Beretta Nano..one in the chamber?

I just picked up a new Beretta Nano and this is my first carry gun Without an external thumb safety. I normally carry a px4 storm with one in the chamber....what is general opinion for one in the chamber without an external safety? And yes I know the best safety is the one in between my ears...I'm just asking what other people prefer.

I don't know anything about the Nano, but I carry all my DAO pistols with one in the chamber and no external safety. The heavy trigger pull combined with a good holster and keeping my finger off the trigger is my "safety". Just pay attention and be careful while holstering, and use good trigger discipline. My son has a nano and keeps one in the chamber. Be sure to have a holster that completely covers the trigger and you will be fine.

I've got a Pf9 that I carry condition 3. Just personal preference. No external safety. Your original statement about the safety between your ears is spot on. Most of the carry guns without external safeties have a good trigger pull of seven pounds or more. That coupled with a good holster that COMPLETELY covers the trigger should be all you need.

After Kel-Tec 3-AT and Kahr MK and PM 9s pretty much being the vanguard, there are now many small long pull striker fired pistols without external safeties on the market, and of course they should have one in the pipe, as that's a basic tenet of defensive carry.

 

It would take extraordinary circumstances for one to discharge if just carried in a pocket alone, but of course using a decent holster that entirely covers the trigger removes that risk.

A defensive gun without a round in the chamber is nothing more than an expensive hammer.

Regardless of brand, one in the chamber.  It is nothing but an expensive impact tool otherwise.  There is a good chance that when you need it, there will be no time to chamber a round.

I have a nano myself, and the trigger is incredibly long and heavy. Somewhere around 7 or 8 pounds. You're not going to accidentally pull this trigger. Throw one in the chamber.

I have a Nano, and always carry with one in the chamber.  Since the gun only holds 6 shots to begin with I sure don't want to give any up.

yes, keep one in it.  The trigger pull is about 10 times heavier than a glock and longer as well.  It should not be possible to fire this gun by accident -- I can barely fire mine on purpose.  If glocks are safe (and they have been around for over 20 years now without any significant change in the trigger system) the nano is safer as it is harder to fire....

Regardless of the gun IMO everyone should carry with one in the chamber! To believe that you will have time to rack a round into the chamber is wishful thinking. I get the Police reports for the South Precinct here in Nashville and most of the reports show that when the victim first encounters the BG their gun is already out leaving no time to respond to the threat. Judging from these reports there would be many times that even with one in the chamber you still may not even have the chance to draw.

One in the chamber and ALWAYS aware of your surroundings is the best defense.

External safeties don't belong on a defensive handgun, just one more thing to get in the way when you don't need it to.

If you aren't comfortable with a loaded chamber, you either don't understand how your pistol works, or else you bought the wrong pistol.

 

Don't pull the trigger and the gun won't fire. It ain't any more complicated than that.

One in the chamber.  In a situation where you actually have to shoot, you'll need your other hand free.

I'm only recently a carrier (that makes it sound like I have a disease or a flight deck....). I've had my permit, but felt my PPQ was a bit too big of a gun in my pants (insert your joke here). I picked up a PPS the other day and have been carrying it unloaded. This is solely until I become comfortable with my draw though. Right now it serves the purpose of getting me used to having it it on me from a psychological and comfort perspective and I also have it for something truly strange. Once I get more holster and draw practice I will start to carry it +1 though.
Long story short, don't do anything you aren't yet comfortable or feel safe with. Practice until you do and then, and only then, should you carry it such that your trigger finger, brain and training are your only safeties.

The Nano has a great trigger for carry, smooth, stiff, and long. I would have no problem carrying a Nano with one in the pipe.
