  2. It took the full force of the US military and a coalition of nations 10 years to put down an insurgency in Iraq which is a country the size of Texas...and they still were not completely successful. There are an estimated 100 MILLION gun owners in the US. If just 3% of them say "Hell No" then this country ceases to exist as it now stands. And the number may well be low because people often lie to pollsters about gun ownership. THINK about that. Think about what it would take to bring a 3 million person guerrilla force under control if the simply do not want to be controlled? Think about what it means if just a tiny militant fringe of that 3% decides that taking the head off the snake (or the heads off the Hydra) is the right thing to do...... And since this "Army" does not wear uniforms and is not "connected" by structure it will give whole new meaning to "sleeper cells". Just a hard core 1% of the 3% would be 30,000 "fanatics". We didn't kill that many insurgents in Iraq between 2003 and 2011.... I hate to sound like an alarmist but whichever way the next election goes half the country will feel they have been disenfranchised. If the liberal/ socialist /communist side wins and tries to implement (force feed) the same failed policies that made the 20th century genocides possible then you will likely see a percentage of people who feel their leaders not only do not respect them but are declaring war on them cease to accept that government as legitimate. What happens when those people declare war back and have a very different rules of engagement than what we are used to seeing? Beto and the others really need to re think this.... what they think they want is not what they will get. There is a reason Lincoln did not want to "punish" the South because he knew the country would be looking at a 100 year guerrilla war as best case scenario.

  4. I had one when I was in 'Nam. It was stolen along with all my other valuables, after I was wounded, and in the aid station. The SOB's stole $175 I had saved up for R&R, my wallet, watch. Left my wedding ring. Didn't realize this until I was in the Army hospital in Tokyo. That said, Zippos' are tough, hard to wear one out. Would be interesting to know the story behind this one.

  5. For encouraging me to build another AR-15 that I don't need... just because I can! Picked up a stripped lower to start another build today.

  7. I received an update email so it prompted me to update here. Brownell's sent out notice they are shutting down pre-orders due to demand and their current backorder volume. No expected dates unfortunately. As much as I avoid being a beta tester, seems for the price and more faith in Springfield than Sig, its a no lose proposition if I'm not fond of it. I ordered one last week from Brownell's with 10% off, no tax and free shipping. After the 5% cashback from gear-obsession, $453 before transfer fees for the OSP version. I was thinking of the new P365 SAS as well. Too hard to justify $130 more for a ported gun to deal with the potential or having to work with customer service hassles. May end up with one at some point after they've been out for a while.

  9. I Just finished reading a book written and published in 2019, by Robert A Waters, and his son Sim Waters. It is a story of 23 self defense cases, over the time period of 2005 to 2016. The reason given for it not being later than 2016 is it takes several months/years to get the full and complete story about criminal cases and do the research on them. All of these cases were where the citizen used a gun to successfully defend his life with a satisfactory ending. What amazes me about everyone of these cases is how extreme these fights are to be able to survive the encounter. I mean when one is in a fight for your life, one usually starts behind the curve and has to react to aggression immediately. In most of these cases, there was a time lapse, on the victims part, to get into a defensive mindset, and come to the conclusion, hey! I need to be fighting for my life here. It appears to me that that one fact gets these 23 people into a life death struggle very fast. In fairness to the book, one account was a concealed carrier coming up on a traffic stop gone really bad. Unlike the numerous people watching the beat down, this guy acted. That citizen never hesitated to do his best to stop the perp from beating the young officer to death with his hands. The downed officer begged the citizen to end the fight. He was successful, but it took 3 shots from a 40 caliber handgun before the perp relented, and later passed. They all were not like the movies, guys. It was a good read and very informative about the 23 crime stories of survival with firearms.

  10. Pretty cool, I too would like to know the story behind the lighter. I often think about all those men that died or were injured for life in that far away land that I don't think we had a dog in that hunt. I was planning on an Air Force career, but my heart wasn't in that police action and I had a high draft number. But I do salute all those that went either volunteer or draft. Thank you guys and gals for your service to this Great country!!
