Code for something else

I was talking with a guy at work about some zombie show he's into lately. He knows I enjoy shooting, and I was telling him how it's pretty common for gun enthusiasts to have a "zombie gun". I was telling him about how awesomely tacticool a zombie gun can be, and he just asked me one question.

"Is zombie code for something else? Like black people?.."

I laughed and told him of course not. I was pretty offended, actually, that he thinks gun enthusiasts are just a bunch of racists. I figure if zombie is code for something, it's probably code for socialists.

What an idiot. Guess he subscribes to the liberal agenda.

Gun owners and survivalists have used the "zombie apocalypse" as a generic, fun way of prepping for a SHTF situation for years.

Certainly, "zombies" are often equated by EOTWAWKI inclined preppers to those teeming and clueless masses who have not prepared in any way and who will be mindlessly stumbling across the land in search of sustenance.

nosnos,

Seems your friend has some latent racial issues.

No. The concept of the Zombie attack does not act as a "wink-wink, nudge-nudge" cover for a race, ethnic, or even political bias.

There may be a valid view where it plays into a fantasy situation where people's fears can be addressed by "killing" (they are already dead) zombies (so there is no real killing.)

That said. The idea is used, in this forum, as a way to poke a little fun at prepping for the severe disaster. Takes the edge of seriousness off.

And besides, it is a bit fun, as you can see from other posts in this section.

As many others besides me have pointed out, if you prepare for a zombie outbreak then you are pretty well prepared for anything - short or even longer term - that might really happen due to natural disaster, civil unrest, etc. Well, that and, lets face it, zombie stories are just good, somewhat nerdy fun and while most of us probably wouldn't admit it, I think that a lot of gun guys are really nerds (or at least ex-nerds) at heart.

Yep. If you're preparing for the world to end because of global warming, you're a leftist nutjob. If you prepare for the end of the world because of a government collpase/revolution/nuclear war, you're a right-side nutjub. the reason for preparedness is what paints people into political spectrums. the preparedness itself is common to both extremes. So prepare for the Z's and you're just a regular nutjob. That is until one of those events actually occurs. And who knows...it could be viral zombies afterall.
