  1. And of course CNN denied it, what are they going to do, reveal their playbook?
  2. I have two 1911s, but none have the round count of my 9mm or .40 calibers. I don't get the appeal, at least not for carry, they are large, heavy and have a low magazine capacity. And to top it all off, they kick enough to bring you off your target where you have to force it back down. Don't take this as me hating them, I don't, but since the military I have not carried a 1911, range only. My Kimber has a great trigger, and I can put steel on target with it so would have no issue using it for SD purposes if I had to, it's just not my go-to EDC.
  3. Yea, I think another piece of the cake can be sacrificed How about we start talks about upping the age cell phones (a privilege) can be purchased, and to get a drivers licence, (yup, a privilege as well)? We lose more young people to distracted driving due to cell phones than we do to shootings!
  4. Yea, I wish they were wrong about this duffus as well though. I guess checking their facts is a lost art in the journalism field.
  5. So this guy just does not get what side his bread is buttered on, he owns a company that sells drum magazines but thinks that gun ownership is a privileged that you have to jump through hoops to get. Something tells me he is going to see diminished sales going forward; and the worst part is that it is a TN company. http://soldiersystems.net/2018/02/20/x-products-owner-james-malarkey-thinks-the-magazines-he-sells-should-be-restricted-by-law/?utm_source=dlvr.it&utm_medium=facebook
  6. WAPO, nuff said.
  7. I have been researching Adverse Possession, AKA Squatters Rights, and it is difficult to get something like that done in sub-plotted areas now-a-days. It's a 20 year possession or 7 years under the "Color of Title" and it has to be taken to court for it to "take hold". Some try to do it before realizing all that it takes: https://www.newschannel5.com/news/newschannel-5-investigates/no-squatters-rights-in-tennessee
  8. Look, GOA is a good organization, and I do think they may be support the 2A more than the NRA but the NRA is the 500lb gorilla in the political arena, it's just that their more Grape Ape than King Kong many times. The NRA, GOA, or any other pro 2A organization can't stop the ATF from doing anything in the next 30, 60 or even 90 days, it's up to us gun owners to comment when they open it up for comments, as they must before enacting. Just as they backed off the green tip ammo, they will have to take us into consideration if we come together and fight as one.
  9. I agree for the most part, except that LEO is already stretched thin, and it would take a huge tax increase to hire more. This is supposed to be the Volunteer State, why not use volunteers? While LEO do get some training, it is woefully inadequate in most departments, specially when it comes to range time. The training you speak of comes with experience, the actual rules of engagement can be taught in a weekend course. It was the same in the military, most non line units only qualified once a year and hardly ever did any kind of direct contact training, at least not until after 9/11. And if you allow military and LEO volunteers, the learning curve would be much less. Wasn't there a civilian training program already??..yup. http://www.nashville.gov/Police-Department/Get-Involved/Citizen-Police-Academy.aspx
  10. No, this has to be a signal, the $ amount is inconsequential. Which sounds better, "NRA collects 5 million $s in the month prior to the anti-gun rally from members to show support" Or "5 million NRA members send money into the NRA the day of the rally to show their suport" Think there will be more than 5 million at the rally?
  11. A written agreement will be ok, but only while the current owner maintains ownership. The best bet is to move it, it's a permanent solution.
  12. Then have active duty and retired military/LEO folks volunteer, and I would much rather have some kind of armed resistance force out there than have to have them wait for the shooter to get tired and leave or local LEO show up. I would surely be better trained than the average HCP holder, and would be better equipped than most as well. And I would volunteer as much as I could at my granddaughters school if they would let me. In Japan, we (Active Duty parents) were on a roster to escort the school buses to and from school (unarmed), maybe we need to start looking for something of that nature to ensure our kids get as much protection as the politicians do. I bet even .gov softball games have more security nowadays.
  13. Maybe he had some insurance money from his dad or mom's passing?? But yea, that seems a lot of money in that short of time, and at a time when weapons were still at or above the $500 range, at least at a LGS.
  14. I like those, let us know how the attaching points hold up. I just ordered some hangers to hang plates between t-posts, they are fairly easy to setup except the t-posts which will stay put. https://shootingtargets7.com/accessories/target-stands/st7-t-post-hooks.html
  15. Did it have purple hairs? I got stung by one at Ft Bragg years ago.
  16. Plenty: https://www.tennessean.com/story/insession/2015/03/10/haslam-opposes-gun-bills/24717375/ While some bills get passed, many of those bills are just feel good bills which have little impact either way.
  17. My plates are ceramic with a steel core, I've handled them semi roughly but they held out well. The covers do come loose at times, but a quick 2 part epoxy fixes them right up. The soft armor on the other hand can get worn, Kevlar and like fabrics holds up well, but plastic like materials like Dyneema have about a 5 year shelf life, and some tests have shown some don't hold up well to point blank range. If I were shopping for body armor, I would make sure they were either NIJ or the FBI testing compliant. And then I'd keep an eye out for recalls, because there have been a few, and the mfgrs just want to sell so their testing may not be done properly.
  18. The first thing is to get rid of these politicians that block pro gun legislation. There is plenty of factual data about crime stats when it comes to pro gun legislation. But to the left it's an emotional response and no matter what facts are presented they will not listen. And the politicians are only listening to the left because they are more of a solid voting base and vote along political lines. Conservatives are very fragmented, with many things across the political spectrum that are important to them. So unless we put enough pressure on the politicians we will be getting some very anti 2A laws passed.
  19. You would think that with all the destruction hogs do, there would be land owners running ads for free hog hunting all over the place. But everywhere you look, it's hundreds of $ to do even fair chase hog hunting, it's become a big business. Of course there are public areas to hunt, but unless you are a local it would be a hit or miss situation. Of course, we here in TN will get an opportunity soon to have our own local hog hunting if the hog population keeps going as it has in other states. I wonder what TWRA will do once we are overrun?
  20. There are soft body armor panels sized to fit backpacks out there. https://www.washingtonpost.com/news/morning-mix/wp/2017/11/07/florida-school-lets-parents-buy-bulletproof-panels-for-students-to-put-in-backpacks/?utm_term=.2f75d626290f
  21. Text, email, phone, and BOS or no BOS, if I want it I'll use any means of communication the seller wants. Of course I don't deal with any sketchy people so have not been scammed, but, I do take precautionary measures to ensure a safe equitable trade. A simple timestamped picture showing the SN is proof enough of ownership, I take them for insurance purposes. I too keep track of who I do business with, but have only done one BOS. E-mail or text, even PM traffic can be saved to prove the transaction took place.
  22. I heard the tail end of that as well, and was not surprised Haslam opposed it, he seems to be very anti 2A, opposing many gun friendly bills.
  23. No, there is no season on hogs, not really. They can be hunted incidental to hunting other big game, and land owners can hunt the year round. You can hunt only during daytime, and only with the weapons allowed for big game season during the season. Land owners may file for an exception to hunt at night with spotlights, hunt over bait etc., but the normal hunter is pretty limited.
  24. I think you would be better off trying to find a place out in TX or FL if you want to hunt hog on the cheap. I have been discussing hunting laws here in TN lately and mostly it seems that there are a few places to hunt them legally, because you have to be the landowner during non deer seasons, and during deer season it's limited on where you can hunt them.
  25. We had a company accept a contract for a few thousand pairs of shorts, only to subcontract them out of the country. Apparently, they were justified in doing so since they delivered some out of their shop. No hassle unless you want to become a prime vendor, or get a product listed with a National Stock Number (NSN). Most Mid, to Large vendors (and some small) are already authorized vendors through GSA Advantage which you can order small quantities through. The problem is that the military can't sustain large orders for many textile items so they have to depend on the civilian market as well. Take Southwest Motor Sports, they sold us flight gloves (Maxgrip) and we at first kept them in business. But after outfitting all our crews, the orders dwindled to around 6-8 hundred pair a year. So then they sold out to Camelbak and little by little they stopped producing the glove commercially unless a large, at least 800 pairs, order came in. Now, since we don't need such a large quantity, have to get a new vendor. In comes the Berry Amendment, which bites in the butt at every turn because it sometimes doubles the price of an item or it just can't be acquired without a waiver.
