  1. I disagree. Critical thinking, (of which I speak), is really devoid of emotion. Thinking about what you want for dinner tonight isn't the same thing. The left stereotypically let's emotion rule their thought. Many on the right do the same thing, BTW, when it comes to things like religion as an example. Intentionally ignoring facts is also contrary to critical thinking. A good critical thinker takes in all facts that are available to them, analyses them, and makes a decision based on that analysis. They are also open to new positions when presented with new and relevant facts on a subject. Human nature, (according to psychology), is quite the opposite. They show that once most people form a core value they close off further information that's contrary to that value. That has been demonstrated via MRI scans. Usually, it surrounds things like religion and politics. That's why I chose to be an Independent. I try to be open to all facts that are verified to be factual. I lean on the conservative side because of core issues like the Second Amendment. PS: Lack of critical thinking is not equal to dumb.
  2. That's an oxymoron.
  3. I would LOVE to see this cat publicly challenge Beto to a televised gun debate. Think Beto would accept?
  4. Where I was a cop we had several residences with HUGE gardens in town. Naturally, the large population of groundhogs were a problem, and there was an ordinance against discharging firearms in the town. Since I was the designated sniper for my PD, part of my job was to go around town sniping groundhogs with my Ruger 10/22. The groundhog's skull is surprisingly strong. I had to use the hottest available round at the time - which were Remington Vipers - to kill them beyond about 30 yards. I can't imagine using a pellet gun for the task. Of course, today's pellet guns are a lot strong than they were in early 1990's. I've seen groundhogs jump several feet high and climb fences, but never saw them climb trees. I have no doubts that they can. I'm also seen them stand and fight like a raccoon when a dog comes too close.

  6. I volunteer to be the tie-breaker!
  7. Yes, but statistically if they are in your house they are a threat.
  8. His opening statement indicates that if you were to have shot the person who's broke into your home twice then you are a psychopath in his eyes. What an asinine statement to make.
  9. He's reported to be an avid hiker; not hunter, so I doubt that he was actually formally taught anything.
  10. That's how some of the folks around here roll.
  11. She'll probably be out in 5 but she'll have to spend that entire time in isolation because she was a cop.
  12. Interesting. I wouldn't mind getting my hands on one to see how well it fits in my big paws. I have a Slim 9 that I can throw in my back pocket, but it is pretty much a belly gun for me because of its size.
  13. I seem to recall the same thing being reported, but, then again, the news reported a mountain lion by the Coconut Bay Cafe too.
  14. IIRC, it was reported by the local news station that one was spotted by the Coconut Bay Cafe that's next to Stone's River in Murfreesboro off of Old Fort Parkway. EDIT: I just Googled the story and watched the video. It was a good sized Bobcat.
  15. This is why many law enforcement agencies taught their officers to say that they shoot to stop. Saying that you were shooting to kill or injure opens a big can of worms.
  16. It's why I changed my handle on the forum and masked my location. Also, don't think that your privacy setting in Facebook keeps others out of your content. My wife found that out during lawsuit negotiations. They got a post of hers even though she has her account as private. Just another reason why I dislike Facebook.
  17. I wonder how many instances of drones being blasted out of the sky is in the future?
  18. I don't know that I would be comfortable using most center-fires in a dense population. There are too many rocks in the background.
  19. You could try being more informed. There's a huge difference between what Dave posted about traffic tickets or misdemeanors and homicide. There's also a difference between corrupt cops protecting corrupt cops. The average cop doesn't do that, but go ahead and continue painting with such a broad brush.
  20. I guess you've never heard of the Miranda Warning. Let me help you. It starts with, "You have the right to remain silent. Anything that you say can and will be used against you...." Guess where the average criminal fails.
  21. Considering you and Capbyrd have never been cops I understand your perceptions. On my department it didn't happen, so once again Capbyrd painted everyone with a broad brush. Police unions, (where they are legal, but they weren't where I was a cop), supply legal representation for their members. It's why they talk to the union before talking to command and that can't be recorded just like conversations between you and your lawyer can't be recorded.
  22. Unless things have changed in 26 years, Missouri requires intent. Manslaughter covered the rest: However, I seem to recall her stating that she intended to kill the person because she was in fear for her life. I didn't think about it in this context before, but during my HCP class the instructor pointed out a circumstance where you come home and find a burglar in your house you were entitled to the same measures as you would if you were already home when he/she entered your house. If you live in an apartment complex where everything looks the same, this case clearly establishes the need for you to make darn sure you're entering the correct apartment.
  23. Talk about absurd. You watch too many movies. Law enforcement took the case to the prosecutor, the prosecutor charged her with homicide, and she was convicted. Where was the blue backing blue in this case?
  24. That is extremely likely.
