www.gunsamerica.com/digest/walther-issues-urgent-recall-for-select-pps-m2-pistols/?utm_source=email&utm_medium=20181123_FridayDigest_201&utm_campaign=/digest/walther-issues-urgent-recall-for-select-pps-m2-pistols/
