  1. You just about covered it. T/C chambers in the Encore also. All are good. Freedom Arms makes the finest product - Period. I know I am biased, but I would go with the SRH simply because of the heft and the scope mounts. Put a red dot on the top and you have a great bear/pig thumper. The loss in .45 accuracy is barely even measurable. 454 casull is not very fun to shoot. If you are using a SRH and reload you can actually make some pretty hard hitting 45 cold loads. Enough to where you won't want anything heavier. FYI - believe it or not....Magnum Research and Freedom Arms both use Pinetree castings for many of their parts. Guess who Pinetree Casting's sister company is?
  2. If you are a reloader....Both are reloader's cartridges otherwise you won't be able to afford shooting them. That being the case you get what you have dies, powder, and bullets for. They can both cover the gamut from 600fps target loads to 300+ grain sledgehammers. Both are very versatile to the point of sameness.
  3. Hamilton Bowen is the best revolver smith in the world these days. Not kidding at all...the best. Be prepared to pay for it though. Would help if we know what you were looking to do.
  4. Aside from the guns...I tend to like the people who shoot revolvers more than the semi-auto diehards.
  5. Yup...good old j-frame is on a great many lists as the go-to backup
  6. I have seen a die set that was actually used to crack black walnuts. Not sure if it was a 1 off set, or it was offered by the die makers, but it was origionally made to husk brazil nuts from their outer hull (which is kinda like a small coconut/Hickory nut). I do know it made splitting those husks much easier. The guy who posted that ad is a nut.
  7. I have a single six and bearcat revolver as beater pistols....both with untold tens of thousands (yes tens) of dirty, crappy ammo though them and they have been beat up, ridden hard and cleaned only with wipedowns. One of them was used as a hammer by the person carrying it at the time. No kidding there is so much crud on one of them that it looked like I scraped the bottom of a grill with it. They haven't even thought of malfunctioning yet. I could say the very same thing about any other of the heard of revolvers in my safe if I ever chose to abuse them. Just as the failures of semi-autos are overblown. Unless you are shooting a crappy revolver - they hardly, if ever fail....ever
  8. Only in the gun industry could this level of C.S be accepted. Fortunately some new business people in Chattanooga have seen the light and opened some good shops in the past couple of years and I don't have to deal with crap like this when I am looking to drop a load of cash at someone's place of business.
  9. Contrarian is an adjective in this context. Referring to your previous post...it means basically "This is gonna stir up some stink" It is not name calling. "Troll" would be name calling. Not contrarian. There is a difference.
  10. Slow friday huh? There is a difference in what one person hates vs.what is generally panned. the 10/22 if far from the bottom of anyone's list who has generally owned a large amount of firearms. I have never seen one that wouldn't do 1" at 50 yards or better. However reality isn't very relevant for some. I believe the proper description of such a person is...contrarian
  11. 20mm black Sorry - I was quoting my 03ffl discount price. It looks like they jumped them up to $150 They are the best without question. Would actually trust it more than an eotec or acog for my hunting pistols
  12. I know I sound like a broken record, but Ultra-Dot is easily the best when you consider product and warranty. Right up there with dillon and leupold in both quality and service. FWIW...If you are looking for durable many competition shooters have them mounted directly on the slides of their pistols. Think about that for a minute....$125 isn't a bad price either.
  13. Kentucky, but I warn you that it will be really, really expensive. Market has been crazy of late but has come down a bit in the past two weeks.
  14. Sig 210...in the shoebox at the little old lady's yard sale
  15. Springfield Model 87a is my vote. - It is overly complicated - Has a very awkward firing action (also known as a klick-clack gun)almost an open bolt action, but not quite - Has "gills" on the left side that serve no purpose other than to spew filthy burnt powder all in your face - Is difficult to lock open without a very strong hand - Tube magazine has feed lips that are made from paper clip wire that are VERY sensitive to bending. Once out of place they cause the gun to malfunction - Just about the butt ugliest gun ever made Did I miss anything? Oh yeah. - It tends to machine gun slam fire if the firing pin gets dirty...which usually happens after 100 rounds. And will say it again....it is really ugly.
  16. Can somewhat relate to this Have ridden hard over the past quarter century. Tens of thousands of miles. Organized several large events and have been among the most outspoken advocates bicycling in my area. Can't deny however that in the group of 20 or so friends that have shared the road with me that more than half have had some very serious injuries due to "sharing the road" But then again, unlike advocates mentioned above, anyone can feel free to figure out this on their own. It certainly isn't my place to stop them. ################################################################### Bottom line here is that if you ride long enough you will eventually have an encounter with another moving vehicle. 1 year/5 years/10 years/25 years something awry will eventually happen. Remember that when you are on public roads you put your faith in the hands of other drivers to also follow the rules and pay attention. You can reduce the risk by picking low volume roads, riding only during the day, and having a couple of friends with you to increase your visibility. However when something wrong happens when you are on a bicycle....you lose every time. Now, with a family that depends on my health to provide for them, it is simply not worth the risk exposing myself to the mercy of others on the road knowing that anything that happens...I lose....even once...every time. ################################################################### Why is this controversial? Why has this gone on for 11 pages? It isn't about bicycles any more, but about how one persons tiny weenus happens to be 2mm longer than everyone else's
  17. I don't think that anyone makes one for the short barrels anymore. There were some aftermarket ones for the MK in the 80's but after they started tapping the recieivers in the mid 90's I haven't seen one. The front sight is pinned and it has to be really tall for it to work in your gun. The ones for the 6 7/8" barrel may fit, but they will be too short to hit poa.
  18. Yup...I load 45/70 for not much more than 9mm since I cast my own and already have the brass.
  19. Speaking as a lawyer...You have every right to be out on the road with your bicycle. Speaking as a statistician...You have no business being out on the road with your bicycle. That about sums it up - no? 8 pages of self important, soapbox standing, phallus waiving, pointless banter and this seems to be what it boils down to. But then again someone is wrong on the internet...heaven forbid. Jeez louise I feel sorry for the spouses of the folks here.
  20. I have owned one of the carbines....despite their internet reputation the rifle wasn't all that bad and would be perfect for raccoon hunting or ever a cheap self defense carbine. I only put 4-500 rounds though it before I sold it, but it never jammed and was really fun to shoot.
  21. Give it a shot yourself...45acp and 38/357 are the easiest thing in the world to load for. Very rewarding and profoundly simple. It really, really (I mean really) expands one's understanding of what marksmanship is all about. There is nobody who will reload for you....it is taboo despite most reloaded ammo having a better track record than many factory loads. HOWEVER - I'll bet that every single reloader on this site will have no problem with you coming over and loading a batch of ammo with them.
  22. The neos does have one of the best factory sets of iron sights on a pistol....they are about perfect in size and proportion. Still a fan of the MK..
  23. Take off the grips, drop the gun in kerosene, wait, remove, blow out with compressed air, enjoy. This works well for the MK series too.
  24. By golly....that is the way to do it right there. Sure beats saran wrap and elastic bands!!!!
