Rem Oil Lube

I once used Rem Oil to lube all my pistols. Got away from it and been using CLP to lube them now. I want to ask you guys, what do you all think of Rem Oil brand for lube. It is graphite based and dries after contact leaving a film of graphite to reduce friction and make metal slide easier. I really liked it because of no mess after lubing.

The reason I am asking is I cleaned and lubed one of my MP 9 C pistols and went to get it last week to practice. When I picked it up the lube had run out on the outside of the downed portion of the pistol. I really don't like that. Had to go get a rag and wipe excess CLP from the pistol. The Rem Oil never did that. Thinking of going back to REM Oil. I really don't like to disassemble every time and pinpoint lube but like to spray and walk sometimes.  Your thoughts on Rem Oil as lube?

I keep thinking that some years ago folks had brought up some issue with Remoil having teflon in it and that causing something or other to cause something or other with something or other.
I may be wrong on that, and, as you can tell, I can’t remember exactly what the issue was, or if it even had anything to do with teflon. I just remember folks bringing up some perceived problem with Remoil a few years back.
I’ve been using other types of oil for the last several years, but I can’t remember having any problems myself with Remoil.

So there’s my perfectly useless two cents.

Just looked it up online and saw complaints about it being too thin and running out of people’s guns onto the stucks, etc. BUT, Remoil is a surface treatment/lube and they recommend that you wipe off any excess.
Even though I use other lubricants now, I wouldn’t have a conniption fit if I had to use Remoil.
All that said, I’ve been experimenting (for years) with Mobil 1 motor oil (0-20 or 30 I think) as recommended by some tacticool dudes on some tacticool forums. Sometimes I will mix the oil with a wee bit of bearing grease to apply to the parts that like to snuggle up together. Sometimes I might even apply the same mixture to the outside of the gun and wipe it down thoroughly.
I have done this on various types of guns including wheel guns, glocks, sig P series, 1911s, lever guns, bolt guns, and even ARs.
I shoot in this horrible Tennessee summer, I shoot in very cold weather, I hunt all winter, and I have never once had any kind of failures at all.
But, I didn’t with Remoil either.

I like some kind of spray lube, on occasions, because I don't always take the pistols apart. It is just handier IMO. I perform deep cleanings a couple times a year as I do not shoot as much as I once did. Much too costly now. I do teach young people, from time to time, and furnish ammo for that so the ammo thing can really get out of hand if I am not careful.

Several have talked about Mobil 1. Thanks for your reply's, res308.

Edited to add; Recently had a 4some, dad and 3 kids, out to shoot for the first time. Have another young couple, and church lady who have expressed the desire to learn. Made it my goal, in my old age, to teach newbies.

I use both.  Rem Oil for on the spot lubing when needed at the range and quicker cleaning jobs, CLP for deeper cleans and when I know the gun is going to sit around for a bit.  There's a clear viscosity difference in them, so they aren't interchangeable.  Both good products.

Ha ha ha around here it's the old guys who talk about Mobil 1 and the know-it-alls who claim it's Fudd lore.  I've used it (5w-30 I think) on pistols and had good luck.  Remoil has always seemed kinda thin, so I use what Remoil I have as a surface treatment to prevent rust.  I clean with Hoppes 9 (old school but it is good stuff) and lube with (lately) Lucas something-or-nother gun oil.

I use Militec-1 and have had great results

That is good stuff. I have some of that here too.

My understanding with Remoil is it dries and leaves a light graphite film on moving parts.  The graphite is very slick. I use it for about 10 years, years back, with no problems, but did remember some chatter about it not being good for guns.

When teaching newbies, I always want the pistols and revolvers to run so I give them a little squirt, the day prior, before going out to the range.  That is my purpose for the dryer Remoil. CLP always runs out and I need to wipe them down and it still gets on their hands as they fire. Could use grease but would need to break the pistols down. I don't do deep cleanings every time I take them to the range.

I use RemOil but I am not fond of it at all. It gets gummy over time. I prefer Break Free CLP and will use Hoppe's solvent when needed. I used to use a dry spray that I really liked but haven't seen it on the market in years. May have been a Remington product I do not recall.

Used RemOil many years, then tried Break Free CLP, then Weapon Shield, then found the one, at least for me anyway. Currently using StrikeHold. Really like the StrikeHold for quick service and detail cleaning. Since I'm on a farm, there are so many uses for the StrikeHold that I just won't bore anyone. It just works and leaves a dry lubricating protectant on surfaces. Spray, wipe and walk pop pop.

I use RemOil on my reels, half a drop is good on the pawl for a few days. Never noticed it getting gummy or a graphite film.

I use Seal 1 SP-8. It doesn't run, I haven't noticed it get gummy. I use it for all my firearms, and it does wonders. My friend uses hoppes, and has had the bolt polished on his Mosin but it will still get stiff after 30 rds, we started using the Sp-8, it'll make it through a whole range day now without getting stiff.

I did check and Remington DriLube is still available from several online sources. WallyWorld doesn't have it in store any longer at least here. I liked it for my EDC because it didn't attract dust like a wet oil does. It never got gummy sitting either. Guess I'll have to add it to my next amazon order.
