  1. The new Sig Sauer 2019 catalog is out if you are interested. If you are a 45 fan, not a lot of choices left. No more P227's of any kind and the P220 Carry is gone too, for example. https://cloud.3dissue.com/184198/184677/215529/2019SIGSAUERCATALOG/index.html
  2. I don't know if y'all are familiar with ZEV Technologies but they have been making a bunch of Glock accessories for years. Well now they have made their own pistol. It takes a lot of their Glock parts and uses Glock mags but looks like some amalgamation of a Glock and Sig P250.
  3. Looks like S.A. is "reintroducing" the old Gen 1 XD series by selling them for $339 MSRP by deleting the extras and just having one magazine. They call it the Defender series. This may give the Ruger Security 9 folks some competition. Palmetto State Armory has them for sale for $299 now . Pretty neat I think. The XD platform is well tested and proven. I'd buy an XD any day over a brand new design like the Security 9 or any other new design that hasn't been proven yet.
  4. FN America has announced that the 509 family has expanded to include the new 15-round FN 509 Midsize as well as a black 509 Tactical. The Midsize is dimensionally similar to the Glock 19. FN 509 Midsize Specs: Check back with me sometime next week. I'll be able to offer some first-hand thoughts on it, as I have one on the way.
  5. I recently ran across a deal(at least I think so) on a Colt Gold Cup National Match 70 series on another forum that I belong to. I've always wanted one in 70 series and passed on a few due to the price($1200- $2000 plus) this one I got for $850. I checked the serial# on Colts web-site and it showed it was made in 1981. The slide to frame fit is tight with no movement or rattle, has the original box(has seen better days but it is original to the gun) has a collet bushing and it fits tight to the Bbl. front strap has the vertical serrations, original grips. I haven't had time to put some rounds down it yet, but hopefully soon. Here are a few pics.
  6. Not a bad deal for $349. Double action only. https://aimsurplus.com/smith-wesson-model-6906-9mm-caliber-pistol
  7. Starting in the mid 90’s S&W was tapping the 686 for a scope mount. Are they still doing it on new 686’s? If you open your cylinder and look at the inside top of the frame there will be three tapped holes. All mine are pre-locks, and not tapped; never thought I’d be looking for one that’s not.
  8. I’ve been thinking of getting one but I see the current one is being discontinued for a newer milled slide that will take a DPP, RMR instead of just the Sig Romeo. Are the reflex sights being made not a generic style mount? Can anyone out there verify this? The newer model will end with R2 in the model number from what I have read on-line. The older model has dropped to around $650 on-line and from what I see the newer one will be at $800’s. I’m trying to decide if it’s worth it to pay for the newer model.....
  9. I was REALLY wanting to go get a 1911. Posted on here and got great info (thank you), read online and was ready to go make it happen. Went to the gun store today. Someone was blocking the 1911 section so I looked at the used handguns while waiting. In the bottom corner of the case, I saw a HK USP45. Since I had never held one, I figured, why not. It was all over from there. Maybe next time I’ll get a 1911 but I couldn’t walk away from this one. Pretty sure it has never been shot or certainly not much. Off to the range tomorrow!
  10. I am considering getting a new carry gun. I want a 9MM subcompact. The choices available are almost overwhelming, but what I am focused on is: Smith&Wesson Shield Item Number: 11673 Walther PPS M2 Beretta Nano Ruger lc9s I considered the Sig Sauer P365 but I'm not sure the reliability is there yet on that gun. Currently I carry a Smith&Wesson 442 .38 special snub nose revolver. I like this gun for it's ease of carry but I would like a few more rounds. I own a CZ 75 compact 9MM. I love the way that gun shoots, it is much easier to get on target and be accurate but it is just too heavy to carry on a daily basis. I am slender, so concealment is somewhat difficult at times. That's part of the reason for the subcompact requirement. So, what's the recommendation for a reliable, easy to conceal great shooting subcompact? Any recommendations on stores local to the Nashville-Murfreesboro area? Thank, Terry
  11. Just saw this 2 barrel revolver in .22 WMR that fires both barrels at once. Interesting but gimmicky.. https://www.ballisticmag.com/2019/01/04/standard-mfg-s333-double-barrel-handgun/

  13. I know most gun owners don't care for the older Ruger P-Series , especially the younger gun owners. But while at Guns And Leather in Greenbrier I came upon a nice like new used Ruger P-345 stainless slide , with the box , 3 magazines and all for $295. The insides looked like they may have shot no more than 50 rds . I went back there twice , had the cash in hand and some how resisted buying it. I went out set on buying some AR500 shooting steel. I got my steel later on in the day but I swear that Ruger was a sweet deal ! Just thought I'd pass this on since GNL is a great place and I think Mr. William's son is a member here. Those guns were built to last , even though this one and the P-95's and P-97's had polymer rails built into the frame. They just run and run with no wear at all on those polymer rails. So anyone want a good reliable gun at a great price , GNL has it !
  14. I just bought a brand new m1911 I loaded the mag and the mag want lock in the gun any ideas why that is
  15. I hope everyone had a great Christmas!
  16. I thought I would share a product that others might have an interest in. It's an extended magwell from Samson Mfg for the M&P Shield that replaces the plastic slide on filler that goes on the factory +1 mags. I always run the +1 mags so this was a something I wanted to try since I dislike the S&W plastic fillers since they tended to never stay in place on the spare mag I also carry. The magwell is not permenently attached so it can be removed if needed. It adds no extra length to the grip compared to the factory +1 setup. It's made of aluminum and appears to be good quality with no sharp edges. You'll notice the front of the magwell has a slight "hook" shape and I really like the way it feels in the hand. Additionally, now you can release the mag without having to release your finger off the grip like you had to with the factory setup. The normal price runs $49, but I got it on sale for $39 back in Nov. Overall, I'm pleased with the product at this point, but I haven't had a chance to shoot it yet. I don't expect that to change once I do. Link to the product below. https://www.samson-mfg.com/compact-magwell-natural.html
  17. We've been talking about this for a few days over on the Shooters Nation Community (Facebook group). I haven't seen it mentioned here yet. Glock 48. 10rd, staggered or single stack, approximate in size to the Glock 19 but with a slightly longer slide.
  18. I got carried away on my Hi-Point Topic regarding this trade and reason I did and an evaluation of the Spectrum ( I have not shot it yet, just notice the scratch trigger pull - double action in case you did not know that). Summarize part of the reason for the trade was because of the $35 rebate on the Spectrum (by Taurus) and Smoky Mtn Gun did offer to trade. Not much offer, but $75 for the gun, case, extra Mag. So, final cost cash from me was $79.66 for the switch. Then thought I should start a new topic on the TAURUS SPECTRUM 380 based on my evaluation at this point. Maybe, someone has some experience with the firing pin (removal) that I don't. HMMM!!! Just realized be easier to go copy from my Hi-Point post to paste it here than to retype it. I did and came back to edit this post. I add an evaluation with out having shot the Spectrum 380. U-Tube reviews in general are good. It Is What It Is, a low priced small pistol primarily made for easy Concealed Carry, and not a target pistol although some folks do pretty good shooting it. I have not shot it, but did break it down, lube it and have racked it hundreds of times (cheap break in with out AMMO). By the way, a very easy break down, turn one screw head 1/4 turn CCW and pull slide off, put slide back on and the lock screw resets itself. Barrel and spring with rod is easy out also. My main issue not having shot it is the Trigger Pull, it is double only so a long pull before break and a long reset. The worst thing is the trigger is scratchy during the long pull. Having the slide off I noticed the trigger pull is very smooth with out the slide (only the trigger parts and not setting the firing pin in the slide). I then moved the firing pin back (manually) on the slide and you can feel the scratchiness. I took the spring and short rod (it's in the rear of the slide) out of the slide and you still feel the scratchiness when moving the firing pin by hand. Removing the firing in beyond what I did is a DIFFICULT procedure with a number of small springs and a pin involved per U-Tube posts (check U-Tube for Taurus Spectrum 380 Firing Pin Removal). There are only two posts and they are not complete.: One guy is misled in thinking the firing pin is the rod in the spring. That rod is not the firing pin, it is rod to guide the spring. He does at least show how to remove that spring and rod from the slide. The other guy's presentation is more informative as he did have his firing pin out at one time (he says). HOWEVER, he dose not show the removal. He points out that the main block in the slide where the firing pin is actually located (call it the firing pin assembly) can be removed. However, he points out he had a very hard time getting it back together as total of three little springs to deal with and a pin he nearly lost. I had not researched U-Tube before looking at mine (dumb), but at least I did not go so far as to remove the block (firing pin assembly). I did remove the rear spring and rod. I did then manually slide the firing pin (call it the tip the trigger moves) by hand and could feel the scratchiness. SO, IT IS IN THE FIRING PIN ASSEMBLY. The black tube 'thingy' I slid back reaches a stop, but there is a button (Thin about 1/4 inch) in the slide near the rear that releases that black tube 'thingy' and allows it to slide back another 1/2 inch. That exposes a bit more of the firing pin, a metal portion shows up that appears to have some wear (remember this gun has not been fired, but dry fired maybe 10 times at most). The black tube 'thingy' that seems to contain the firing pin is blocked from coming any further. SO, NOT MUCH ELSE can be done in that position. I AM GLAD I DID NOT GO FURTHER as not knowing what I am doing. I would like to maybe Emory Paper it smoother if I could gain access to it after a closer look. I will just go and see if it shoots at this point. Hope I did not mess anything up. ANYONE have any experience with the Spectrum 380 (in particular the firing pin and trigger scratchiness)?????
  19. Dear Brothers n Sisters.... I have re-emerged from my long winter's nap and have been thinkin again about a big, soft shooting 9 mm plastic pistol... I've got a Glock 20 and a 21 layin around... I like the size... Either a Glock or an XD... What do you "Frequent Shooters" like and why...? Thanks a bunch and Merry Christmas... leroy
  20. After the first of the year, I’m looking to pick up a entry level (~$500) 1911. It will be purely for range use as I prefer DAO for my carry weapons. It should go without saying but, it needs to be in .45–Any suggestions? I’ve had a Taurus in the past and it was pretty solid but I didn’t like that some of the parts weren’t interchangeable with traditional 1911 components. Oh, the less obnoxious the slide markings, the better. I’m a bit of a minimalist when it comes to logos and such. Thanks!
  21. From top to bottom 2009 RAMI 2075 P 2013 SDP, an improved P01 from CZC with CGW grips. and the one that started it all, my beloved 2006 75B Omega, improved by CGW with Hakan Pek grips. All in 9mm with mag compatibility, though I have not tried the 18 MecGars in the RAMI yet. I like the SDP the least, while the trigger is smooth, it's slightly bumpy, which makes sense since you are moving parts in a complicated decocker sear cage. It is also equipped with Heinie 2 dot sights and I've been a 3 dot guy for nigh 30 years. I'm planning on using the RAMI in the upcoming training class with Randy. If I like shooting it, I will send it off to CGW.
  22. Picked this one up today, Beretta 92G Tennessee limited edition. Had no idea they were made until a fellow board member posted a pic, and then helped me find one after my searches came up empty!!
  23. Is the Bersa Thunder made in stainless steel or the one you see on Gunbrokers that are called ss just plated satin nickel?
  24. It looks to be nearly identical to my Taurus Millenium G2. I'm wondering if there is enough difference to warrant an upgrade to the G2C.
  25. I’m kicking around the idea of scoping a revolver. Curious to see what set-ups others have used. I was going to do it with one of my center fire revolvers, but they are not drilled and tapped for it. My 617 is, so I may do it first. I’m looking at a conventional scope. I already have a Vortex Venom Red Dot on a pistol. I’d be interested in what scope and mount you chose. Pictures would be great.
