HB 0995/SB 1171 Parks

Recommended Posts

It looks like a decent bill that will benefit a lot of people.  The school hang up deal is silly and so was the hang up on the statehouse carry, but the revised bill will help folks protect themselves.  I would rather this bill pass than for it to be killed over the statehouse carry issue.

This is a perfect example of politics and piecemeal legislation. A well-written initial carry law would have solved all of these issues. Tennessee is certainly no pioneer or innovator in this issue. Example after example have proven that TN HCP holders are some of the most vetted and law-abiding citizens but yet are demonized at every turn. Hopefully some of our newly elected officials will figure this out, but I am sure it will take a lot more time, even if they can deal with the 'in-house' political pressures.

Now on House floor Message calendar for tomorrow morning, 4/16.  Also., links to the conference committee reports are up:

Majority report is here.

Minority report is here  (laughable).

The wording regarding "known or should have known" is still cumbersome and ill-conceived...par for this bunch of stumble-bums.  They could not write themselves out of a wet paper bag.

Does not look like they will get to 0995 today, they will run out of time debating the car insurance bill.

If the House does not simply go into recess if they pass it in the first place, instead of adjourning, it is dead anyway.  If they recessed instead of sine die, they could reconvene and override, otherwise is is simply a wink and a nod to the governor and a finger in the eye of the People as he vetoes and they all get together for a drink and a laugh as they draw plans to build the Museam...

it's almost 3 eastern did they ever get to the bill?

No, and most likely they will not.  Have to listen to Sargent lie and Fitzhugh prattle.  They have to get through appropriations, and everyone, us included knows what is going to happen (Sargent and Haslam get their way), but they have to talk long enough to postpone 0995.

Tnreport.com shows on their twitter page a statement that Ramsey wants the Senate to take the day off on Monday to allow the House to catch up.  Is the House going to keep going until they finish what is on the schedule??????  I thought today was their last day of business.

At 4:35 ET, the website shows that the conference report was adopted by the House.  I would assume (always dangerous when talking about the Gen Assy) it means the majority report.  I got back just in time for the house to recess until Monday at 3pm CT.

Well, that took about 17 forevers...and yes, they passed the Majority Report of the Conference Committee, squirt gun gone, carry at legislature gone, but no more City/County opt out.  Now, on to Senate.
