I don't think that we should be surprised at all.

My best friend works at the VA, (no, he's not the stereotypical federal employee), and he tells me what goes on there. I don't see how this shutdown will effect anything since they work at a snail's pace anyways. They just have so-called justification to do so now.

I hope that they do this. Kind of hard for media to spin something like this, IMHO.

Actually, when they had the anti's boycotting Starbucks for a day, (LOL!), I made it a point to stop by, lay down $34 for latte's and crap we didn't need, and tell the staff exactly that I was there to support them. I had my handgun tucked safely out of sight.

I have followed many of the pages and plainly stated how I feel, but I'll reiterate some. They are a business who can welcome me and my money all they want too since we are a capitalist society. What I won't participate in is their welcoming of my money but not my legally carried concealed weapon. I do NOT agree with the OC groups that have pushed the company to do this. In today's environment I would want someone patronizing my business with a long gun either, but they clearly stated that guns, whether OC or concealed, are NOT welcomed in their establishment. No, I will NOT disarm for a latte. I'll give my money to someone else.

Yes, that's the line that many seem to have missed. They are stating that your gun, either open or concealed, is NOT welcome in their place of business.

The message was repeated this morning on Fox which I saw already. Guns not welcomed in the store means all guns open and concealed. I got that they are asking nicely enough and not "properly" posting as a policy for wiggle room. I don't care about the strengh of their message because the meaning is clear...at least as far as I'm concerned.

As expected, many in this thread want to comment on their personal taste in coffee, or lack of taste for coffee, so that it doesn't matter to them what Starbucks does, and this misses the fundamental point. Starbucks' official policy is now publicly stated that they want your money; not you. It DOES effect you because other large companies will be watching the consequences of this action before deciding on THEIR course of action. They are defacto against legal activity with this policy. They could have said that we ban open carry in our stores - which to me is reasonable because it clearly disturbs a large portion of their customer base - but that's not what they're saying. They are saying that only guns carried by law enforcement are welcomed, and that my concealed weapon is not welcomed - which is NOT disturbing to their customer base and NOT reasonable, IMHO. This is why they'll no longer get any of my money. I don't care if they are trying to appease anyone on both sides of the problem.
