  1. Well, remember that Amazon didn't fulfill the order -- the Holosun Store did. So they're responsible for shipping out the counterfeit, no matter how they received it. If Amazon had done the fulfillment instead of a third-party vendor doing so, I'd be raising hell with them too. In this case, Amazon just processed the order. Of course Amazon does some of their own order fulfillment, so this is also a good reminder to see who is fulfilling your Amazon order. I placed another order, this time not to be fulfilled by the Holosun Store, and it's supposed to arrive today. I'll see if these guys send me a real Holosun or another fake.
  2. Defender, the two previous ones I got came from Kenzie's. They're good and honest people. Different story with the Holosun Store. Lesson learned.
  3. I've become an admirer of Holosun red dot sights after outstanding experience with two of their sights, and a few days ago I ordered a third -- the one a 507K X2 model. Knowing that some online optics vendors sell counterfeit items, I ordered this one through Amazon from the Holosun Store, figuring from their name that I'd be assured of getting the real thing. It arrived yesterday and here's what I found in the package -- apparently a genuine Holosun box and manual, but inside the case is a West Lake red dot sight -- a cheap knockoff, and not even a knockoff of the 507K, but a different model. Back it goes. But I'll not be ordering again from the Holosun Store.
  4. No matter what people say, the term "assault rifle" actually does have a clear and unambiguous definition, courtesy of the US Department of Defense: Assault rifles are “short, compact, selective-fire weapons that fire a cartridge intermediate in power between submachine gun and rifle cartridges.” Read it yourself: Defense Intelligence Agency, Small Arms Identification and Operation Guide - Eurasian Communist Countries 105 (Washington: Government Printing Office, 1988).
  5. I'm hoping that this is a joke and that you don't really believe there is freedom of expression in Russia.
  6. Possums roaming around at night are always happy to find a dead squirrel, or anything else dead. I've heard that foxes do too but I've never seen that to be sure.
  7. Exactly right. When there's a genuine dire need, and no time to arrange fraudulent bids, bribes for permits, and payoffs for relevant state and municipal officials, things can progress quickly.
  8. I can't help on all of your questions, but here's this: 1. It is legal for a felon to hunt with bows and with antique (black powder) arms and to take hunter safety courses in Tennessee. You can take the course online: https://www.tn.gov/twra/hunting/hunter-education/online-hunting-education.html 2. I don't know anything specific about western Tennessee but I know that the firing range at Long Hunter State Park does not require a background check to shoot on the range. I assume it follows the same rules as all other state ranges. But I'd be careful not to handle anyone's modern firearm while on the range. 3. No help here; I'm in Middle Tennessee. Stay clean and straight, and good luck to you. I applaud you for wanting to stay within the law. Cheers, Whisper
  9. Look at stats for defensive firearms use by armed citizens. Also, you might read the recently released "Real Shootouts of the LAPD -- Off Duty Incidents, Volume 1" by Claude Werner. This studies every off-duty shooting (burglary, assault, etc.) by LAPD officers since 2005, so it should be similar to what average citizens experience. One similarity: Firing of more than two shots is extremely rare. That said, it doesn't mean that the need for more than two shots never happens, and you don't want to be the statistical outlier if you're the person involved in a defensive situation where you need more than that. I carry a semiauto most of the time. But just yesterday I carried a J-frame 38 for a while. Make your own choices, but you might take some comfort in the knowledge that it's extremely unlikely you will need more than five rounds. Cheers, Whisper
  10. Unlikely it will do anything to help. But it certainly won't hurt.
  11. I've had an extremely good experience buying and selling right here. Met a few nice folks, too. The volume of ads is not such that you'll find every obscure or specialized thing you might be wanting unless you wait a long time, but interesting items show up daily. And if you're selling a decent quality firearm at a far price, you'll likely find a ready buyer. Now, one of you go buy that M&P 45 that I have listed. Cheers, Whisper
  12. Man, I hate to read about you losing your ARs. I wish there was a way you could transfer them here to Tennessee for safekeeping until you move. Sort of like people who live in California but store their guns with friends in Arizona until they are able to flee. At least you can buy new ones when you get here. If you don't wait too many years, that is -- President Xiden is likely to try some more gun grabs before the end of his term. Good luck, Whisper
  13. Well, that's an excellent idea. whether we're talking about the Floyd homicide, the price of tea in China, or the sun rising in the east.
  14. Agreed. Most politicians despise the whole Bill of Rights.
  15. This is important. When you decide not to patronize a store because of its statist policies, the store manager needs to know it. And needs to know that you'll be sharing your experience on social media with all your friends. Good job, Reefer. Cheers, Whisper
  16. I read it also. Pretty disgraceful. If it was one of us, we'd be in jail.
  17. Haven't seen one of these in a while but I believe that's a 6-inch barrel and not a 4. Cheers, Whisper
  18. WDT, I didn't find anything locally. There's the guys in Loretto that billmeek mentioned, and I found a guy in Memphis, but no one around Nashville. Also, I can't find a local gunsmith who does bead blasting and seems confident of what he's doing. Maybe I need to start training for a new career.... Cheers, Whisper
  19. Might be too late for this to help, but I agree with RandyB. One of my nephews has a EAA Witness 10mm, and although I was never particularly interested in the Witness, I recently had a chance to shoot it, and that thing is nice. I had a Colt Delta 10mm when they first came out and I wound up selling it partly because I didn't think it would hold up under heavy use (something that was subsequently borne out). But that Witness handles the 10mm well...mainly because it's heavy as a boat anchor, but if you're buying a 10mm, you're not looking for a lightweight gun. Straight shooting, well mannered, and reasonably affordable for a 10mm. If you decide against the Glock, it's worth a look.
  20. Anyone know of a gunsmith who does glass bead blasting on a stainless firearm? I called a couple of the local gun stores and I was astonished at their quotes. There are well-known custom smiths in other states who charge much less, but I'd prefer to do business locally if possible. Thanks, Whisper
  21. I don't buy or sell with anyone who has no reputation points, and I'm confident others here take the same precaution. I think it's fine for new folks to get involved in the classifieds if they pay to become benefactors, but I just feel better dealing with someone who's been around a little while. Cheers, Whisper
  22. You can find Remington 870s that accept choke inserts. And the 870 is a candidate worth considering for any purpose for which a shotgun is suitable.
  23. TCA 39-33-106 (a) (16) Handgun means any firearm with a barrel length of less than twelve inches (12²) that is designed, made or adapted to be fired with one (1) hand
  24. As I understand it, restricting the amount of the virus you are exposed to limits the severity of the infection.
