  1. Ooh, it's the free market. An item is worth what someone will pay for it. Supply and demand in action. Did I cover them all? Screw CTD.

  2. It's not "a load of dung." All the UN has to do is post signs that declare the area a War Free Zone and everything will be fine.

  3. We've had more than enough in my opinion. As I've said many times I'm over this crap. And I don't care if it's "whining", I'm calling BS when I see it. We're too much a persecuted community already to be screwing each other. I'm as sick of seeing the jacked up prices as I am of being given economics reminders of the "free market".

  4.   Sounds like you left some meat on the bone.  I've got about 600 rounds of .22LR and I don't even have a .22 anymore.  I've been hanging on to it just for spite.  :0)

  5. Freedom goes both ways. Everyone has the freedom to price their items as they see fit. Everyone has the freedom to whine about the prices. And you have the freedom to whine about the whiners.

  8. If you think someone is gouging then just shut your dam mouth. Post something negative in someone's ad and you will be punished. If you have nothing positive to say the shut your mouth. What is going to happen is the classifieds are going to go back to no one allowing to ask questions or leave comments. And that will impact everyone who wants to sell. As much as I do not like it either we cannot force anyone to sell something for less than they want to. Just like the seller can't force a buyer to spend more. I suspect there are going to be a lot of people gone by Monday.

  9.   A valid point. What's more, I think that the best way to answer a sale post offering overpriced merchandise is to answer it with deafening silence. If I think something is priced stupid, ignoring it is the best way to get the point across. When an ad is posted for 3 days with tons of views but NO responses, the seller gets the idea pretty quickly. Ads that insult my intelligence aren't even worthy of a response in the first place.

  10. I understand your point, and it does have merit, but when people snatch up every box from Walmart every time a truck comes in (while other people have to work) at normal prices and then jacks the price 3 or 4 times just ain't right in my book of "do unto others". And it never will.

  12. Gangbangers will gladly pay that much. Gotta have something for the "glock-glock".   Cheaper Than D!ck, --whatever. Oh, wait, and now Glen Beck endorses them too... wonder how much that cost them? Maybe they're paying him in .22LR bricks?? No thanks. Have a nice life, CTD. You won't ever have to worry about filling an order for me ever again. Ever.   Wow. CTD pi$$es me off so much that even my non-sequitur rant has non-sequiturs.

  16. The problem is the costs far exceed his salary. There is no way he is paying for the local and federal law enforcement to secure a vacation spot plus the cost of the secret service out of his own personal bank account. I know how much it costs to fuel a jet plus the related operating expenses. I know he has become a wealthy man since taking office, but I guarantee these related expenditures are not paid for from his personal funds.

  17. Personally, the problem i have with it is how the "impartial" mass media slaughtered Bush every time he vacationed, yet not a peep otta them when Obama or his family, or all of them go rambling around the world. They'll even go a day or two apart, doubling the cost of travel. Yet praise will come gushing out of the media fountain owned by Obama.

  18. I’m sure our AEGIS class ships are in the area and prepared to knock down whatever NK launches.   The threat of nuclear war is ridiculous. They may well try to launch a nuke, but we don’t need nukes to neutralize NK; and won’t use them.   The problem (and loss of American lives) will come if there is hand wringing on the part of Obama in the event of an act of war.   Have our bombers deliver a few MOAB’s to NK’s top leaders; and it’s over.  You would think after Korea, Vietnam, and Afghanistan our leaders would learn.  Use the technology we have developed and end these threats with extreme prejudice.

Blue could see the dump box, Childs states that it was gone.   Sgt. Blue asked Childs if he had already moved it out of the field and Childs replied that is it was just gone, that the force of the explosion had scattered pieces over a large area."   I mean, it's just GONE, man! :)   - OS

  20. This is it..take it or no..I took banjo lessons one time.  the instructor said, time in practice equals quality sound out.  There is no substitute for practice. I brushed it off. Then I learned my lesson.  Let me give you an example.  I was taking banjo lessons.  I could play the guitar, but wanted the banjo bad.  I practiced about 1 to 2 hours 4 or 5 times a week after work (I was in my early 30's).  The teacher had a get together on friday nights for students. I went one night but only played the guitar because I was comfortable with it in bluegrass and knew a lot of songs, not so with the banjo.  I had been taking banjo lessons for 6 months.  This 17 year old kid sat in the back and picked around on his banjo.  He wouldn't play loud and I had trouble hearing him.  During a break, when everyone else was outside, the instructor told me to come play a few with this kid.....This kid tore it up!!!! My jaw hit the floor. We played about 8 or 9 songs......He had been playing 4 months to my 6 months banjo wise.  But, he practiced a minimum of 4 hours a day, 7 days a week. He practiced more each week than I did on 3 weeks. Lesson is....there is NO substitute for practice. According to Earl Scruggs, it takes 1000 SUCCESSFUL practice licks to get a banjo lick down pat muscle memory wise.  Same for a guitar. We often hear the pro's play licks that are awesome.  Pink Floyd "Comfortably Numb"  or Lynyrd Skynyd "Free Bird"....they have played those songs thousands of times. They don't even have to think anymore while playing them.....

  23. I just saw these in recoil magazine and looked them up. They are made by faxon firearms and they are basically a completely redesigned upper that will use any AR lower. It has a long stroke ak-like piston and comes chambered in 5.56 or .300 blk. Price is $1200 with one barrel or $1400 with 2 and barrels are for sale indivdually. Barrel swap takes 6 screws. I'm gonna start saving and invest in one I do believe. Though I'd like to see some more range reports first. I got the PRO-40 in 07', the BDM in January and the Practical last month... The Hi-Power's still my favorite, now I just need to find a BDA and a BDAO...

  27. A DEA Agent stopped at a ranch in Texas and talked to an old rancher. He told the rancher, "I need to inspect your ranch for illegally grown drugs." The rancher... said, "okay, but don't go into that field over there...", as he pointed out the location. The DEA Agent verbally exploded and said, "look mister, I have the authority of the federal government with me!" Reaching into his rear back pocket, the arrogant officer removed his badge and proudly displayed it to the rancher. "See this badge?! This badge means I can go wherever I want... On any land! No questions asked, no answers given! Do you understand old man?!" The rancher kindly nodded, apologized, and went about his chores. Moments later the rancher heard loud screams, he looked up and saw the DEA agent running for his life, being chased by the ranchers big Santa Gertrudis Bull...... With every step the bull was gaining ground on the officer, and it was likely that he'd sure enough get gored before he reached safety. The officer was clearly terrified. The old rancher threw down his tools, ran as fast as he could to the fence, and yelled at the top of his lungs......       "YOUR BADGE! SHOW HIM YOUR BADGE!"

  28. On a lighter note, I was at sportsmans warehouse yesterday and they had quite a few boxes of ammo at the service desk.....STILL. They get ammo in on Sundays or Mondays. I did spot around 15 or more boxes of 45 100 rnd target ammo. winchester it was, I believe. I've got plenty for as little as my job allows me to shoot. But to me this was a very positive sign there is some leveling off, or saturation occuring. So, I hope soon all the gougers will be eating their ammo for supper.

  34. There is some incredible software called the "Amazing Slow Downer." It's $40, and it will be one of the best investments you can make. You can load any mp3 you have into it, and you can make the track as slow as you want, and it does not alter the pitch. (It has that function, too, if you have to learn it in a different key.) I bought it when I had to learn a complicated steel guitar part on a John Michael Montgomery record for an Opry performance. Huge help.   http://amazing-slow-downer.en.softonic.com/

He didn't give a flip what anyone else thought. I sort of admire him for that. I look forward to being the age where your clothes no longer need to match.

  37. As to Rick dying in the hospital, that's an interesting theory, but I think it's more along the lines of bending reality for the sake of drama. The plant was dead, everything covered in dust etc for effect.   Also, many of those machines have battery backups built-in so they will keep working when the patient is being moved etc, so with movie logic they could have kept him alive for a longer period of time.

  41. Eh? That's exactly what "the left" wants, they want our side to continue to canibalize ourselves, while they circle their wagons, dig in & fully support each other no matter what. The only thing Palin is guilty of is being mocked on SNL ... We really need to start hanging together, instead of constantly nit-picking ourselves into political obscurity.

  46. A free market capitalist society works by selling high and buying low. Just because the commodity of the day happens to be something we love dearly doesn't give any of us just cause to defame those who .....(wait for it, the word of the day) CAPITALIZE on a ripe market. Who would be complaining right now if the price of Cabbage Patch dolls had quadrupled over night? Who was griping when gold spiked so fast a while back? You might not like it, I certainly don't, but it's not a fair assessment to say there ever has been a 'problem'. There is not and hasn't been a problem for the prepared person. Chance favors the prepared mind and the venture capitalists take big chances in hopes of big returns. Anyone who doesn't support this type of market, doesn't truly support the foundation of this country. We don't have to like it to admit and accept the fact that it's fair and those engaged in it are doing NOTHING wrong.

  47. Just a heads up, you have to coat the entire match in wax for it to be water resistant, not just the head of the match, otherwise the water will soak through the wood & into the match head. But yea Bic lighters, matches, magnifying glass, flint/steel, two sticks, whatever you have handy make sure to have duplicates or multiples & make sure to practice starting fires under less than ideal conditions just so you get the learning curve out of the way before it actually becomes "life or death" so to speak.

  48. As others have said, I can carry a cane in places where I can't carry a gun, knife or even pepper spray. I'm 41 and could give a damn if people think I am 'old enough' to have a walking stick or not. I like them, sort of collect them, have made a few and will carry one if I please as long as it is legal. Truth is, I have an old 'drinking injury' that happened in my early 20s (too many Long Island teas coupled with a rainy night, linoleum covered stairs and shoes with poor traction = taking the 'express way' down the stairs) which results in one knee giving me trouble from time to time so there are times when I really do need the cane. A couple of years ago I went on a cruise to the New England states and Canada. Went to Bar Harbor, Maine. Went to Boston, Mass. Went to a couple of destinations in Canada. The cruise departed from NYC. A gun or even a knife would have been a no go. Pepper spray would probably have been out, too. No one even blinked at the cane I carried with me on and off the ship at each and every stop. I can carry a cane at work where carrying firearms is illegal per state law (I work on a satellite campus of a small, private college.) Even carrying a knife on 'school' grounds is a bit of a 'gray area' from what I can find. Further, in the absence of extensive training, I really don't believe that a knife would be a very effective defensive tool. A cane gives greater range and would seem to require a little less precision. I have an HCP and carry a firearm wherever I legally can. Despite my doubts as to their usefulness for SD, I often carry a couple of knives. I am not suggesting a cane as an alternative to a firearm when a firearm can be carried or legally deployed. I am simply thinking it might be something useful in circumstances where a firearm is not an option. Of course, when I speak of 'canes' or 'walking sticks' I am not talking about some of the crap that drug stores, etc. sell. I am also not talking about a thin, reedy 'opera cane'. I am talking about canes with some heft and strength to them. For example, I made all three of these (turned the shafts and - in the case of the derby style - carved the handle by hand.) I believe that being struck with any one of the three would be very nearly comparable to getting struck with a wooden baseball bat. This is the one I have with me, today. I used a small hame knob for the handle and turned a knob onto the bottom of the shaft to help provide a bit of balance. For this one, I used a length of twisted dogwood (which I harvested, myself) as the shaft. It was too thick along its entire length to use as it was so I turned both ends to thin them down a bit while leaving the middle more or less alone. I used a larger hame knob for the handle of this one: When planning for the aforementioned cruise, I wasn't sure how well the metal knob handles would go over so I made a cane with a wooden handle. I carved the handle - a variation on the derby style - out of a piece of cherry and turned the shaft. I honestly can't remember if the shaft is oak or ash (ash is the wood generally used for regulation baseball bats) but it is plenty hard either way. Unfortunately, I have since realized that the handle had a weak spot so I will be replacing it with something else. This is the one that didn't even draw a second glance when it accompanied me not only getting on and off a cruise ship but also when walking all over areas of this country and Canada where carrying a firearm - and in some cases even a knife - would have been against the law. I would like to make a few more but no longer have quite as easy access to the lathe I used to make these.
