  1. OK....that got real weird real fast But welcome aboard and at least you know what you just got into. That was a "class act" Red, I tip my hat to you sir.
  2. I used 5 motion activated driveway sensors programmed to one receiver. They are placed in select locations around the property with different alert tones so I know which way to look. Critters don't really cause any problems with false alerts. They have been very effective.
  3. I'm in the same boat...I've been "Social Distancing" long before it was ever a thing.
  4. I wish I could post pictures but I had two (Twins) Browning Hi-Power Practicals. One in 9mm and one in .40. They were beautiful weapons and functioned without fail. I sold them a few years back simply because the brunt of my training was with da/sa design weapons and I was more comfortable with that format. I wish I had kept them though.
  5. I was thinking about getting a Heritage but opted for the EAA Bounty Hunter with the extra .22 mag cylinder. It was similar in size to my .357 single actions and would readily fit my holsters. I have been very pleased with it so far. I may get a Wrangler, just because.
  6. I have a fund raising letter from the TSA laying on the table just waiting for me to send a check. Considering the fact I am a retired LEO I was planning on doing so. This just saved me some money. I will do something direct to benefit my locals. Through my career I found that the higher one is in the command chain of Law Enforcement, the more they tend to follow the direction of the political winds. I would venture to say that a large number, if not the majority, of the sheriffs do not personally support this position. Especially if they came up through the ranks. However, the those making money sitting in the offices of the TSA rubbing elbows with politicians tend to get dirty elbows.
  7. I may have dodged the bullet here. I just bought tires a couple months ago and it was a toss up between the Cooper ATs and Falken Wild Peaks. I went with the Falkens and have been very pleased...more so now.
  8. I have two dual fuel 5500 generators. I have never put gas in either of them. I have only used propane to avoid gumming up the fuel lines, but I do have the gas option. I wired my breaker panel with an interlock for separation from the system. I Have and outside plug on a covered porch to plug the generator supply into which, after separation from the standard utilities supply, I can power my existing breaker panel and direct power supply via the breakers. I have a chart posted for which breakers to have on and which to have off when on generator. I have gas heat, stove and water heater. It has served me well and 5500 is sufficient to power everything we need except the A/C. I don't care about the A/C, All it has to do for the heat is the furnace fan which is no problem. It has worked very well. I don't recommend using a microwave though.
  9. Someone with more knowledge than I may give better, more accurate, info. Many reasonably modern heat pumps will automatically switch to supplement with electric heat strips "emergency heat" if the temps drop below a certain point. You can manually switch most thermostats to electric heat strip "emergency heat" if your compressor fails, or your heat pump just cannot keep you warm etc. Just bear in mind that the heat strips cause your electric meter to spin like a gas pump dial during the Obama era. When I had a heat pump I never really "felt" warm yet the house was ok. I have had gas heat for the last 20 years and won't go back unless I am forced to.
  10. I don't care who you are, that's funny right there.
  11. I grew up wearing boot cut Wranglers until my physiological geography shifted in my 40s. I switched to Wrangler Carpenter jeans and pick up a pair whenever I catch a pair on a really good sale and add them to the stack. I have a garage / yard stack and a wear away from the house stack.
  12. Coffee cans, lots and lots of coffee cans.
  13. Done.
  14. If/when the paper dollar bill is only good for lighting a fire, ammunition will be worth its' weight in gold. It never hurts to have an emergency fund and ammo is far cheaper to acquire than gold right now.
  15. Decided to organize a few things to help in the event of my unexpected demise. Used a 3-ring binder with tabs to for insurances, accounts/passwords/contact numbers etc., SSI info, list of high value items the family might sell for a dollar at a yard sale if they didn't know better, locations of stuff no one knows about, and a Word Table inventory of all weapons with current values. Those with sentimental value are indicated in the event it matters. I included a short list of contacts that I trust to aid the family in marketing if needed. This is kept in the vault.
  16. There is an old saying, "A small price to pay for freedom"...somehow I don't think this is what it was originally referring to.
  17. Years ago I was with Morgan Stanley / Dean Witter. I was not pleased and moved to a broker with Edward Jones. In both cases it seemed they made more off of my money than I did. When "things were slow" they still got paid and things always seemed to be slow. I left the "professionals and have done far better on my own since.
  18. Welcome to the TGO Den of Thieves. It will be a rapidly growing membership through this standard when you consider the number of members who own "AR/AK etc. pistols" with brace who in some eyes circumvents the "fee". Mind you, I have no problem paying a fee to post an item for sale on any media/social media platform. I do have an issue paying a fee in order to have the ability to send emails that go unanswered or spend my money, especially when the platform does not hold the inventory. I pay my fees here at TGO as I do other places and try to follow TGO rules as agreed, to include not calling other members names or calling their integrity into question if I post a disagreement with their position. I respect that the duties of an Administrator requires much effort, time and yes expense in order to maintain a site to the high standard that TGO operates. The standard by which TGO generally operates is why it is the only firearms board I participate in.
  19. Ditto.
  20. I just purchased a Sig P229 Legion this weekend off of Armslist. The seller posted a phone number in the ad for text or call purposes. Had he not done that I would not have bought the weapon for I was not willing to pay a fee in order to use the "Contact Seller" Armslist contact method. Too many times I have had sellers simply not reply via this method of contact.
  21. I was a frequent flyer with CTD in the early years, 90's, but I have not and will not spend a penny with them due to the gouging.
  22. True. I have had screws and bolts come out when pre-drilling a hole with a counter-clockwise bit preparing for extractor use.
  23. I realize you have moved past the problem, but I just saw this and in reading the suggestions I did not see one that has proven useful for me in the past. Get a proper sized "left handed drill bit", not a joke, the drill bit cuts when turning counterclockwise as opposed to clockwise. When drilling the screw the friction heats the screw and I have had the screw come out while drilling. Just shared to add another option for future uh-ohs.
  24. Thanks, but we figured it was the least we could do considering how hard the old guy was trying to make ends meet and how committed he was to his "responsibilities". I still admire how concerned he was about the possibility of not meeting his responsibility to others rather than his personal loss. The lesson he taught us was far more valuable than the cost of a used engine.
  25. So many years back, one summer night about 0300 I was patrolling a roadside park on the outskirts of town that was known for elicit activities. My windows were down and I heard a car wound tight coming down the highway by the park headed towards town. I grabbed my handheld radar and caught his speed as he approached at 118mph in a 45 zone. The car went by and I pulled out to pursue yet waited to turn on blues or siren until I could get closer. He kept up his pace and I had to call on all that Plymouth would give me. As I got within about 200 yards of the speeder I hit my blues about the same time a large cloud of smoke came out of the speeding car. The car coasted to a stop on the shoulder of the road and I pulled in behind. As I approached the car I saw and smelled a large pool of oil flowing out from under the front of the vehicle. He had obviously grenaded his engine on his old Oldsmobile. I contacted the driver who was a polite elderly gent who was somewhat distraught. When I asked why he was doing 118 in a 45 he stated that "I'm on my way to Hardee's to make the biscuits. I overslept and if I don't get there nobody knows how to make the biscuits and there won't be no biscuits." I asked if the biscuits were worth the cost of his engine. He said, " I took this job to supplement my SSI and it looks like I failed on both counts". I asked what he meant by both counts and he said he failed at the job and supplementing his income. So, I did the only thing I could do, I gave him a ride to Hardees so he could make the biscuits, code 2.5 for effect. I called a wrecker to take his car to a shop of a friend of mine who after hearing the story agreed to replace the engine with a used one without labor cost and he and I shared the cost of replacement. That gentleman made the biscuits at Hardees for 6 more years before he passed unexpectedly.
