The untrendy carry pistol: Glock G30 45acp

After twenty years of wanting to try one, I got a Gen 4 Glock 30 for Father’s Day this year.. and I love it!

Yes, it’s not a 9mm, and it’s fat as hell. It only holds ten rounds, and yes, 45acp costs too much. And, true, now that you mention it, the trigger is nothing special, the sights belong on an airsoft gun, and I could care less about throwing on a red dot, or getting it comped or ported.. but maaaan is this chunky monkey a shooter!

I haven’t owned any gun chambered in  45acp, or any Glock, in years, but I’ve got 250 RDS through this G30 over two range sessions, and it is just so much fun to shoot for some reason. Recoil is pleasant, and the fat grip almost seems to help my trigger press be cleaner. I went ahead and ordered some Trijicon HD sights, extra mags, and a good kydex IWB holster to work this chubby fella into my carry rotation. I know it’s not a trendy carry option in 2025, for some valid reasons, but this baby is staying in my collection!

Only Glocks I’ve handled, owned, or shot are the 17, 19, 26/27, 43, etc. The 21 must be a big boy seeing as how the G30 is a chunky monkey!

I love my Glock 30 gen3.  I agree with @Marine Dad it is the most accurate Glock I have.

I had always heard that about the G30 series, and I have to say it is absolutely true for some reason. I already shoot it as well as some pistols I’ve owned for a few years, which makes no sense to me.

If you are comfortable with, and shoot a certain gun well, it’s THE right gun.

Glad you found the one perfect for ya😉

Best shooting Glock I own. It’s my Winter carry pistol. And yes, it’s a biggun!

Got my Vedder IWB holster for the G30 today, and picked up 1,000 rounds of Federal 230gr Hydra-Shok hollow points today for a great deal at one of my local gun stores. My Trijicon HD sights should arrive tomorrow for it. I’m grinning like a Cheshire cat with the G30 now!

Good for you on this,  I'm a fan of Vedder.  They are brilliant on their spring clip mount/kydex method.  My "chunky" 15 yr old Hk USP 40 compact prints less than all of my friends's Glocks for IWB.  (They don't have Vedder IWB).

Your jonesing'  for a 45 tells me you're not a "just spray lead all over, fast" kind of guy.  👊  I've gone so far as to add a wispy thin  1.5" wide strap (front to back over shoulder) on  a belly-band holster.  It keeps the band up higher to allow for an 'under armpit' all-day ride.  My USP never prints. Ever.  Actually quite comfy.  No need for a size larger waist pant for IWB.  The wrap can be a lot looser since it stays up by the over shoulder strap.  Just saying.  I did it on a whim . .. but daaaaaaaamn.  🥰

Yeah, I started with revolvers as a kid, so I still think in terms of careful shot placement even with a semiauto. I’d rather have a slightly slower shot time, and hit my target, than a faster one and miss three or four times.

I've got a buddy who swears by his G30 SF. Never been much of a Glock guy myself, but it seems dependable.

I’m the same way, never a huge Glock guy at all. I owned and carried a G26 for a couple years a long time ago, but then I got more and more into hammer fired, da/sa pistols, and eventually sold it off. It ran like a top, though, and I always shot well with it.

I’ve still never even dipped my toe in the 10mm world. I could always get a conversion barrel, but I don’t really have a use for 10mm, though. It would be fun to try it out!

I love my Glock 20 and will pick up a Glock 29 at some point.
