  1. If you are just going to carry one around the place take a look at Simply Rugged pancakes and one of their chest carry rigs. I carry several types from a single six to a FNL 45 in them on ATV, tractors and farm truck. Very handy.
  2.   I have been able to find some good sized scraps at Hobby Lobby in Hermitage  plus they usually have bags of leather strips to use for tie downs and lace.
  3.   Old country remedy for rain barrels in winter. put a 2 x 4 in the barrel at an angle and the ice will climb up it vice expanding in your barrel.
  4. Nice old knife. it was probably black smith made although I have made one like it from a saw blade and used mower section rivits to   secure a wood handle. It could have been used for just about anything. You might want to try using boiled linseed oil and hot water with steel wool to clean the handle then linseed or mineral oil to keep it from drying out. Vegatble oils can get rancid and stink when used on wood.
  5. I would also choose #3 as a style I could use. Can't see your rule clear enough to judge blengths.
  6.    All the time unless prohibited. And I try to stay away from those places. Gun free zones are creepy. I even sleep with two under my pillow.
  7. Get a desantis with a seperate velcro secured cover flap that will allow you to switch pockets .
  8.    PS:   if you don't know anyone in the SCV . Go to The SCV website and call Elm Springs tell them you have Confederate ancestors and want to join. They will put you in touch with someone to get you started.
  9.      I am an SCV member and go to lots of events but I don't re- enact as a soldier. My wife and I do living history demonstrations as civilians. Start by talking to people in your camp that re- enact then go to an event or two and ask about  weapons. men I know are glad to advise and many will have a rifle or so they would part with. Also you can go to the Blockade Runner between Wartrace and Bell Buckle. The Smiths (owners) are good folks and have most of what you would need. They to will advise you on guns and clothes.
  10.     Another thing to consider; can your revolver be used as blunt object? I would not hesitate using a S&W model 10 to beat on someone, but would not want to do the same with my old Colt special police.
  11. I carry revolvers with a loose reload in a  low use pocket  but I always have a new york reload for the primary. Seeing several of you use the speed strips I'll check that out,.
  12. Like someone mentioned lots of S&W model 10s floating around ot there. They are sweet guns.
  13. What Garufa said.              Note:  About half the males at my wedding were armed including me, and our average age was about 55.
  14. Start asking people in your area where you can find someone sawing local cedar. If you can find someone selling salvaged lumber easter red cedar or hard yellow pine will do. Thing is it will cost you more than good quality pressure treated lumber.
  15. VA has OC without a permit. They seem to be doing alright.
  16. I know some of the folks that were envolved in the monument progect you spoke of. My great Granddaddy began and ended his time in yankee prison camps at point lookout. I was also involved in fun raising and planning for the sesquicentenial event at Beaviour. We are heavily envolved in living history and historical preservation. If we the people don't teach our children and grandchildren our history they will continue to elect the same type of people to office we have had in the last few years.    Deo Vendice!
  17.   Last week I was on TN 840 west bound in Williamson county around Almaville road exit when someone on a crotch rocket passed me with a pistol in a kydex rig in plain view.
  18.      I think he has been there before. Plus why would he go to a school that may not need what he is selling? I imagine a very large portion of McGavock parents voted for him.
  19.    I to love those old guns. Every farm had one when I was a kid. I still have the Winchester  Model 67 my uncle gave me when I was nine plus my Daddy's Model 56 Springfield he bought in 1935. Both still shoot well.
  20. Anyone wearing coke bottle glasses should try using them some time. When I was young some folks would light their cigarettes with them as a novelty.
  21. I have a FNP 45, great gun; but it's not my EDC. Largest guns I carry regularly are a 5906 S&W or a 617, 2 inch Taurus. In a SHTF situation 15 rounds in the FNP would be nice.
  22.     Number one; you don't need a 36 inch bar as it will restrict your ability to maneauver. I have cut many larger trees with a 20 inch Stihl saw. However for a close sittuation like that I would get a pro. Between their libility policy and your home owner policy you are covered.
  23.   Well what do you expect from a president from Illinois?  I wouldn't attend either. Dio Vindice!
  24.    Many of my friends went , and my wife wanted to go to Gettysburg for the sesqicentennial re-enactment, but they weren't about to get me up there. I am surprised they all got back. Besides we have plenty of battle sites to look at right here.
