I would love to, but have never done it before. And with my luck, id pick the wrong ones and be in the hospital getting my stomach pumped or some other horrible situation im sure. Its always interested me though.

Reed.. with Morels its like this... if the stem is hollow.. its good.. if the stem is solid inside..  bad ones..

They're pretty easy to differentiate from a normal shroom.

I've never hunted or ate morels as I'm not much for mushrooms in general.

 

Last time I saw a similar thread, someone linked this site. Not sure how accurate it is, but I've tagged it as a resource should I ever need it.

yes.. I will stake my life on it.. since there are only 2 mushrooms look like this ..none others are even close to the Morel.. This page will  explain very plainly.. and to the point even I can understand it ..lol

When I was growing up we used to go hunt mushrooms all over the woods in germany..Never got sick ...because we would only pick 3 different kinds  that we knew that where Ok to harvest.. But yea.. germans are shroomers:)

I love them things but don't know where to look for them or I would go look for them. Can anyone offer up any type of locations to look in like dry areas of forest or moist ares in the woods? Maybe near small creeks in woods of shady hill sides?

Moist shady areas most ESPECIALLY after a fresh rain. Look near fallen logs or dead fauna, be sure to tread lightly and slowly and keep yer peepers open, I've almost accidentally stepped on them before.

Only two things I wont eat, mushrooms and olives. Texture on the first, taste on the latter. But some mushroom dishes look amazing tho.

People will tell you all kinds of formulas to find them.. most are smaller and if you dont look close enough.. you will simply miss them. Wooded area with lots of dead logs is a good starting point. And if you find one.. there will me more.. bring a small knife.. dont rip em out by the roots..

You miss out on sautéed mushrooms on your steaks, mushrooms, onions and black olives on your pizza. That makes for some great eatin'.
