What pistols would you add to this collection?(Light topic, for fun only)
Moped replied to espacef1fan's topic in Handguns
Assuming money is not a big issue, I would add a RugerMark II or III.22 automatic (I own one) a .38 or .357 double action revolver (Colt, S&W or Ruger) and a Ruger Blawkhawk Convertible in .357/9mm (I also have one of these and it's a fun pistol to shoot!!!). BTW, I own one of those little Taurus PT111 Millenium G2 and it's a dandy! It goes everywhere I go. Just picked up a third mag for it. That actually hurt a bit. Couldn't find one cheap. Still love this little pistol! -
Guess I will be the stick in the mud and tell you that Hi-Point Carbines are fun little rifles. I wouldn't mind having another one at all. It's really a poor man's AR. You can do a ton of mods to them. Mine ran like a champ too, as long as I ran Hi-Point mags in it. The extended Pro-mags sucked. Now that I got that off my chest. By cheap, it sounds like you are looking for something under $400. I would recommend an older Marlin 30/30 lever action, a Ruger American in .308 or 30-06 or a Savage with the accu-trigger in .308 or 30-06. If you could go another $100 and are adventerous and know someone with experince in putting one together, then go get an AR kit and put one together.

All of them. I had a Norinco 1911 stolen in a burgerly about 10 years back, that I wish I had back. It was a great pistol.

Single action revolvers for carry purposes?
Moped replied to suspiciousmind's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
When in the woods, I like a single action (Ruger Blackhawk Convertible in .357/9mm with a 4.5" barrel). They are way too heavy for concealed carry though. I don't like walking around pulling my pants up ever 2 minutes. -
I'd try polishing the feed ramp. Most low end .45s are really designed to run ball ammunition (Just like John Moses designed the original 1911 to do :) ). Then follow Mik3 .357's advice about oils and grease. It could be the mags, but these things used to run on cheap mags. After all, when John Moses Browning created the ultimate handgun, Wilson's momma and daddy weren't even thought about. :)

In Fountain City (North Knoxville) the streets and sidewalks are starting to sleet over. It's coming down pretty good now.

Honestly on the FB sites I belong to, I've not seen one for less than $550. I got really lucky with my deal. A guy at work mentioned he was going to sell his. I asked him what he wanted and he said without thinking $350 and with no hesitation I said, I will take it. Left work and went to the bank immediately and came back and gave it to him. He brought the pistol to me the next day. He told me later that he really meant to ask $550, but a deal was a deal, and he wouldn't go back on it. Pretty stand up in my book. I gave him 200 rounds of 45acp at a match we were shooting in, the next saturday, just to ease his pain a bit.

You mentioned a Browning Hi-Power. I had one once. It was stolen by some POS about 10 years ago. Finest pistol I ever owned. I want another one at some point in time. If you have the money, you will not regret the purchase!

The only problem with going with a GI is once you start wanting to sup it up a little, that front site is going to be a problem, because it's part of the slide. I would go with the RIA Target, which comes with a front sight that is removable. That way you have a good basic pistol that you can modify up to what you think you like later on. There are lots of modifications you can do to a 1911. I will say that RIA GI looks just like the original! That's a nice liking pistol!

Or you could shop around and pick up something like this. It's a Springfield Armory Mil Spec with adjustable sights, a just a hair over 4lb trigger job and an ambidextrous safety. I got the pistol, 1 mag and the plastic case for $350?

There was a bushmaster in that video? I didn't notice...

I think most everyone in Knoxville gets their reloading supplies from either the internet or David at the gun shows. No really a good place around here to find reloading supplies.

Maybe one of these days I will try one out. Might very well change my opinion of the pistol.

I've never owned one, but I've looked at them from time to time. The thing that has always stopped me from buying one, is the height of the slide. There isn't a lot to grab onto when pulling it back. It's always been a deal killer for me. I have a friend that has had one for over 20 years and he swears by it.

Yeah, that was the one where Penny got drunk at the end and Howard got lucky. All because they pointed out how dumb Zack was. It's a classic! :)

Harvey's Pistol and Loan in Knoxville, is selling ATI Omni Hybrids for $489.99. That is the lowest I've seen an AR in a long time. I have no idea about the quality of the rifle, though. But the bottom has obviously dropped out of the AR market. If you want one, now is definitely a good time to buy one, before the next Obama Manufactured Gun Crisis.

I have bought several things from there so far. My lastest purchase was Tilley Winter Hat, which I love! I too am an REI member and enjoy several perks that non REI members enjoy. Their online outlet specials are killer! I do wish they would start selling the Mountainsmith Lumber Day Pack. I'm wanting one of those bad and I got a $100 gift card just waiting on that item!!!

That's all I have on both my AR's. Scopes and break and and red dot sights the battery can go down. Iron sights never fail.

It's on Kindle.

This is a bit different, but I read Free Falling (The Irish End Games Series) by Susan Kiernan-Lewis. Basically a family goes to Ireland for vacation when someone attacks all the major cities in the Western Hemisphere and they are trapped there.

If he sales that Hi-Point for $750, I'm going to invest in one, plus 6 magazines and try it myself!!! If I don't sell it, I'll just keep it and shoot it!!!
