Add me to that list. Sometimes it just isnt worth our breath to try and educate folks.

If an employee claims that it is policy then it pretty much is until someone else overrules them, most days I just dont have the time for all of that.

If I am looking for a holster or any accessory for a gun I will carry it in a case or rug and have something else as a CC that day.

Not to get off topic too far, but the other day when I was in Academy Sports buying that P238...their policy when selling a firearm is to escort you out the door with it. So someone from upfront was called to come get the cased firearm and walk me to the front register. Then I could not even carry the gun from the register to the door. The person waited until it was rang up and then walked me out the door before handing the gun to me. I was laughing inside the entire time and several times I almost made a comment, but decided just to keep my mouth shut...The hilarious irony being that on my hip, under my coat was a loaded Glock .40...but I could not be trusted to carry this unloaded, new, .380 out of the door..hahahahahaha.

Equally as Ironic was that I could have loaded it , in the parking lot, and walked right back in the store with it...What exactly are they trying to prevent with this policy???

That is funny. The store I was going to would not let you carry a new gun from the gun counter to the checkout desk, they had to take it for you and hand it to the clerk, but at least then you could carry it out the door yourself.

i would have to agree that he was ignorant of their policy and was just making it up. the only signs ive seen (gander mtn. and academy) state that you must have your firearm unloaded and check it in at customer service, but that doesnt apply to HCP holders who are legally carrying a firearm.

I know this is a bit off topic but I have a good friend that refuses to carry one in the pipe. He does not feel safe with his glock loaded....... I am with you guys I do not see the point of having a weapon on you unless it's ready to rock and roll.

An employee telling customers this is not only wrong but is also dangerous. Can you imagine if customers with HCP's began pulling their guns out to clear them before entering. Or being told to do so after entering the store. It is just an accident waiting to happen. Not to mention the complaints the store would probably receive from the other customers as someone clears their gun. I can also guarantee LE would be called as a customer clears a weapon.

This is so wrong. Do you remember the associates name by chance? Either way I will speak with the sporting goods supervisor so he can let all the employees know. If he isn;t very receptive I will call corporate and let them know where my moeny isn't going to be spent.

I went to Dick's to get my son a rifle and they carried the gun out the front door for me. I too had a loaded weapon on my hip.

I have thought EXACTLY the same thing with couple of guns I bought there. Bought a 10/22 for my son a and was escorted to the door by a pimple faced kid, all while my .45 was holstered and in condition 1 under my jacket.

most box stores do this, its just a safety precaution(in their minds). obviously you could just load it in the parking lot and come right back in, so it is an kind of silly exercise but i'm sure its corporate lawyers making the rules. plus it ensures the cashiers and front staff that you did indeed legally pay for the firearm and did not steal it!

It amazes me too how many people freak at the hammer on a 1911, it's usually the same ones that ask why I keep a chambered round in my carry weapon..

Just clarifying isn't going to do anything. It is when people, like Kwik, take it to the extreme when companies do it as part of a knee jerk reaction.

Problem I have is the associate is telling people they can't do something they can. I also believe the associate is going to migrate to where he is telling people to clear their weapons. And when that happens there is going to be some bad things happen. maybe not a ND but others seeing a person pull a gun out.

I am just going to drop it but I think as time goes on this may be considered normal there.

People that are new to guns and don't really understand their operation and the operation of the safeties tend to do think like this. Until they are able to see it in action and see how it works it won't change.
