  1. Past hour
  2. I wasn't, but I will now. Thanks, I'll just pull harder. It's a new rifle, only 60 shots through it, just wanted to test out the snake to see if I needed a new one.
  3. The first time I used a boar snake It kind of scared me. Go ahead and pull it. It'll go through no worries. You are running it from the chamber end up to the muzzle, correct?
  4. Just my two cents worth: Never heard of a "free firing pin" Have heard of inertial firing pins on 1911's, and most modern guns. To my understanding these are to prevent contact with the rear of the firing pin by a foreign object setting off the round. Something that could possibly happen on a weapon with an exposed hammer. There is a thing called a grip safety on the actual 1911 design which should keep it from firing unless it is gripped in the hand. A few modern interpretations of the platform unfortunately eliminate that feature. And finally, a 1911 can be made unsafe to carry because untrained persons try to improve the trigger with a file and no brains. Back to the OP's topic. Just find one you like and practice with it. It is a proven platform.
  5. I started a thread on C dot C for a fall camp and fish weekend in October, Not many replies and those posted aren't very good. Gotmto thinking, if I tent camp it would be to much work for me. If I rent a cabin at half price for 5 days it would cut deep into my doctor and living bills. Think I'll watch to see if anyone wants a partner for a day trip during that time.
  6. Searched online for brass/stainless steel bore brushes. Found small ones on ebay, 10 for $17. Searched online for nylon bore brushes. Found a set of 10 for $4, got a set of both black and white for $8. Wait for delivery. Son is busy with storm damage so trips there are out for now. Received 55 303 brass casings for $15 plus $8 shipping.
  7. I found an Otis cleaning kit on Amazon. It comes in 14 different sizes, 4 of which claim to fit the 5.56. Ugh, so confused.
  8. Please forgive the incorrect terms, I grew up in MA (not a gun-friendly state). I moved to TN about 3 years ago and love it here. I think there are more guns in my neighborhood than in all of MA. I have a couple of 9mm handguns, a 22 handgun, and I just bought a rifle. All illegal in MA. All this, and I just started shooting in February. The rifle is a Sig M400 DH3 5.56. I've read that my 22 bore snake should be able to go through it. Maybe I'm getting whimpy in my old age, but I cannot pull it through. I looked for a new one, but pretty much all I see say it fits a 223, 556, and 22. Thoughts? Thank you

  10. We moved to Medina from MA about 3 years ago. We're retired and love it here.
  11. I picked up an Sig 1911 last year some time. I did finally get a leather owb for it. It’s hefty with a pair of khaki shorts on. Need to find a IWB for it and I will carry it when it’s warmer out. Definitely a winter carry for me. Jeans and my belt do well for it. Flimsy cotton shorts and no matter the belt I feel that dude holding on.
  12. Welcome from Knoxville - it always good to add more gun and bourbon lovers to the group.
  13. I’ve got a couple Yaesus portables, but have been kinda lusting after the Kenwood TH-D75A lately.
  14. He is just about maybe thirty minutes from you.
  15. New guy trying to stir the pot. I've carried 1911s for about 40 years. Ain't dropped one yet.
  16. Has anyone been putting up any hay it has rained here everyday maybe this weekend temperatures in 90s and no rain hopefully
  17. 1911 most are large and not very fun to carry around all day but I found a small 1911 I can carry around a Sig 938 love it for a summer gun
