I had something similar with a 1911 A1. I replaced the guts and still had trouble. I took it up to the gunsmith at Greenbriar to look at it. Turns out it was simply the over-travel screw on the trigger that was the culprit.

And the, "What if your family was killed by a stoned driver" argument doesn't wash because the same happens every day from alcohol and drug use.

I see this no differently than alcohol use. I also saw my neighbor eaten up from pancreatic cancer who suffered under conventional care due to the "opioid crisis" who's last days were made considerably more bearable from turning to marijuana wax. I can't understand how the party of personal responsibility can say you're not responsible enough to decide what to put in your body nor how you meet your maker.

The irony here is that the asshat that used the bump stock to kill so many people had the ability to acquire a licensed auto since he had the money and no criminal background. Bump stocks do violate the intent of the law and I'd be willing to sacrifice them if they removed SBRs and suppressors from the NFA list. Throw them a bone and take the steak!

I'd prefer checks and balances. Yes, a cop should be able to recognize a BS complaint but many times they don't/won't. I think that a judge should be able to determine if a complaint was malicious and punish criminally in that event.

To me the devil is in the details. Unfortunately, the government doesn't tend to go back and correct their mistakes. In the case of guns they'll claim that it's better to err on the side of caution regardless of the consequences to the victim.
