  1. I used ta love ta fly fish... It's the only " real " fishing i think... I'm too old n wore down to do it now, but i would offer ya the same advice an old fishing buddy offered me 50 or so years ago: 1... Dont worry about how far to cast, just get the line out there. Ya will finally learn how to do it by practicing. Just get the bait out there. 2... If you can look into a pool and see a fish, he can look up abd see you. They are wily, so you need to " hide" from them as much as ya can... 3... Your bait needs to look natural and like its not attached to anything. Cast it and leave it alone. The big ones are smart, they know the difference. 4... This one is completely illegal lotsa places... Use live bait if ya can...HEHEHE... The lesson is that whatever fly ya use needs to look and act " real "... 5... To practice, there is nothin greater than catching bluegill on your fly fishing rig..! Its fantastic, and teaches ta lots about fly technique. 6... Pay attention to where ya wade n walk. Poison snakes like the water too. Have fun..! Its a great hobby, and the absolute pinnacle of the " fishing craft "...! Heres to great fishing adventures... " Lunker " leroy..

  5. Yes, Brothers n Sisters... I, too, am an Olite Junkie... Simply put, they are as good as this kind of stuff gets... Buy without hesitation.. leroy, Olite Junkie...
  6. It seems appropriate to post this: "... .Musings upon the true meaning of the Fourth of July and it's relation to today's culture... I've noticed that several of my well meaning friends have made various pronouncements as to what " everybody should do " and some of em have passed out backhanded denigrations of those who dont see things their way... They have said they were " selfish, uninformed, ignorant ", etc... This country was founded on the proposition that all men are equal and that government draws its authority, not from kings, experts, well meaning tyrants, despots, mobs, bureaucrats, politicos, and, yes, even well intended individuals; but from the consent of the governed. I say to all ya'll, in the kindest manner possible, your opinion is just that, an opinion... You or I have no warrant to do anything other than to voice that opinion. The truth is that some folks may not see things the way you do... At the end of the day; "... You are responsible for you "... " ...I am responsible to me..."... No individual private citizen has the right to demand that his opinions be imposed on others... We can debate the merits of opinions, nothing more... Remember, there is, indeed, uniformity of thought in the tyrannical lands, as its dangerous not to parrot the " official propaganda line", truthful or not.... We have " The Arena of Ideas " and " Consent of the Governed " here... Lets keep it that way... That, Brothers and Sisters us what the Fourth of July is really about...." That is all... leroy
  7. I'm one of em Brother... I intend to vote with my dollars and do business anywhere other than in Knox county... Anderson County is right over the ridge from me, and Blount County is just south... As the great Tennesseean Davey Crockett said just before his trip to Texas and the Alamo, "... You can go to hell... I'm goin to Texas "... leroy
  8. Yup... Everybody is arming themselves n layin in extra ammo... leroy..
  9. Dennis.. RE:... This... "... .This is just a personal opinion and I'm not disparaging the Big Dots. I tried them on one of my handguns when that 'fad' was at its peak. The lollipop system goes against my 60 year shooting experience of regular sights. I'm growing to dislike the accumulation of all these birthday candles and have to wear bi-focal's to see halfway decent..." I had some of the same problem... I found the " trick " wuz to draw the center of the bead down into the " vee " for a" fine bead " as the old timers would say... I found it worked like a charm. leroy
  10. Bingo..! Ammo on high side of diameter tolerance... Tight chamber on low side... Usin the chamber for a " go- no go " gage will sort out the ammo problem im thinkin. Good luck. leroy
  11. swiley... Buy the ones on sale... They all work great... The voice of experience. leroy
  12. Dave... RE... “...But since I’ve retired, I’ve still kicked around the idea of doing it. It looks like for about $1000 for a Dillion press and the other required accessories. I wouldn’t live long enough to see a savings, but when I die someone would get a very nice set-up for free. ...” I bought a thousand dollar Dillon 650 setup with a pile of dies from an old boy who had retired and wuz moving from a house to an apartment... The cost, 400 smacks... If ya load one caliber n one recipe, ya can’t beat a Dillon... Mine is set up for 44 special now... We shoot lots of it... Or, more correctly, once did... More than one recipe, different calibers; we can quibble about the Dillon. Mine hasn’t been used In several years, as I tend to have “ manias “... 45 Colt, 45 Schofield, 38 Special Hi-Speed, Heavy 357... Ya get the picture... In my opinion, a Dillon setup is for folks that shoot thousands of rounds with very little spare time... If ya shoot one caliber n one recipe, ya can’t beat em... I tend to load all my “ mania “ loads on an ancient RCBS Rock Chucker single stage press. I load about 100 to 200 loads per session that is generally a couple of hours long... I prep brass and re prime as the spirit moves me... It ain’t a big deal, but it takes time n tools to do, as well as plenty of brass. If ya shoot 9mm or 40 S&W, ya just as well buy ammo for the convince n cost alone. Good bullets are probably half the cost of reloading alone... Cast bullets are dramatically cheaper... As for 45ACP, ya are at the break even point for reloading auto stuff, I’m thinkin.. In short, if ya like exotic pistol loads or big bores n ya have the time, reloading is the way to go; but buy a 300 smack single stage setup, not a Dillon, unless ya can steal it... Reloading is as much a hobby as it is a way to get cheap ammo. It does save a bundle on any rifle ammo that ain’t 223... Hope this helps a bit. leroy...
  13. Yup... I like em alot... leroy
  14. Yup... Ya got it... Sadly... leroy...
  15. Folks... Here's the big lesson in this: The Supremes are edgy n nervous just like everyone else... They will not veer from the long time gubt narrative unless it is safe to do so... They are following the federal- state dogma, not moving to the left or right. Just after the Civil War, most state legislatures passed laws taking upon themselves the new power to " regulate the wearing of arms with an eye to the public peace " , to loosely paraphrase these laws... The real reason was to keep arms out of the hands of " unflavored people groups " and give advantage to others... It has been that way since about 1868 or so... I predict that position will continue will be the supreme's position on any states issue that is a " Hot Button " issue... Don't look to the Feds to " fix " anything controversial that smacks of reducing the individual state's powers n laws; it ain't gonna happen unless it is extremely n safely constitutional ... It's a new era... The era of federal fear... They get mail too, and they can read and see what's goin on now. If ya want a gun law changed, ya will have to do it at the state ballot box... Keep your powder dry... leroy...
  16. Dennis... Sorry ta hear about your bad luck... I would be inclined to run my competition ammo thru an ammo gage to check OAL... Inspect any " short " rounds n set em aside... RE... " brass stickin in chamber "... A couple of observations... We used ta see this with hot loads back in the revolver days... We fixed it by cleanin the cylinder bore or chamber, in your case, thoroughly and degreasing it with methanol... The brass expandin with the hot loads will sometimes make the brass grab the chamber n do what ya are seein, as will a bit of dirt or powder residue. The clean chamber thing will allow the hot loads to eject, I'm thinkin... It ain't unusual for these hot loads not to make much more noise than the standard loads, so ya ain't gonna hear em, I'm thinkin... Good luck n be careful. leroy
  17. RE... Accurate loads... H335 is what we used in both 222 and 223 in the old bolt guns... Same results... leroy
  18. Just looked (...again...)... HEHEHE... I'm still likin on the long (..10.5 inch...) Faxon Arms and the CMMG pistolas... The Sig aint bad either... The problem is price... I just can't picture myself payin north of $1000+ for an AR pistola... Ya can buy a pile of Glocks n XD's for that n be like the old confederate calvary men... Remember, the quickest reload is a second (... or third...) pistola... leroy...
  19. RE... " The pistol "... The mania has passed for one... Given what's goin on, I may need ta take it back up again... leroy
  20. I didn’t say that, you inferred it... Why, I don’t know. I ain’t interested in a spitting contest with you or anybody else... Be a big boy n use what ya want... Don’t presume to chide me about my choices n opinions... leroy
  21. I’m 73 and have burned lotsa powder... Probably in the high thousands or low 10,000’s of everything from 222 Remington to 375 H&H thru turn bolt rifles. I don’t know what a jammed bolt gun looks like. I ain’t ever seen one, but that’s just me... I’ve seen folks try to shoot bad reloads or not fully resize or not trim their brass n not be able to close the bolt on a round. I’ve seen fired hot loads stick in the chamber and the extractor jerk a chunk out of the rim and block the action. All these are reloading problems with the ammo, not the rifle... We used ta reload and shoot only neck sized brass target loads in 222, 223, 308, and 300 win mag without any jamming problems as long as the same rifle was used, it’s an old target n bench rest trick that basically tailors your brass to a particular rifle’s chamber. I’ve never seen correctly loaded and sized rounds not chamber. If they will pass a SAMMI gage, they will chamber n fire... To believe that somehow, someway, a bolt gun is less reliable than a semi of any flavor is to believe a fairy tale... Your mileage may vary. leroy.
  22. I like the idea of a short, light, powerful rifle with a good set of sights; albeit irons or low power optical stuff with long eye relief. I like the turnabolt idea for several reasons: 1. The action is short... It takes an additional cartridge length plus for a semiautomatic action... Shorter, lighter. 2. A turnbolt simply doesn't jamb. 3... Great accuracy. 4. Did ya ever think..? Professional game hunters. Turnbolts and double rifles only. The first shot had better be good. The hide ya save could be your own... I find the semiauto rifle " crude n vulgar " for the abovelisted reasons... HEHEHE... " Bawana " leroy...
  23. What Mr Bill said..! Ya simply don’t know... RE.. Shooting... It is, indeed, sad... leroy.
  24. HI... What an absolutely lovely story... Genuine kindness n empathy in action... It’s great that the God of the Universe arranges these meeting just when we need em most... Thanks for sharing this blessing Brother... leroy.
