“I am for doing good to the poor, but...I think the best way of doing good to the poor, is not making them easy in poverty, but leading or driving them out of it. I observed...that the more public provisions were made for the poor, the less they provided for themselves, and of course became poorer. And, on the contrary, the less was done for them, the more they did for themselves, and became richer.†― Benjamin Franklin2 points

I don't mind taking care of the truly poor, the proverbial widows and orphans. There are however, too many strap-hangers and lay-abouts that make a mess of charity. I don't mind feeding the birds, but I draw the line at squirrels. There are all together too many squirrels in the birdfeeders . . . The big trick is how to keep the squirrels out of the birdfeeders.1 point

There's more than that. Elinor Donahue is still alive. I don't know why in the heck they ever got rid of her. She was an absolutely beautiful little gal. Ellie Walker was prettier and had a better job [pharmacist] then Helen Crump. What was Andy thinking??? Never did like Helen.1 point

Different countries have different definitions for what is provided by the government as part of 'healthcare'. Many countries will pay for simple types of activities that can be done by a local doctor. Generally, the more specialized, difficult, or expensive activities are heavily restricted or not covered by the government unless you are part of teh political ruling class. In fact, there are very few countries which will provide the average person the quality and level of coverage that is covered by a basic health insurance policy in the US. There are more doctors each month that are refusing to take Medicare and Medicaid patients. Expect that trend to accelerate. Eventually, the Feds will make it mandatory for doctors to take those patients. At that point, we can expect to see a lot of drop-outs from the medical field who decide it just isn't worth being a doctor any longer. Fewer doctors plus 'free' care plus government regulation is simple formula leading to lower quality and very long waiting lines.1 point

Look at the video newschannel 5 did on "ghost voting". You'll see that 1) half those legislators are routinely not there & 2) beth harwell is like a pet rock. Sent from my SPH-D700 using Tapatalk 21 point

We are ordered to show papers for everything we do. Producing a document during a enforcement stop of some type is not anything that will interfere with it. Besides, my wife was told by USCIS that she has to carry proof of her immigration status at all times so it's sort of silly to allow illegal immigrants to get away with it, and legal immigrants be forced to carry them. Great thing about states is if you don't agree with one of their laws, you don't have to go into that state - This is why I will never be in California for any reason other than to transfer planes.1 point

It looks to cocked, which is the state it should be in having been removed from the rifle. Now turn the safety lever straight up. This is called the bolt disassembly position. Looking at the rear left side of the bolt, you will see the bolt sleeve lock plunger sticking out of the bolt sleeve. You need to push this in (aft) and unscrew the bolt sleeve in a counterclockwise direction. You will then have the bolt body in one hand, and the bolt sleeve/firing pin assembly in the other. Most Mauser models have a bolt disassembly washer in the buttstock or a hole in the buttplate, if your rifle does not you can use a plain hardwood block to continue the disassembly. Rest the firing pin tip (called the striker) on the wooden block, straight up and down. Hold the bolt sleeve in your right hand, with your thumb on top of the safety lever. CAUTION: We are dealing with spring pressure here, keep your face out of the way! Push the bolt sleeve down firmly, compressing the firing pin spring until all the coils touch each other. Now the cocking piece will be exposed at the top of the firing pin, turn it ¼ turn in either direction, and slide it off the firing pin. Your right hand and thumb will still be holding the bolt sleeve down, be careful and release the spring pressure slowly, and then you will be able to remove the bolt sleeve assembly from the firing pin. Again - - - BE CAREFUL! The spring will be under pressure as you take the bolt apart. Here is a link to a quick You Tube video.1 point

Greg, No one is blaming you. If you need Sudafed you may be inconvenienced, I don’t know. I don’t know how hard is for you to get. Every Police Agency will handle it in their own way based on the resources they have available. I doubt you will care much for my ideas because they involve targeting drug dealers and makers with extreme prejudice. I don’t think people should be arrested based on how many times their name is on that list; that list should be used to identify offenders. As I said earlier, once a drug dealer is identified (as with any crime) it just requires good Police work to catch them with the product in their possession so you can send them to prison. The vehicle code is the #1 tool in that fight. I took them down on traffic stops, legally searched their cars, and took them jail. Some departments don’t have the manpower to do that, some departments are so busy they go from one call to next and don’t have the opportunity to do that. However, if you could make any drug disappear tomorrow, would the users quit? No, they would switch their drug of choice. If the new drug cots more what happens? Well, then they need to steal more of your stuff, burglarizes more homes or commit more robberies. Some say make drugs legal. That’s fine, are you going to make them free also? They are committing the crimes to get money to buy the drugs. Unless you are making them free, the only thing legalizing drugs does is to create a new industry and adds to the tax base. What good has that done for the user? Now you have added in a bunch of middlemen and FDA rules and regulations. The user will be paying as much or more and he will still be going to jail when he gets caught with the stuff he stole from you to buy his now legal drugs. So who really wants drugs legalized? The guy that has a good job and wants to smoke a bowl every now and then without having to worry about being arrested or lose his good job. He’s hasn’t stop to think that he might not get arrested but he will still lose his job when he can’t pass a piss test. Proactive Police work will help the problem, but the real culprit is still the economy.1 point

Been a few days since I had one apart, but I remember putting the cocking piece against my workbench and pulling it back far enough to expose a slot in which I stick a penny. This keeps it in the cocked position, and makes for easier reassembly as I recall. You just unscrew it.1 point

Don, and Dave did do it primitive style. Everyone else used what they had. I slept on an old army sleeping bag cause I dont have a bedroll. The bills themselves are dead; however, the issue certainly is NOT dead. That said, if the current leadership stays in place (Haslam, Ramsey, Harwell and Maggart) then there is probably less chance for ANY firearm friendly legislation coming out of the Tennessee Executive or legislative branch anytime soon. What is likely our best chance of getting any improvement with regards to restoration of our 2A rights (whether the safe commute issue or anything else such as constitutional carry, improvements to the HCP process, etc) is to unseat Marggart with Lt Col Rodgers...if Rodgers can replace Maggart as the Republican nominee in district 45 it will have a significant impact on the legislature not just because Courtney is very pro-2A but also because it will show the strength (or lack of it) of the firearms community in Tennessee since both the NRA and the TFA have targeted Maggart for defeat. Maggart, if you remember, has always touted her support for the 2A but this past session, she blocked the bills from coming to the floor for a vote even though the bills had successfully passed every hurdle necessary to get there and even with opponents to the bills wanting them put to floor for a vote. She and the leadership didn't want to have to vote on the bills because they knew a "no" vote would show their true support (i.e. lack of it) to the firearms community while a "yes" vote would piss off the big corporations who's campaign donations they were wanting for their re-election campaigns.1 point

Hero Gear signs says (or words to that effect): "HCP Carriers Welcome Please keep weapon holstered. All others please clear your weapon outside." Seems a reasonable approach to me and clear as to the shop's intention--welcoming, respectful, and safe.1 point
-
The small amount of money (over 200 dollars) that you and I spend on training and HCPs, is nothing close to the 2 mil that the shop owner may have to pay in court settlements and lawyer fee's if another customer is accidently shot by some yoyo! "Postings" are there for reasons. The word "Legal" is NOT spelled "S-M-A-R-T". I think a "mental evaluation" should be a part of the HCP process. I only say that because I've met a few folks who were "Legal", but the jelly done fell off their peanut butter sandwich! Another way to look at it is, unless the shop owner knows you, how does he or she know that you are "legal", and not just another punk with a gun? (take no offense)...So before we all start hoot'n and holler'n about rights and "proper signage"....just take a moment and put yourself into the business owners shoes. Better yet, go to your local gunshop and "Volunteer" to help out for the day. Sweep floors, wait on customers, "show" guns to customers, deal with the day to day doings with a gun shop (or any business for that matter). Please report back to all of us on how many "gun barrels" got pointed at your face because someone doesn't know "gun safety"....let us know about the guy standing over on the holster isle waving a loaded handgun around trying to find the "right" pancake. Also let us know how many times you have to push a "legal" handgun away from your face, when the occassional customer has a question about his "glow in the dark" sights. Need I keep going? Your "other" customers will appreciate your efforts in keeping them "safe" in your store.... Dave1 point
-
I don’t even work in a gun store, but I have seen some pretty ignorant stuff. The people that work in them must see it all the time. There is no reason to unholster a loaded weapon inside a store. If you want to try a holster or you need work on your gun, you either go outside and clear it, or you clear it before you bring it in. That’s common sense isn’t it?1 point

Looking at it as a former cop, my feeling is that Meth is a huge problem. It is so rampant that if a cop wants to bust drug makers and dealers he won’t have to worry about busting people with the contents to make it; identify them for a later bust. At 3am walking around behind a church meeting up with someone else, carrying the supplies for meth, you either have a cooker or someone selling the ingredients. It might be a case you could win in court; but not the kind of case I would want. I would tell him I’ve identified him as being involved in drugs and that I’m going to eventually bust him; then I would let him go. He has had his warning. Later when he’s set-up for a buy/sale from a UC; he busted. Long term solution? Jobs. Our economy is collapsing and this problem is only going to get worse. We are going to need more cops, but eventually there won’t be money to pay them. Family values & morals. Too many parents don’t know what their kids are doing, don’t care, or don’t handle it properly when they are made aware. It’s tough to help those kids. Short term? Build more prisons and keep them in prison longer. But again, it will become hard to find money for that.1 point

We have a rather large stockpile of silver, not to make money from but for a shtf situation. Buy it as long as it's under $35 total (most places charge spot price + $2/bar), once it goes over we hold off until it falls again. Too many people are doing these investments in metals with their retirement and that is retarded.. It's just as risky as having a 401 invested into currency.1 point
