  1. Past hour
  2. 63 is plenty young to do it. I did it at 51 on the right side and it went great. Now I’m 53 and so far so good on the left, but it’s still early. My dr. said his average victim is 60. If you saw how I tore my left one back in December, you’d definitely laugh at me.
  3. That's exactly how my daddy taught me to cook groundhogs.
  4. Well now that you have said something. Soak them in vinger and water for a few hours. Par boil till tender, then bake in BBQ sauce.
  5. CNN and MSNBC are still pushing class warfare and people are clearly still falling for it.
  6. I expected someone to say "you just ain't had 'em cooked right" by now.
  7. Sorry, not funny about the shoulder bud, I was laughing that you'd think I'd need a ride. I refuse to have that surgery at my age, one of the nursing techs at my doctor's office had it and I'm not going through that.
  8. I don't believe even that would help me with the RIA. Getting a proper grip and reaching the trigger on that particular piece are not going to happen. I have a PT111 G2 as well as earlier Taurus pistols in .45. The heavy sandpaper like texture on the G2 would be great on the 45s. I'll find something that will work for me when I get to the point of being serious about it. I have some other wants that are ahead of the 10 for now. But then again, the G2 was an impulse buy. It is in great shape and the price I couldn't pass up.
  9. Today
  10. Oh I am not saying it won't happen to me or that it will happen within the average statistics. I'm saying we can't walk around with a heavy load of bang nor can we prep for every situation. I personally let myself get to close to a thug who pulled a knife. I was counting steps backward and put my hand on my pistol, I was at 2 1/2 when someone with a cool head called him back. At three the boy's day would have ended very badly. And at 63 with the physical issues I have I'm not letting any possible threat get that close.
  11. I think he meant he was NOT taught that.
  12. Whoops.
  13. Nope I shoot left handed and just had rotator cuff surgery on my left shoulder BUT I would win that bet shooting weak hand only. papa61, bring your car title. I’ll even give you a ride home.
  14. Yesterday
  15. You did well on Yaesu's. I have both of those Yaesu's and they are excellent radios. I have my FT3DR with me all the time. I use RT Systems to program them and all my other radios. Easy to copy and paste from radio to radio. I use Chirp software to program Baofengs. Many use it to program other radios but it doesn't always play well with others and there are reports of it bricking Yaesu's etc. No personal experience on that.
  16. That's a helluva story, buddy. No doubt the gun you were carrying was your salvation. I live out in the country on a horse farm but the same thing could happen anywhere. You sure were lucky and I don't doubt that you now carry even at home. Great lesson to be learned. Oh, and I am late sixties and I never was taught not to call 911.
  17. Folks... Ya would be surprised what can happen in the blink of an eye while ya are minding your own business. About a year ago, I had a dust up with an idiot who thought I had taken a photo of one of his kids in a public setting ( I didn't). He threatened to drag me out of my vehicle and beat me to death. I calmly advised him that if he tried; bad things would happen, and he met my trusty little friend from SIG... Luckily he retreated and called the police... They dismissed him n told him to go on home. Yes, there are idiots n thugs out there that think slapping old geezers around is ok. They sometimes come out of nowhere. Us geezers look to be relatively easy targets. Some of us ain't. leroy...
  18. Grip on a 10mm is everything. I have large hands but still like to add Talon grip wraps on mine. They make a version that is like a very light sandpaper and it is wonderful for 10mm to lock that grip into your hand. No slippage whatsoever.
  19. Not trying to be argumentative or sarcastic here guys. Quote (papa61) If I play the odds, odds are I will never encounter a situation where I need a firearm. If I do, odds are it will be within ten feet and over in three shots. I had been going to the mailbox safely for 30 years prior to my incident. I never expected to run into 3 crack heads (????) while going to the mailbox that day pappa. But I did. If I had known I would have stayed in the house and stretched my knee. I only had 7 on board in my 357 so I would have needed to put them where they would count against 3 attackers. Made me stop and think do I have enough on board???? Tell you the truth, that is why I purchased the Bodyguard 380 as weak side backup when we go RVing. One is really out there when stopping for fuel. Diesel is, most times, always on the ends of the pump islands and as far away as they can be from the office/stop and rob.
  20. We need to have a TGO showdown. A friendly shootenanny to slap leather and throw down.
  21. Other Trades are also possibly considered just PM what you got
  22. Move along, nothing to see here. If things didn't get heated over caliber it's all good. I'd be more worried if deerslayer didn't have the confidence to challenge the speed shooting. Hey @deerslayer, your last name isn't Miculek is it?
  23. Well, I’m probably getting way ahead of myself but I have acquired two Yaesu radios in addition to my several Baofengs, LOL. I had a Yaesu VX-5R, an older radio but supposed to be a good triband, I think. Yesterday I got a great deal on a Yaesu FTD3DR dual band from an older lady who had bought it for her husband. It’s brand spanking new, and came out of the box when I got it. Played with them both some today as far as programming, scanning channels, etc, and I see that there will be a huge learning curve. Although I want to learn how to program from the radio, I want to also get programming software. For my Baofengs, I ordered a cheap Bluetooth device that allows me to use an app on my phone to program. I’ll be trying that out when I get it. I really need to get a mobile that I can use as a mobile and base station. But Right now, though, I need to concentrate on studying to get my license. I put off getting my license for years because of the code requirement, and now that they took that out for technician, I have discovered that, now when i have time for this hobby, for some reason, crap doesn’t stick with me as much when I read as it used to. But I’m determined to get at least my technician if not the next one up. And to top,it all, my diving into radio has rekindled my scanning attraction as well. I dug out all my shortwave and scanner radios and am making myself a little ham shack. In my office area. I know many departments and agencies have encrypted transmissions, but hoping there are enough that are not keep me interested, LOL. And I was worried about being bored in my retirement. More to follow…
