Adding that one expensive firearm to the collection...

I am currently working just outside the path of totality, so hopefully a short drive will cover it for me. I won't make definitive plans until much closer to the date, as noted above weather can have significant impact on viewing conditions. If necessary, I'll fly to wherever optimal viewing conditions can be found ...

The size of the hailstone created has more to do with the time spent in the cloud than the size of the original droplet. In more severe storms the stone can get pulled up repeatedly, each time forming a new layer of ice, however most stones pick up their layers through the process of accretion, either by contact with super-cooled droplets which have not yet turned solid, passing through layers of water vapor, or even by combining with smaller stones already formed. In each case, time spent in the freezing layers determines the size of the final hailstone ...

My utilities, phone, and whatever else I could get on it have been drafted since way before there were e-checks, internet, or anything remotely similar. It's kind of a set and forget thing, the bills get paid on time, I don't have to screw with them, no fees get charged, everybody's happy ...

I can't help you with a quote, as my experience in this is decades old and I'm not up on current pricing. What I can tell you is to avoid any estimates on price per square foot, as it's one of the most useless methods for estimating construction costs, due to the vast differences in what people consider a "typical" home. Get in touch with some builders who are active in the area, they are much better equipped to give some ballpark estimates if you can provide some minimal expectations as to what you are interested in ...

Looked like he was on the verge of a stall several times. Good thing his new ultralight was mechanically and structurally sound. He's very lucky that his stupidity didn't cause him to become a statistic ...

That shipment was most of 2 containers that Bob Bowman of Florida manged to get out of Ukraine a while back. The uproar there has pretty much shut down all shipments of 7.62x54r out of that country for the foreseeable future. SG probably had that ad up by mistake, a newer version of the ad had it for about $280 per crate, the old one was still visible to members when they posted the ammo. Both the ammo and the ad were gone very quickly, that shipment was the first to the US in over 2 years, none since. Unless something changes radically in the world, those prices are most likely gone for good. A lot of the old Comm-bloc countries sold out of this ammo several years ago, it's not available out of Russia since the Clinton years, anything that comes out of Ukraine will wind up in the middle east as they are paying 70 cents and up per round for it. There are a few other places that still have some, but bad logistics, political concerns, and supply and demand pretty much preclude the old prices being seen again. -

As long as you're using them for solvent traps, i.e. to catch waste fluids and debris when cleaning, you are good to go. Fire a round through them, different story ...

It was a good episode, but I thought they gave some plot points away throughout the show. Saw Sasha's ploy coming, as well as the Benedict Arnold move by the Dumpster Divers, still overall a good way to wind up the season.

Tear it up, throw it away. Do the same with the followup letters, including those from the collection agency they sell the ticket to. They give up after a while.

Have him get in contact with somebody who does that routinely, like Simpsons, et. al. as quoted above.

I agree that the shipping cost in the post I quoted above does sound unrealistically expensive, but from what I've gathered throughout the years, the other prices are typical, again depending on exactly where you are importing from. As for the dealers who bring them in by the thousands, they are normally already set up to do these types of importation by virtue of being bonded importers, with the right type of FFL license as well as ATF and customs credentials.

Quoted from a similar thread on gunboards.com recently: " It's more than that Martin. It's whatever the cost of export permit. Shipping to and within the US, broker fees, excise tax and any other crating fees. I am at the start of this for myself for a gun from Sweden. My experience thus far: Export permit $86 Aluminum case $50 Shipping to US. $350 Broker fee - currently unknown Excise tax 3% total retail value of gun ~$25 shipping to Simpsons from port of entry (Chicago) $50 Import paperwork $200 for 1-5 firearms. Shipping to my location $50 Background check at local FFL $20 "

You are going to need the services of dealer's who import arms as a specific part of their business. They will handle the business end of it, including customs duties and overseas contacts for a specified price. Be aware, it's not just US customs and the ATF you will be dealing with, other nations have their own set of rules and regulations regarding exports, these can vary from place to place, and often include export duties as well. It can be done, but it's going to be a much more expensive and time consuming process than a routine transfer between FFL's.

Don't forget the concrete needed for the foundation. For a 24x40 slab, that will be another 9-10 yards. I always used 80 sq. ft for the amount of square footage that a yard would poor on a 4" slab, which allows for small differences in elevation and some waste. Figure about 21-22 yards to include a perimeter foundation of 1x2 ft. in addition to the slab. I always liked pouring on fill sand and gravel as a base, along with wire for reinforcement and plastic for a vapor barrier which will also figure into the totals. Admittedly I've been out of that line of work for many years, folks may have very different ideas about how slabs are poured these days. These estimates do not include anything for the cost of finishing, I have no idea what that runs now.
