WalMart meeting Biden ?

Recommended Posts

When the White House requests an audience....you go, regardless of your political or financial leanings..

A worker or farmer or average Joe might get away with declining, but the cost for WM's refusal would be huge.

And considering they declined once, it is apparent they are being pressed.

The Chicago way - lean on WM and other retailers - nice little chain you got there.  Shame if something were to happen to it.  By the way, I really don't like to see you selling guns/ammo/magazines.  So, how are your taxes?  Are you EPA compliant?  Are you in compliance with OSHA regs?

 Etc. etc. ad nauseum.

Wallyworld is the largest employer in the U.S. If they were to shut all doors for a week and threaten to close down that would put the stock market in a free fall. I know that's a far fetched scenero but all I am saying is that Wallmart is a very powerful corperation, they could cause some trouble for the economy if they really wanted to, a big corp like Walmart can push alot of political buttons.

The reason is to show Walmart how they can increase revenue if Walmart supports a bill to make background checks a law for ALL gun transactions, ie the gunshow loophole. The premise being, if you can't get a gun at a gunshow you will go to Walmart to buyit. Edited by N2thebox

And, Wal-Mart is a nearly $700B company. A company that employs so many and has revenue of over half a trillion isn't scared of the gov't.

Wallyworld has a plan to video tape gun sales, make it so LEO can look at who is buying if a crime is done with the firearm they sold.

Gona keep there own records for later, if a gun was sold that was used in a crime, if the person the bought the gun came back to buy another gun they would turn them down, and then it is just a call to LEO to tell them.

Their way of getting on the good side to keep their FFL.

They've been video taping them for years. They have cameras everywhere and if you have been in a Walmart then they have you on tape.

I think Walmart will do whatever the BHO is asking especially if it adds money it their wallet. I'd venture to say that Walmart isn't a pro-gun company. They only sell guns and ammo because it makes them money, nothing more, nothing less. If they stop making money on guns, they will quit selling them. If they are given a option to keep selling guns and make even more money, they will be all for it.

I'd disagree with you. Wal-Mart makes its money from selling food, toilet paper and Tylenol- not from guns & ammunition. They'll keep these because customers do look to purchase them. Not because they make a lot of money on them.

Thank you for your recent inquiry. Walmart, like the rest of the country, has been engaged in a national dialogue about the responsible sale and regulation of firearms. We have had ongoing conversations with the Administration, Congress, Mayor Bloomberg’s office, sportsmen groups, suppliers and others to listen and share our thoughts and experiences.

Over the years we have been very purposeful about striking the right balance between serving hunters and sportsmen and ensuring that we sell firearms responsibly. In fact, we became a charter member of Mayor Bloomberg’s coalition against illegal guns and adopted the 10-point code established by the Responsible Firearms Retailer Partnership that goes beyond what the law requires. We have also spoken to the Vice President’s office to share our perspective.

We take this issue very seriously and are committed staying engaged in this discussion as the Administration and Congress work toward a consensus on the right path forward.

Sincerely,

Walmart Customer Care

And there we go.  The reason they initially declined  - already up Bloomberg's butt.

and my reply to them

Perhaps Corporate does not know this, but the firearms community is disgusted by Mr. Bloomberg's anti-2nd Amendment antics. Walmart's association with blatantly anti-gun organizations does not please me at all.

I will be watching Walmart's position very closely. I must say, that Walmart's reply *has not* assuaged my concerns.

A very concerned customer,

The only reason I go to Walmart is ammo. I have never purchased a gun from them and would prefer to do my grocery shopping at Kroger. If they jump on board with the VP I will never go in Walmart again.

Edit: I think I'll write them and let them know how I feel. Edited by BrasilNuts

I suspect they will continue to sell rifles.

But, if they support the mag ban, or outlawing/regulating person-person sales, I am done with them.

Write them and tell them. I know I did.

I did respond again.

I wonder what kind of break Walmart will get on obamacare if they stop selling guns/ ammo and support the anti-2a movement. Not only does obamacare give them power over individuals, it is a powerful tool in their box of corporate persuasion. Edited by Batman

All said and done, WallyWorld is still the best bet for quality practice ammo. I buy WWB FMJ ammo in the big boxes in both .38 Spcl and .40S&W. I couldn't afford to buy it at my gun shop, priced out of sight. The mail order places are always out of stock. For many of us in rural TN, WALMART is our main source of ammo.

Are you saying walmart doesn't make money from guns and ammo? I don't have access to their leger books but I'd be willing to bet any amount of money they do.

I'd also bet that if it ever got to the point there were no money to be made in selling guns and ammo, they'd stop selling them.

They don't sell guns because because of any strong 2nd amendment values, they sell them because there is money in it.

Walmart doesn't make very much money on any single item they sell. They just sell so much of it that it all adds up.

Every Wal-Mart store sells toilet paper. Every store sells Tylenol. Every store sells dog food. Every store sells laundry detergent. Not all stores sell guns. If they were such money makers don't you think Wal-Mart would have them in every store? Edited by EB-SF
