  1. I was in a climber. The saddest part was the last guy walked in after daylight and I had to actually say good morning to get him to look up and move along. The worst case of this I ever had was on a family friends property. He lets lots of folks hunt on it as does his son. I was already in the tree one morning when two walk in. I wave the light and they keep coming. They finally get within 10 yards and ask who I am and why I'm hunting there. I tell em my last name and that the owner had given me written permission years ago. I also offered that if they went back about 100 yards the way they walked in there was a good spot where they could spread out and we could all hunt the ridge. One of them said if a very surly voice that the son had given them permission to hunt there. He then tells his buddy to get in the tree they had discussed which was only 25 yards from me. So I sit and listen to this guy struggle to hook on and climb this tree in what sounded like a steel with tin cans hanging from it climber for 30 minutes. Sun comes up, he's over there coughing and moving around so much I could hear it easily. About an hour in, I'd had enough so I climb down and prepare the area for the rest of their hunting day by laying down a puddle of "scent", waved and walked out. Be nice in the woods folks! Another buddy of mine said he had similar issues at another location so he got a bag full of hair clippings from his barber and left them spread all around that fellows favorite spot. Aint saying its nice, but woods etiquette is firm.....unless its your property, you let the fellow that got there first hunt it.
  2. So got the Olympics on, got the video stream from the ISS going as well. As it's heading into darkness I see a flash. Couldn't tell if it was a artifact of the lens or did I just see a meteor from the space station. So it got me to thinking.....If I was on the ISS, would I be worried about this increase in activity. http://www.ustream.tv/channel/iss-hdev-payload Who else is going to brave the skeeters to see if theirs good numbers tonight?
  3. Hopefully some of the area locals can tell you which ends of the base aren't that busy. My initial scout was using a map then I spent about 3 hrs walking the area I thought looked good. I should have known when I saw all the fluorescent colored ribbon marking entry points that it was going to be bad but I was hoping they were left overs (some were). When I went to my chosen spot and turned on the flashlight, it looked like a hundred eyes looking back from all the reflective thumbtacks on the trees. I was there so figured I would get in and try. When folks walked on up to my spot even with me waving them off with the flashlight I gave up.
  4. Good luck. I hunted there one time and one time only and never again. To crowded. When I went in (early) there was one other truck on the long straight road I could see. After the 2nd guy walked in on my stand and I exited, there was a vehicle every 50 to 75 yards along the road. I went to an unscouted area that afternoon and did actually see one poor doe that was running so hard that I didn't have time to stand up and draw.
  5. Yep, and all the folks with more than one of anything will have to pony up. Big screens, smart phones, cars.....it's only fair.
  6. Gear Hog is running a sale on Vortex Diamond Back 4x12 x 40 plus rings. $159.99 http://www.gearhog.com/?did=68987
  7. Was happy to see it hit 702. They were in the 600's when I placed my order. Didn't even know this thread was here, got it from a friend so yep, it's spreading.
  8. For the Korea guys. Old photos from a piss poor photographer (me) on a scanner leave lots to be desired but for those that hit the villes, especially up north, you'll remember The Z Home for a year Big bullets Back when DPICM was new. On the Dragons Head, North of the Imjin, just south of the DMZ (so they could hear us practicing) Easter on the Imjin River Can't remember the name of this outpost. There were two on the east and west sides of the road leading to the UN area. That's looking out over the DMZ and into the north.
  9. I grabbed a photo of the old sled that's rusting away in Huntsville. They really need to do some upkeep on most of their outside displays.
  10. LOL, awesome! I saw a poor old rusted Black Bird at the Space and Rocket Center last week. Almost sad......
  11. I told the wife that but she is getting a bit of my thought process and is thinking of a no power for the freezer scenario more and more often. She dehydrates and cans more than freezing now.
  12. The wife just bought a new pressure cooker last week. This past week has been beans, tomatos (yuck), cabbage galore. She made jelly out of elder berry she picked in the spring too. She was very happy to hear the website I spend so much time reading has one of her favorite things to do presented. That buys me some more free time here without gripes.....I'll just say I'm looking to see if there are any tips for her to look at.
  13. Let us know. Seen them but just couldn't buy, at least not until someone not in a commercial says they're worth the purchase.
  14. Eotech's are tough. If it's working when you buy it, it will probably give you no issues. But Dave is right, Vortex is another great optic. I run their red dots on two AR's and their scopes on a hunting rifle. Never an issue. If you want small but effective get the Viper, just get a riser to get it up high enough to get it comfortable with your stock/cheek weld. The bigger but cheaper option is the StrikeFire series. Good solid optics.
  15. I was actually thinking I needed a new good set of bino's and got to this to late but I did find these.... And being a Vortex fan, I got the 8x50s with the free shipping http://www.cabelas.com/product/bargain-cave/new-this-week/hunting-gear|/pc/105591780/c/105633180/sc/105637680/vortex-reg-diamondback-12x50-binoculars/1624987.uts?destination=%2Fcatalog%2Fbrowse%2Fhunting-gear%2F_%2FN-1102643%2FNs-CATEGORY_SEQ_105637680
  16. Multiple hand gun sales in a week. Can't recall if it was long guns at that time. Can't recall the form number as I didn't do that part for the FFL. They were submitted by mail as I recall.
  17. I can confirm Smith's statement, I was at the same store. The FFL had to submit multiple gun sales. I know my name was submitted....sigh.
  18. As reliable as your 5.56, they run the same mag. That's the way Marty designed it, to use standard USGI mags. You can modify Magpuls as well by removing the center divider thing.

    Bear Gun

Recoil is not an issue with the .458 Never got a chance to take a bear with it but one shot stops on TN white tail were very common. I love the SOCOM round, and as said being able to follow up shots quickly make it a great pig gun as well.
