Volvo's self-parking function works great!

The point was for the sensors to pick him up and stop the car before it hit him.  He wasnt being dumb, the hardware clearly needs improving or it was not working as it should. Many american cars have sensors now days that apply the breaks when you are about to hit something.

I know that it's not funny but I'll admit that I laughed outloud at that one.....

The heck it isn't!

That's funny as hell! I don't care how bad that guy took a hit, if you're stupid enough to stand there.......

Natural Selection, Gods finest law.

Yep, what Caster said.

Sensors or not, knowingly and voluntarily standing still while a projectile that weighs more or less a ton heads right for you and depending on said projectile to stop of its own volition is dumb - especially when there is even the slightest chance that those sensors could fail (which obviously they could because they didi.)  At some point surely a person who is not having a 'duh' moment would think to themselves, "You know, I don't think the darned thing is gonna stop," and get the heck out of the way.

True enough, but things always happen when we least expect them. Without risk, there is no reward. And plus, a few injuries is a path way to progress.

FYI, I think self breaking and parking to an extent is dumb.  Specially with all those blind spot cameras and sensors. All we are doing is creating a generation of worse drivers.

As a mechanic I just love sensors. The more sensors the more money I have in the bank. Keep them sensors coming.

This was 100% human error. The safety feature they are trying to demonstrate is the pedestrian detection system. The bad part was the vehicle in the video wasn't equipped with it. So the guy was basically standing in front of what he thought was an unloaded gun. Some Volvo cars do have "park assist" but that video didn't have anything to do with parking. I've used the park assist feature (for parallel parking) and the collision avoidance system multiple times with zero failures. Edited by Howler

Don't know about the lazy part, but I know a lot of people that do not possess the ability to park to begin with.

Exactly. There was no "auto park" involved. Maybe auto brake or pedestrian detection which obviously didn't work either, if so equipped.
