  1. Ok, poor phrasing. Had judt seen the video of Nasir praying. How about this...Muslims in any unit, active or otherwise?
  2. Allright, I'll be the bad guy and say it. Why are we putting active Muslim individuals in the military?
  3. It has been quite a while since we were there, but Sedona Valley is absolutely beautiful. We were in Phoenix on a buying trip and were headed for the Canyon. Of course going up 89 North, we ran into Sedona and fell in love. But as mustangdave says, have plenty of money. It's full of tourist attractions, parks with walk and hiking trails, and then, several jeep tours into the desert and mountains, and all kinds of food places. While driving thru we decide to alocate a day away from the Canyon time.We ended up staying 3 days. The things I remember most were the Pink Jeep Tour in the hills and Submarine Rock and the magnificient scenery just about everywhere. There's just so much to do and it's been 13 years I think. Just walking around the tourist area of town you can see some of the most awesome and colorful hills you can imagine. If you can stand the dry heat, rent a convertible. You'll love the views just driving around. I highly recommend a late night drive thru the desert and mountains around the area. Don't know if it's still there, but there was an ariel tour in an old biplane. My wife went and was thrilled. It was a lot pricey, I think 350-400 for the tour. But as a gift for her, it was well spent money. Not great details, but I am getting old and senile with memory issues for that far back, but the trip is unbelievable. If you plan on Sedona alone, a week should give you time to see and do quite a lot. If you're planning a tip to Monument Valley or The Grand Canyon, it will be really rushed; because every time you look around, there's something else that just begs you to stop and look. Forget the name of the area, but should you opt for a Canyon jaunt, go to the east end of the Canyon where it starts. Just a big drop and a crack in the earth that becomes Huge, very quickly. It's great. Wish we could go along. Have a wonderful trip!
  4. I've been following this idea for a while now, watching for comments. What I've heard so far seems all positive. I've had a couple of guns clead Ultrasonically and been very satisfied. Meant to go looking for one myself today, but the wife's yard sale trip got me sidetracked in the morning. So there's tomorrow...
  5. Glad to see this was just a judgement in one of his past escapades. I was afraid he'd made another trip outside in his quest for whatever it is he's doing.
  6. Jeff, that's a sweet looking little brick you got there. The Talo Edition sure makes me want to add it to my glock family. There are only three members now, but that may change.
  7. Yes, sell it yourself. You'll be much happier with what you get than on a trade-in, unless you have some fantastic piece that commands a sky-high price. A normal dealer is going to give absolutely as little as possible to maximize his profits.
  8. Congratulations, Eric. I'm really glad you got something this quickly. Kinda sorry you won't be in the Nashville area, but you gotta go where the jobs are these days, especially when you get an offer in your chosen field. As far as Orlando, I don't really know much about it, really haven't seen much of it except for the tourist spots several years ago. But a young man like you should have a ball there. Good weather, good job, and lots of young girls too, I'd bet.
  9. If you are looking to get a carry gun, are you thinking compact, subcompact, or fullsize. A range toy, or just a different home defense gun? Lots of decisions for you, I know, but try to determine your purpose first. A good range gun isn't always the best for cc or hd. You can pretty much make anything do all these things, but ease of use, carry and comfort level with the gun will all be a factor in the choice. And is there someone else going to use it? Wife? Girlfriend? Does the size make a differnce there? Now... revolver or autoloader? Again, how used, who uses? A novice shooter, or someone familiar with guns? And then we come to the big decision... what caliber do you want to get? Don't want to start a caliber war here, but again the above questions come into play. Who will use it? What purpose? And how much to spend/can you afford? Keep the Ruger or sell? I know, I'm sending more questions than awnsers, but as you know, lots of possibilities there. I can't tell you what to do, or what's best for you...but I'll tell you what I would do, and have done in the past. First, if you can afford to, Keep the Ruger. You know it and should be comfortable with it. Maybe it's too big for a comfortable carry gun, but should be a great house/bedside weapon. Secondly, as has been said, check the local shops for used, and police trades. I got a great SW Model 15 for 275. Also found a Smith 3913 in darn near perfect condition for about 325. And there are usually Glock trades available if you look enough. Now...my personal choices. If for cc: a Springer XD compact in 9 or 40, Glock 19, and low end, you can get a good Taurus PT in 9/40/45 usually pretty cheap.Yeah, I know not everyone likes them, but you arent buying for anyone but yourself. Home defense. Just about anything will do. Having a weapon and knowing how to use it is the most imortant part. I have several in different places. A small j-frame Smith revolver for my wife, along with her Stoger 12guage Coach gun by the bed. A Springfield XD 9mm tactical with Surefire light by me, and other goodies sometimes lying around. Just my opinion. What works for me, may not for you. Good Hunting.
  10. Looks pretty interesting all right. Guess I got plent of time to watch and catch up till the release. And not to hijack, but did you watch the Conan trailer that was attached to this? That looks great with Ron Pearlman as a trainer(?) for the young Conan.
  11. Not to make light of your sentiments...but honestly, this was the first thing that popped into my mind. "Happiness...is a warm gun" Courtesy of the Beatles. And yeah, if I were any good at this, I'd have a clip with them singing linked here.
  12. Yes, those are really sweet looking. I can think of a good place for them in my 1911 stable.
  13. Hey, that could be dangerous. Acrumegdely ol fart like me and a young whippersnapper in the same county? Whoa! But good luck with the interviews. Any company I might have heard of? I'd offer to help, but my rep has gotten around.
  14. Congratulations from one old fart to another! May you post 10,000 more. And speaking of post numbers, how did Eric get so many up when he has less interesting things to say than I do.:p How's it going since graduation?
  15. This is very good advice. Start with a good solid production model. Get the high-end big names when you have more experience with the 1911 in gerneral and can tell more about what you do and don't want on your next one.
  16. nysos, if at all possible, don't get rid of your hp clone. As you say great range gun, but it's no slouch as an self-defense or home defense pistol either. Maybe it's not the latest high-tech plastic wonder pistol (yeah I've got some of those too), but it's a solid, functional pistol that's easy to use and has readily available ammo. I know money has a lot to do with the decision, but hey, tell the old lady, and mine's not listening so I can say this, It's mine and I'm gonna keep it. Then tell her you are looking for a 22 for her so you can both shoot together and each have their own to enjoy. It's worked for me.
  17. That Civil War Edition looks pretty good. Makes me sad that I sold my Heritage some time back.
  18. I recently purchased an FM hipower from a forum member here. It is stamped "FM Hi-Power Industria Argentine" on the left side slide and "Detective" on the right. It's a 4in barrel in black finish similar to the black parkerized versions of the Belgian Hipowers. I was a little aprehensive til I inspected and shot the pistol, but it's in excellent shape and functions and shoots very well. Except for paying more than I had hoped for it(a little did for pops here) I'm very satisfied with it. I'd heard of these "compact" hipowers but hadn't seen one before. Had run across the Arcus information, but not the actual pistol. This seems to be a good copy of the orginal. It is easily as good as the Charles Daly Phillipine imported hp clones and in my opinion much better. If yours, nysos, is as good as this, it should be a great Hipower copy.
  19. I'll second the quality of the Cougar 8045; owned one for several years till the parts manager at one of my accounts talked me out of it. They are great. When I get all the others I want...maybe buy another Cougar, this time in 9mm.
  20. Pretty much agree with these exceptions; Never dealt with Hero Gear, so I can't comment on them. But in no particular order--Eastside/G&L-Greenbriar/D&T.
