Pretty sure a guy that bought ammo this morning

It might make everyone angry but buying for a given price and marking up for a profit is capitalism.

If you got a deal on a car and flipped it for a profit, what's the difference? Sure, somebody would be pissed but that's just life. It all boils down to the haves and the have nots. The have nots are always upset with the haves for having something they want.

Fair pricing and price control for anything is communism. That's why there are anti-monopoly laws. To keep absolute control out of people's hands.

And, as has been stated over and over, there is no law that says you have to buy anything you fell is unreasonably priced.

There is a law that says you have to buy something or else!!!!!!!How much did your health insurance go up in the past 1.5 years.....That law is called Obamacare.

Ethical a--holes?

I dunno.....I do run across plenty of self righteous a--holes, self absorbed a--holes, arrogant a--holes, stupid a--holes, inconsiderate a--holes, and politicians, but I don't guess I've ever considered their ethical standards.

None, and mine never will go up. I don't have insurance. If I see a physician I pay with cash or I DON'T see one.
Upon implementation of ghettocare I will become a criminal I suppose. I will not comply. I will not pay the fine. They can kiss my azz.

I see medical care no differently than a mechanic. I dont get my car fixed and NOT pay the bill. I don't get an insurance policy to pay it for me. Payment due for services rendered at the time of completion. If it costs me my life because I cannot afford their service, that does NOT make them some soulless monster. That's just life. If I can't afford food and I starve to death, it ain't Krogers problem.

Jeez! Who sat around and let me run off on that unnecessary tangent!?!? Edited by Caster

If I had the money I've paid in premiums and the interest it would have made in an interest bearing account all these years I'd have plenty of money to pay cash like you Caster. Just wasn't smart enough to know that back in the day.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but in order to be an ammo dealer I thought you needed an FFL. These aholes who are taking all the ammo at source and reselling it for profit are generating an income from it, so they are breaking the law.

Works if you never have tax refunds for them to grab it out of. At least in the beginning, but  probably wage garnishees/property liens will follow at some point.

You're wrong. :)

Seriously, you only need one to manufacture  or import ammo for resale.

So I can open up my own ammo store without an FFL?

Yep. Good luck getting stock. Lemme know of all specials. :)

Seriously, TN may have some special license I don't know of, but you don't need a federal one.

Correct.  Just have to pay the ammo tax from the state.  A lot of hardware stores are like that.  The chains generally have an ammo section within sporting goods.

Dang, I think you need to start being a travelling motovational speaker! Seriously, that is the most common sense Ive heard in a long while!

People have abandoned the concept of paying for what you get and if you cant pay, dont get it.

I'm not for price controls, and the guy can do whatever he wants with the ammo he bought. What I don't understand, to use your car analogy, is if people were waiting at car dealerships for shipments, and buying ALL the cars before they hit the lot, and doing it for nearly a year now, wouldn't manufacturers ramp up production to meet demand?

This ammo shortage has lasted longer than I expected, and I smell a rat. I just can't put my finger on it quite yet.

I'm not a genius but no business would spend the money to build additional factories or production lines knowing that an outrageous consumer run on a particular product line is nothing but a temporary thing. Temporary maybe be one year or five years but it's temporary nonetheless.

If retailers would simply quit telling customers when a shipment is coming and trickle the product out at random times like everything else in the store the lines would disappear.

This is capitalism. It's the way it works. It's not an unethical practice despite how much it pisses people off.

Not true. If you buy something with the sole intent of reselling it, you must have a business license and collect sales tax. These guys are breaking the law.

I understand, but I'm beginning to wonder just how temporary this will be.

Very good article in Sep 2013  Guns and Ammo.  The companies are running 24/7 making ammo and guns.  New companies are starting up; old ones expanding.  That is all GOOD.  More gun sells than ever.  Hopefully these people vote.  Several things came together to cause a decrease in availability and the only thing that the gov'mt can be blamed for is fueling the 'panic' buys of both guns and ammo.  More folks wanting guns = more ammo needed.  It is temporary and things are loosening up.  Hope the vultures who tried to gouge everyone get choked on their stockpile.  Like any investment, they will have to keep theirs long term or sell it for a loss eventually.

Then that makes half the people in the country who work hard for a living a criminal. I don't know very many people that I would consider a hard worker that DOESN'T flip an item or two for profit. What else can a man do to make ends meet?

I said it before and I know y'all don't like it but I think most people are mad about this because they want something today, for yesterday's price. The market dictates price. Not what we all think is fair. If there were no market for this ( meaning people buying it) then they wouldn't be do this.

Another thing that'll really ruffle some feathers; people have done this to themselves by becoming dependent on real time inventory. For 99% percent of us, there's NO reason we should be desperately looking for rim fire ammo. It's been cheap all my life up till recently and so I bought plenty based on my theoretical consumption.
If you typically shoot a box a week and you only buy a box a week, then you shouldn't be surprised that you're out when supply stops.

This really is a silly argument on both sides. My point of view is silly, as is everyone else's. Why would I say that? Because its foolish to complain and worry over the things you have NO power to change. Who by worrying can ad one cubit to his stature?
We can't force them to produce more no matter how much we scream. We can't force people to stop jacking up prices. The only tool we have is to vote with our wallet and refuse to do business with those we disagree with.

....and yes I know I'm a hypocrite because I'm constantly bitching about things. LOL! Edited by Caster

We do have the power to change it. If people would stop buying a $15 brick of ammo for $50 from JimBob on Armslist then scalpers would stop cutting off our supply.

What I said above isn't quite right, but it applies to ammo resales. If someone repeatedly buys goods with the intent of reselling those goods for a profit, then he/she must have a business license, collect sales tax, AND report the profits made on Schedule C of their Federal Tax Return.

If someone sells a one-time item for a profit, it should be reported a capital gain and taxes paid depending on whether it is a long-term or short-term (less than one year) holding period.
