  1. While it probably won’t stop a person from getting a gun if they really want one, it might delay them. That can sometimes make a difference. There’s is no logical reason to oppose this. Ideological yes, logical no..

  3. I believe police officers should not be held to a higher standard. They are human so they will err and when they do apply the law in the same way it would be applied to any other citizen. Police officers are citizens first and as such should be required to follow ALL the laws other citizens must follow. When they are not then that creates a segment of society that is exempt from following the law making them a protected class, above their fellow citizens, which is wrong. Laws are rarely applied equally when a police office is the one breaking those laws.

  4. The background check system costs ~500 million per year, adding about $100 per firearm on average. In 2009, one of the last years we have stats for, ~6 million background checks were performed. The FBI denied a little over 72,000 of those background checks, and referred most of them to the ATF, where the vast majority of them are deemed to be false positives. In the end the ATF found 62 cases that they thought were criminal violations, and the vast majority of those weren't good enough for the DOJ to prosecute. So we have a system that costs lots of money, where 98.8% of purchases go through with no problem, of the remain purchases only 4700 are investigated the rest are false positives. And then when those 4,700 are looked at only 62 meet the criminal statues to be prosecuted under federal law. 62 out of 6+ million background checks! 99.99+% of purchases aren't criminal, yet we have to waste 500 million a year on the background check system, and all of the expense complying with it. What other right protected in the Bill of Rights can the government take away from us? Require us to ask for permission every time we want to make a purchase? None! And yes, I see no reason to keep the NFA at all, rifles aren't be used to commit crimes, if we repealed the NFA tomorrow, machine guns wouldn't be used to commit crimes in any great number. There were ~11,000 people killed by firearms in 2010, the vast majority with a pistol. Less than 2% (way less) were killed in a mass shooting... ~12% killed by police officers (somewhere between 1100 and 1500 per year)... These are all sad numbers but are footnotes to the real problem.... The failed war on drugs, the VAST majority of gun violence in this country is drug related, make drugs legal, and allow the market to set their price, and the rate of crime including gun violence would drop drastically. But with all of that said, crime is down to 1950's levels even without getting rid of the war on drugs... even with all these crazy mass shootings. Almost half of what it was in 1992... Starting in 1992 shall issue gun permits started to become the law of the land, and access to carry firearms by law abiding citizens increased, crime has decreased. Most mass shootings take place in gun free zones, and the vast majority of mass shootings are stopped by a 'good guy' with a gun. We should be making it easier for 'good guys' those law abiding citizens to have access at all times to firearms, not figure out more ways to waste tax payer money on programs that don't stop crime, only make us 'feel good' that we're doing something to stop it.

  5. The Texas church shooter had a disqualifying event that would have prevented him from legally purchasing a firearm but he Air Force did not report it

  6. The NRA should take a zero tolerance policy of new gun laws, and should be working to repeal as many of these silly laws as possible... instead they're providing cover for Republicans to vote to waste more money on gun laws that only impact law abiding citizens. And remember how we got the Hughes Amendment? A late night voice vote adding the machine gun ban to the FOPA of 1986, which the NRA allowed to go through.

  7. The background check system is a complete waste of money and time. The people causing these mass shootings are going to: 1. Pass the background check anyhow. 2. Commit another serious crime to gain access to firearms. All the background check system does is waste the time and money of otherwise law abiding citizens... It's not fixable, so why throw good money after bad on a 'feel' good system?

  8. Please explain how this is negotiating rights away. This is nothing more than feel good legislation, saying that they (Republicans) are compromising on gun control, when in reality it is just telling the ones responsible for reporting that they need to do what they are supposed to be doing anyways. I see no reason at all to oppose this, it changes nothing.

  10. My local gun shop before I moved had a good setup. Their entrance was up a few steps so a car could not be used to smash in. They had steel bars on the windows and steel doors that had cross bar locks on the inside. Several area shops with solid glass protection were robbed up their also. Two of them went out of business after the robbery because they couldn't afford the insurance after a break in. A gun shop of any size could not possibly lock everything in safes every night. The number of safes and the time to open and close everyday would be prohibitive.

  11. The one in Spencer is near Fall Creek Falls. It is just opening and has shotgun and I think 50/100 yard ranges are opening this weekend. Last info I saw was that the 600 through 1000 yard ranges will be spring 2018. They are having a grand opening this weekend. https://www.deadzeroshooting.com/grand-opening/

  12. While true, the chances are 8 times more likely that you'll be killed by a police officer than a terrorist. https://www.cato.org/blog/youre-eight-times-more-likely-be-killed-police-officer-terrorist The fact is police officers are violating TN law daily without having a specific reasonable belief that a permit holder needs to be disarmed for their protection. And they get away with it because nobody will hold them accountable. You and I are expected to follow the law to the letter, and if we violate the law would likely face criminal sanctions. Shouldn't police officer be held to a higher standard of conduct than the citizens they are sworn to protect?

  13. And those examples are reasons why an officer should have his gun drawn. A traffic stop for a traffic violation is not a reason to have a gun drawn, especially before making contact yet we have both seen it hundreds of times.

  14. And they should have to follow the same laws we do. If I can’t point a loaded gun at a stranger then an officer should not be able to either, without justification. And “I’m scared” isn’t justification unless I can use the same reason.

  15. No. Not for that brand or from that seller. SGAmmo never does free shipping but they’re one of the best outfits to buy from.

  16. I know that my situation was different the gun stores but back when I operated my auto repair center back years ago. They broke into my shop 4 times in 2 months. 1st time they got some high end tools and second time they got some high end testing equipment. I was lucky enough to have the testing equipment located in a pawn shop by police and returned to me. 3rd time this got that same equipment plus a few other pieces of equipment. All the tool boxes where chained to the walls and locked up so they weren't able to get any hand tools but I got tired of getting broke into and I had a few metro police officers that raded with me and I got one of them that wanted to make a few extra bucks to baby sit my shop a couple nights a week and he would sit up in a hill in a parking lot watching the shop. Well the 4th night he was there they showed up and he called for back up and he would down with a shotgun and when back up arrived he already had the 3 bad guys sitting on their hands in the parking lot of my shop. After that night I posted a sign that read Off Duty Police officer is security 3 nights a week, You pick the nights!! Never got broken into again. Ended up costing me $350.00 bucks paying him but ended my problems.

  17. The utility and ubiquity of the Glock 19 and Glock 17 platform are undeniable. Arguing against them is like arguing that the AK-47 isn't a benchmark for the same qualities in the carbine platform. But, I'm telling you, the M&P 9mm platform is better in just about every way. All it lacks is the widespread presence that the Glock enjoys due to a two-decade head start. Had the M&P been introduced at the same time as the Glock 17, we might be having a completely different conversation right now.
