Sig P320 - Carry, Range Only, or Sell

I suspect the coffin on the SIG 320/ M17/18 is about to be nailed shut. They’ll be bringing back the Beretta M9s from war reserve status, probably very soon.

The recent events are tragic.  I don't have much hope for SIG stepping up to do the right thing.  May the Airman rest in peace.

Indeed, including the incident on an Air Force base two days ago, which was fatal. This has prompted the USAF Security Forces command to issue an order to stop carrying the M18 and instead is arming it's personnel with M4s.

So, I'm about to send in my FNS-9 for recall work. The specific chain of events that lead to the FNS-9 involuntarily discharging (as best as my research allows) is that it needs the slide to be SLIGHTLY racked and the trigger to be pulled at the same time. This is a HIGHLY unlikely event, but it was concerning enough for FN to offer free striker replacements for all affected pistols. The Sig 320's issues were never really able to be reliably replicated if I recall correctly. With that being said, and with Sig's relatively staunch "they're good to go now" stance on the matter, I'd be hesitant to carry a 320 in full confidence as an every day carry. With such reputable brands like S&W M&P, Glock, and FN being alternatives, I myself wouldn't carry a 320.

Man, loved my FNS9. But when I started reading that it was having issues, I moved it for a Glock 45 Gen 5 and never looked back.

Totally understandable! Their voluntary free repair is what made me purchase this pistol (at an awesome price right after the height of the worries, haha).

Glockstore in Nashville has banned them from the premises entirely.  Scott Jedlinski of Modern Samurai Project has banned them from classes. There is a tidal wave of ranges and instructors banning the 320.

A lot of "everyday" people have a lot of money tied up in the platform Firearm, mags, holsters, etc...).  A platform that they may no longer feel safe to carry/use or want to but that does not have any value compared to what one should expect it to carry on the open market due to a design flaw that appears may have been ignored and covered up.  Now, no one cares about us but there are a lot of large institutions in the same spot.

Hopefully this will bring down the price of the P320 XTEN comp.  Would love to own one of those!

I remember in the 90’s when many police departments didn’t allow Glocks because they were thought to be dangerous.  No one around here carried them.  Memphis was S&W and then Sig.  Shelby County was Beretta and then Sig.  Bartlett was Sig.  Germantown was H&K.
I say that all of that to point out that the same rhetoric was being said about Glock back then.  The ND’s kept coming back to a bad holster or a finger on the trigger.
As a former police officer, I can tell you that a negligent discharge would be very detrimental to your career.  I strongly believe that this is a factor in the police ND’s.  Amazing that the largest military in the world doesn’t seem to have trouble with the 320.

I remember this too.  There was actually something called Glock leg during this time.  It was a reference to all the discharges by glocks in peoples legs.

The more a gun sells, the more people will have accidents.
