  1. So I just got my Shield 2.0 in 9mm and immediately compared it to my 3rd generation G27 (my edc for the best part of the last 15 years). All I can say is “WOW!!! Why didn’t I get one of these years ago ?” I had one of the original full sized M&P’s in .40 . I hated the trigger vs the Glock and got rid of it mostly due to this reason. I can truly say there is almost no difference in the trigger in my new shield 2.0 vs the Glock (my understanding is this was one of the upgrades in the 2.0). The feel , the pull , the reset are nearly identical (im sure I could nitpick it with a gauge but I don’t usually carry a gauge into a defensive situation). Now for the wow part... on paper they are nearly identical in weight and size specs but this is far from the real world . The shield feels so much more comfortable and light compared to the Glock . It’s a quarter of an inch shorter at the barrel and a quarter inch shorter at the grip but the width..... damn . Again , on paper it looks negligible but once holstered (as you can see in the pics) it’s damn near a half inch narrower and feels so good inside my waistband . As for weight unloaded not a huge difference but loaded a little over a 1/4 pound difference (that’s nothing to sneeze at ). I put the shield on to of the g27 so you could see all the places it saves on size. I can’t wait to take her to the range . I’m almost a little too excited .
  2. Been getting a hankering for another revolver of late. I currently only own one Ruger single action in .357. Yesterday day I stopped at two LGS and attempted to checkout some offerings in .357mag. First of all, I am not looking for something for canceled carry. I really want at least a 3" barrel and and 6 shots in either blue or stainless. And I'd like it to be under $500. It seems all that's available are snubbies. All the full sized versions looked like they were rode hard and put up wet AND they wanted a premium for them. Are there any full sized revolvers, at a decent price being made anymore?

    Sig P210

Does anyone here have one? Is a new one available at a gun store anywhere in Middle Tennessee? I think I'd like one. I'd love to hear your opinions.
  4. Garufa

    Barrel Length

Why is it that the barrel length measurements of “pistols” of the semi-automatic kind include the chamber but those of revolvers (also pistols as far is I’m concerned, but I like saying clips too, lol) do not? It has always kind of bothered me. Is there a reasonable explanation other than one is a single unit and the other isn’t as in the case of a revolver?
  5. I got to looking at the Glock 19X . To me it seems like a sales gimmick. If you take a 19 and insert a 17 magazine then there ya go . Or to make it more "better looking" just add an X-Grip to smooth the gap. I just don't get paying the extra money for it . Any thoughts ?
  6. Hey folks, it' been awhile since I was last here. Picked up a few guns since I was last on here. One in particular I'm really impressed with that I should have taken a picture of the targets. Shooting from 5, 10 and 12 yards all hits were within the size of a pie plate and the trigger is the best I've ever felt on a striker pistol. It's smooth and the reset is the best I've ever encountered. It's a long story and to keep everyone from falling asleep I'll keep it as brief as possible. Last month I shot so well in our monthly IDPA match with my G19, which I switch back and forth between a Kimber Pro Rapter .45, I decided I wanted a duty size gun for competition and a longer sight radius. I had my mind made up on a G34, that is until I walked into the local gun shop and our club treasurer was working at the time. They didn't have the G34 in stock but would order it for me, but he pulled out another full size nice looking 9mm of which I had never heard the name of before. He and the other sales guy working there were praising it and saying they both had one and loved it. So I fondled it for about 10 minutes, pulled the trigger some and checked the reset, etc. I looked at all the gizmos and gadgets that came with it and asked the price. With tax less than $500.00. SOLD! The pistol I'm referring to is the Canik TP9 SFx. There's nothing like buying a pistol first, then looking at all the Youtube video's and reviews afterward is there? Like any handgun, there are a few detractors out there, but most praise this Turkish pistol. The only draw back I've found so far was finding a holster for it, in LEFT - HAND, that was a chore. I'm anxious to see if and how much it improves my IDPA and steel match scores. Did I mention it comes with two - twenty round magazines? What a gun for the money. No, I'm in no way associated with them...
  7. I need a new set of grips for a couple of my revolvers. I just bought a Smith 66-8 2 3/4 inch and I am considering the Pachmayr Compac Professional for that one to help with concealed carry. Has anyone tried this particular grip? I'm also looking for suggestions for my old 686 square butt 4 inch. I have the original stocks, but I want to move to one of the Pachmayrs for it too, just haven't decided on which one. I have the Pachmayr Diamond Pro on the 686 2 1/2 inch, and it's easily the most comfortable grip I've shot, but it's too fat and way too sticky for concealment. Plus, I don't think they make that one for the square butt guns anyway. I don't mind the Hogues in the Bantam series, but I'm not a real fan of the great big convoluted looking grips they make for the square butts.
  8. Hard to believe that selling price https://www.gunbroker.com/item/750644382
  9. I thought I had it figured out. The pistol for me. The "I don't CARE what other people want, or what's popular, it's for ME" pistol. I'm equipped with some good revolvers which I'll never let go of. So that niche is covered. Good to go. I had grown completely weary of Glocks, my oldest son wanted a Glock, so I gave him two. Good to go. Now to figure out what I want for ME. Borrowed his Beretta 92. Loved it. Carried it for a while. Thought "I'll go this route." Bought a Beretta 92G Elite II. "THIS is PURDY! This is the one for me!" Is it? So why can't I get away from the constant siren's call of the 1911? I can't stand this much longer.
  10. I have several firearms that I've decided to part ways with. I've never went through the process of selling guns before and would like to do this in person instead of going over the internet. What would be the best way to handle this for someone in South East TN. Specifically which store/pawn/range would you recommend in this area that would treat me right. I don't necessarily mean give me good price for the guns, but rather make sure that all the paperwork is done correctly and generally someone who would be willing to answer my questions. thanks in advance for all the suggestions.
  11. Well I have reached the point of what I "need" or , LOL , what I want , in handguns. I have the Glock platform , the 1911 , and the Beretta M9 . I am to where I see what I want. And "want" is not needed. For some crazy reason I cant explain , I want the Springfield XD9 Mod2 Gray frame and the Stoeger Cougar in 45 ACP . I don't know why I keep going back to these 2 . I have been beating myself over and over for the last few months. The Stoeger isn't made anymore and doesn't have parts made for it for sale . That's a big minus ! The S.A. doesn't have parts readily available like Glock or Beretta to where I could just go pick up a part on the spare of the moment. I like them both . I have had the Cougar and it was great . I haven't had the S.A. XD9 Mod2. I have had the XD9 Service but not the Mod2. Anyways , just thinking outloud . Maybe this discussion will benefit someone ?
  12. Anyone have experience with the S&W Scandium Frame 45 acp with Ported Lighting Cuts? The model # is 170344. I am specifically interested in whether the recoil of the light frame is countered effectively by the lighter slide (due to the porting cuts.) Thanks for your assistance.
  13. More on the gun here: https://www.juliegolob.com/mp-introduces-mp380-shield-ez-pistol https://www.smith-wesson.com/firearms/mp-380-shield-ez-manual-thumb-safety February 5, 2018 New M&P380 Shield EZ pistol features easy-to-rack slide, easy to load magazine Smith & Wesson Corp. today announced the addition of the new M&P380 Shield EZ pistol to the company’s market-leading M&P Shield pistol series. Built for personal protection and every-day carry, the M&P380 Shield EZ is chambered in .380 AUTO and is designed to be easy to use, featuring an easy-to-rack slide, easy-to-load magazine, and easy-to-clean design. When we set out to design the M&P380 Shield EZ pistol, our goal was to deliver an all-around, easy to use personal protection pistol – from loading and carrying, to shooting and cleaning. Throughout the development process, we focused on key areas that customers told us were important – the ease of racking the slide and loading the magazine. With that in mind, we reduced the amount of force required to rack the slide, and developed a magazine that is both easy and efficient to load. We have incorporated both of these new features into the M&P380 Shield EZ pistol, allowing consumers of all statures and strengths the opportunity to own, comfortably practice with, and effectively utilize this exciting new pistol. The new M&P380 Shield EZ pistol provides an easy-to-use personal protection option for both first-time shooters and experienced handgunners alike.” – Jan Mladek, General Manager of M&P and S&W Brands Built for personal and home protection, the new M&P380 Shield EZ pistol is the latest addition to the M&P M2.0™ family and features an 8+1 round capacity and a 3.675” barrel. The M&P380 Shield EZ pistol ships with two 8 round magazines that include a load assist button for quick, easy loading, as well as a picatinny-style equipment rail to accommodate accessories. The pistol also features an optimal M&P pistol 18-degree grip angle for a natural point of aim, white-dot front and adjustable white-dot rear sights, and a light, crisp trigger with an MSRP of $399. The M&P380 Shield EZ pistol has begun shipping, and will be widely available at firearms dealers across the nation by the end of February 2018. M&P380 Shield EZ pistol features include: Easy-to-Use Design Easy-to-rack slide for trouble-free manipulation Tapered rear slide serrations, providing an easy-to-grasp surface Easy-to-load magazine design with load assist button for quick, easy loading Superior Performance One-piece, single action trigger for crisp trigger pull with tactile and audible trigger reset Windage-adjustable, white dot rear sight M2.0 enhanced grip texture optimized to size and .380 AUTO recoil Superior Controls Tactile loaded chamber indicator to both see and feel if a round is in the chamber Reversible magazine release that’s easily adjusted for left or right hand operation Available with ambidextrous manual thumb safety
  14. We took a drive today and ended up in Humboldt, TN, at W.H. McGuns shop. They have a very good selection of vintage Colt And S&W revolvers, though scant Single Action Army models. Did have some nice Diamondbacks, though. Bob Wright
  15. Anyone know what the 3D in an oval means? I know the pentagon with the dot meant it could handle +p+ ammo. Also, what does AT stand for? Thanks.
  16. Since we're talking big bore revolvers (.45 Colt thread), Let's go ahead and talk about my favorite big bore wheel guns, The .44 Special. The .44 Magnum may be more popular, but the .44 Special will handle anything a handgun can be asked to do without all that buck & roar. The special makes an outstanding defense round and is capable of taking any game up to Black Bear. For a big bore, the recoil is mild and the cartridge is famous for its accuracy. I love these things! Top row: S&W 2nd Model .44 Hand Ejector 5" barrel: This one shipped Jan 22, 1924 to the Joplin, Missouri Police Dept. Man if this one could talk.... S&W 1st Model .44 Hand Ejector 5" barrel. AKA the "New Century Model" or "Triple Lock" due to the extra lock built into the cylinder crane. Shipped May 21, 1910 to Birmingham Arms & hardware, Birmingham, Al. 2nd row and middle bottom: In 1983 Smith & Wesson re-introduced the .44 Special with a run of 7,500 Model 24-3s. Most were 6 1/2" barrels with 2,625 made with 4" barrels. They proved to be so popular that Lou Horton Distributors commissioned S&W to make 5000 3" guns. I am fortunate enough to have one of each. Bottom left: Charter Arms Bulldog 3" made in 1985. The original pocket power house! Bottom right: S&W Model 696 no-dash. Made in August, 1997. A 5 shot .44 built on S&W's L-frame with a 3" barrel. These are highly sought after as they were the last S&Ws built before the introduction of MIM parts on the dash 1 version. I know a lot of you own .44 Magnums, now fess up. Who shoots them more with .44 Special ammo?
  17. http://www.springfield-armory.com/products/1911-trp-10mm/#PC9510L18 I simply must have the 5-inch model. So much drooling here right now. Oh, and they have a long-slide version with adjustable rear sight for you nerds that like things such as that.
  18. So I finally finished my Glock 17 gen4 minus the magwell. Specs: Zev Tech Socom complete slide in space gray DLC, threaded and dimpled barrel, Zev Tech lightweight extended striker, Zev Tech sights, RMR cut, Agency Arms drop in non adjustable trigger, and Taran Tactical +6 basepads. I also have e the co-witness iron sights if I ever put an rmr on it. Eventually want to put the Zev Tech magwell on as well. Shoots great and I messed around with spring rates/connectors because trigger was too light. Got it up to about 4.5lb now which is where I like it.
  19. My wife wants a revolver. Both of us are new to shooting, so we are not familiar with the makes and models available. She wants one where there cylinder hinges out, so she can load all rounds at once, using a moon clip or speed loader. She has long fingers ( she's six feet tall) so she wants a gun that feels good in her hands. But, she doesn't have strong hands, so lighter weight and low recoil is a plus. (I know lightweight and low recoil may not go together. ) Caliber, bigger than 22. Thanks for your help.
  20. My Maxim 9 is back at Silencer Co for its third time. They've paid for shipping each and every time. However, they've yet to fix the firearm any time. The firearm has repeated light strikes. They even asked me what ammo I was using. That consisted of Fiocchi, PMC, and Sellior and Bellot I believe. They said they had that same ammo on hand and would test it. Every time the firearm comes back, it works for 50 rounds, then it starts having issues about 30% of the time. I don't know if it's the heat, dirt, or something else. Whenever I ask what they tested with, they tell me they used something else other than what we discussed. The customer service is generally poor. None of the emails through the first two trips back were even signed. I never knew if I was talking to one person or a group of people. I complained and got in co tact with someone higher up. I finally got a name. They've had it since the 24th of January this time. I sent an email on the 12th of February to get an update and no response. It's pretty sad. I'm pretty unhappy at the moment.
  21. Recent articles in The American Rifleman are of interest to me, don't remember the names of the articles or the issues, but of recent times there was an article on the pistols submitted to the Army Test Trials of 1900, then early auto pistols, and the March 2018 issue contains a photo story of early Mauser pistols. And the back page I Have This Old Gun... depicts an old Sauer auto pistol. Single Action man that I am, I find these early pistols and their development of interest. Bob Wright
  22. A local shop has a Dan Wesson 744 (Stainless 44 mag) for sale for $499 but the gun has some very light surface rust on the trigger, hammer and at the end of the barrel. I'm not a revolver guy and this would be my first revolver of any kind but the rust scares me a little. The action is smooth and crisp and I can't detect any problems when pulling the trigger. The shop guy told me he thinks it just needs polishing and it should run around $100 to get that done. I really would like to buy the gun but I'm just not knowledgeable enough about revolvers to make an informed decision. Any help would be appreciated.
  23. Just in case anyone is interested in less loading at the range. Glock .40 Cal 50 Round Drum Magazine $29.99 at Classic Firearms. Classic Firearms .40 cal drum
  24. Was at the range today with my brother and started talking with this guy who just came in, had a brand new never shoot XDE in 42acp. Looks just like my XDS but with a hammer, DA/SA decocker if thats what you want, or carry cocked and locked SA. Might get one in 9mm. I prefer all metal guns but there is something to be said for a inexpensive plastic one too.
