  1. I have a lee round nose labeled as .309 but drops a little larger. Works low velocity though 30/30 no problem. Only snafu is that it is single cavity and takes forever to fill the bucket.
  2. I am more interested in that homemade lube that you have. I remember you talking about it last time we met, but didn't know if you had made the jump. Let me know and I may want to buy some from you.
  3. H&R Makes the better gun when looking at Rossi/nef/H&R
  4. They are fantastic guns. I am not sure why they aren't selling for more on the market. The fact that a ratty old mini 14 can sell for $550 and a 742 in 308 or 30/06 goes for $300 is one of life's mysteries.
  5. Smelted about 200 pounds of lead today....Bullets picked up from the berm of my club. Yeah. I think I am gonna wait until it is cooler to cast them. I am pretty convinced now that sawdust is as good a flux as borax. I use them when smelting, but use candlewax when casting.
  6. Get GOOD ammo for the thing. First and foremost. Take it to an area where you can set up a pie plate. The farthest distance you can hit a 4" circle drawn on that plate on the first shot is your hunting distance. Most SKS guns shoot good enough. Heck...even a 4 or 5 moa gun would be just fine for hunting....despite what Lay-z-boy hunters will tell you.
  7. I have never seen a good condition T/C hawken sale for under $200...They are fine rifles. I personally wouldn't sell it if I were you
  8. All I know is that you don't see them for sale like you did in the 80's Wish I bought a lot of them when they were going for $150 - $200
  9. I L-O-V-E mine. It is a reloader's gun. If you don't reload you will not shoot it much because of the stupid cost of buying factory ammo. If you do reload you can load cheap. It packs quite the wallop, but I liken the recoil to a slug out of a 12 ga on heavy loads. I load lighter....405 grain bullet at 1400 or so fps is a sweet shooter....it can go up to almost 2000fps and really ring your bell. It is much more accurate than you would think. Mine touches 3 holes at 100 yards all day long 1 - 1.5" right out of the box. It reloads easy. Dirt cheap if you cast your bullets. There is a lot of case capacity so be safe if you are loading with 2400 or Unique. Reloader 7 is the best for hunting loads...I shoot 2400 almost exclusively. I really like the short barrel length of the guide gun. scope it with a 2-7 leupold and you have the perfect gun. The scout setup looks cool ( mine is set up that way) but in hindsight the standard scope location does just as well. If you were in Chattanooga I would let you shoot mine.
  10. I have a model 67 (the stainless version of the 15) and it is the most useful and fun shooting revolver I own. Very fine shooter. The K Frame is a superstar in my book as one of the finest guns ever made.
  11. Give it 5 or 10 years...and there will be not much choice but to reload this caliber....
  12. Just as a reminder/FYI for CRC members here in Chattanooga....we will be teaching a members casting class this Saturday (July 28th) I know there are quite a couple on the board here.
  13. That is an awesome idea on those handles....very crafty. You can go though a lot of lead quick when you are pouring 12ga slugs! I always wonder why they cost so much from the manufacturer....I have some 4 cavity ones that set me back almost $50 !?!?!?
  14. The He is right...it is a really deep hole.
  15. 2400 is THE powder for 44 magnum. 21 grains of it behind a 240 grain Sierra HP and a non-magnum primer. Does everything a .44 magnum should do.
  16. A .32 in a Single Six revolver is about the most sweet shooting gun ever made....they are small, accurate, and pack a bit more punch than a .22 magnum while not small game overkill like a .38 special. Almost the perfect caliber for rabbit sized critters. Sweet and very underrated cartridge because only the handloaders can make it sing as intended.
  17. Any idea where those grips came from on the SRH? They appear to be well made (hard to get the bark to do that) and are probably worth a good amount of money. They look great on that pistol!
  18. If you want something that lasts a long time....wouldn't it be wiser just to keep the ingredients separate (water, salt and flour) in the first place and make the stuff whenever you needed it. Would allow the ingredients to be available if one were to have a hankering for real food. I was of the opinion that hard tack was made for soldiers so that they could carry more ammo than food.
  19. Nothing you will find will readily take a beating from a bottleneck rifle round. These targets are made for softer, slower pistol cartridges like 9mm, 38, 40, 45, etc. We have some armor 2" thick plates at my club and you wouldn't want to be within 25 yards of one of them when a .223 or .30 hits them.
  20. Here is what I use. $5 will get you two lifetimes worth of case lube. Best stuff I have tried so far (in the past 2 or 3 decades)
