  1. Yes, but above 5mw, just as the drones are above 55lbs. Most laser incidents involved standard laser pointers, albeit most are the new(er) green lasers, but under 5mw. The problem is really those mentally challenged individuals that do not think about or maybe care about what happens when they do stuff like that. No form of law or regulation will stop them from doing those things, and it is only the ones that are already willing to follow the rules that will be effected. On the same token, I think the FCC needs to be told to back off the FMRS band as well. But that's another whole ball of wax.
  2. Hmmm, I wonder what they would say about martial arts as a self defense strategy? I bet you can use it as long as you don't make contact with your assailant
  3. Never indicated Right vs hobby, just saying the arguments are alike. In that frame of reasoning, lasers should be banned/registered as well since more laser incidents have been reported than RC ones. There are many things that are not standardized, yet, it's up to the user to know his equipment, just like some guns won't fire without a magazine, many employ differing safety features. If I accidentally cause an issue, I should be held liable for said issue whether I intended to or if was just the way the equipment behaves. My particular drone goes back to the spot it took off from when signal is lost and as far as I know it does not have any avoidance built in so more than likely it will hit a tree before it gets back. Myself, I would prefer that I get to choose what it does when that occurs because in my case I would rather it just hover until I get within range again. I will test this feature in a large area to be sure, but I won't be taking any chances with it anyway. As with anything I do, I weight the risk/benefit of things and there is no way I will endanger anyone or their property just for a hobby. The most likely outcome for me is wrecked props from branches I fail to see crossing my fence line, or some animal taking offence at me violating its space.
  4. Not buying it, sounds akin to the reasoning for gun control. While other models may be different than mine, mine will return back if signal is lost. The farthest I sent it is like 700ft horizontal, at around 10-15ft AGL, At airports, they should deploy jammers for rc frequencies, that way aircraft will be safer.
  5. How so? As far as I know, before this was passed, there were no difference between hobbyists and pros except use and weight of the rc aircraft. Like many things, instead of punishing the act, they punish the instrument.
  6. I registered when it kicked off, it's not a drone registration per se, you are the one that gets registered and use your reg# on any and all drones you buy. The bs part was that to be able to fly your drone, you had to always be able to see it. That limited you to pretty much only open fields unless you had a drone pilots licence which was darn near the same as a normal pilots licence in both time and $. I use mine to survey my fence line for fallen branches/trees so I can repair it, if I have to be in visual range, I might as well just walk the perimeter.
  7. I'm out of touch I guess, Cobain is the only name I recognized, and him only barely.
  8. And some still say the vote went the wrong way! Elections have consequences, and luckily the consequences may be in our favor this time. Now if Trump can only get a couple more on the SC bench...
  9. I've seen that a time or two, I think it happens when the queen decides to go to a new place and they stop for the night (or day maybe). I had one by a deer stand once, I decided I didn't need to hunt there that day.
  10. That goes both ways, there are plenty of blacks that get a pass because of the perceived discrimination they may of experienced. There are many "shops" that have a large percentage of blacks, but nobody complains, but let it be the opposite and all hell breaks loose. You remember the big to-do about the grammys, or the academy awards?
  11. Wow, looking at your list I'm your polar opposite for the most part. But by my yardstick, I'm doing well, I'm retired military, and my body is not so broken that I can't hold down a job. Not rich by any means, but so far at 52 I have no monetary worries. Privileged? hardly, but I never let that stand in my way.
  12. I'd love to score some lead at 40¢-60¢ a lb, I am going to have to start checking my scrapyards more often. @owejia you lucked out on that keel, many times boat keels are what ever lead they can get and most times it's not pure. I think 1600lbs would last my lifetime and then some.
  13. While your statement is true, this one does sort of applies to all braces in so far as their interpretation of "use" and "makes" and "redesign". The shockwave, and most braces have their own ATF letter authorizing them as a brace, or at least as a non-stock. The original open letter never mentioned the Sig brace, although it described it so if it stood, I bet any brace fired from the shoulder would have fallen under that interpretation.
  14. No worries, I like to keep my options open. So, do you have a jig setup or just freehand? I was thinking of finding a square, ie flat, blade for my oscillating saw to cut notches for a .308 bottle opener. But I think a jig of some sort is needed.
  15. I'm glad you followed that, seemed to me that it kept flip flopping whether shouldering was legal or not. If I follow it correctly, using spacers may be construed as modifying the brace.
  16. I think it was me; I see its for an oscillating saw, how do you set it up for case conversion? The reviews on Amazon don't give it high marks, except for the guy that uses it for 300Blk, but says it cuts slower than the HF saw. I got those upgraded blades for the HF saw and they cut like butter, much better finish than the original. I don't know how long they will last as I have only did a few test cuts but so far so good.
  17. Gore-Tex here as well, and with all the surplus out there you should be able to get one inexpensively. Under Armour (or the like) as a base layer helps, specially with shedding excess moisture quickly. When doing a lot of heavy physical activity in the rain, I would opt to just get wet and change into something dry afterward because anything that keeps you dry will also tend to overheat you. Light to medium activity, such as any range work, gore tex will handle that just fine, they have a wet weather gore tex and a cold weather gore tex as well so you can chose what weight to buy.
  18. Same guy who also gave terrorists weapons? Or maybe the same one that gave drug dealers in Mexico Weapons? Or, maybe the same guy who allowed four of our people to die covering up weapons deal...wait a minute, was that the same guy?
  19. A T10C parachute was designed to carry 400lbs(ish) at around 22-24 FPS rate of decent. The heavier you were, the faster you fell (and harder you hit); I was about 180lbs, with a 75lb ruck, and as I was always the "lucky one" chosen to carry the M60, extra ammo for the M60, the radio with accompanying equipment or some other darn weapon or piece of one which would inch me ever so close to that magic 400lbs. Momentum played a part upon exiting the door or ramp because the C-130 (or what ever) was traveling at (hopefully) 150 Knots so you would continue the forward throw for a bit.
  20. Exactly, a heavy object would make a difference on air resistance and the only way to mitigate it is to distribute the weight evenly. Of course if said object was large also, it would add it's own resistance as well. I know that when I jumped "Hollywood" vs combat equipment my landing was much softer.
  21. Actually, a block of steel would make you fall faster, not beyond terminal velocity, but faster than without. It's all about the wind resistance, that's why many free fall parachutists will wear a jumpsuit. When falling, you slow your progress by spreading your body out, by tucking your arms to your side you get closer to terminal velocity. That's why the old joke about a lb of feathers and a lb of rocks is wrong unless both are in a sack. A "fall retardation" parachute will not only slow the bomb down, but also stabilize it so it does not tumble, and also helps the guidance system overcome terminal velocity.
  22. While active duty I was racking up the air miles, I seldom had the opportunity to accept any offers because they were always on the way out and I had a timeline to meet. But, in my experience all overbooking matters were handled before boarding, and in a manner which benefited those that volunteered to be bumped. I have been driven to another airport due to canceled flights, been given room and meal tickets when connections have been missed (airlines fault) and on a couple rare occasions had free flights. Only once have I been asked to come off an airplane, and that was the entire plane, the entire concourse for that matter, a passenger had gone around security and boarded so we all got inconvenienced then. It amazes me that airlines are allowed to overbook, but will charge for changing or cancelling flights unless you buy the trip insurance up front. How about selling more standby flights, at least then you know you may not get on. I think United will take a hit, but also agree that they will just pay and be done with it..probably covered by their insurance anyway.
  23. No, the proper solution was to deal with the overbooking before boarding. Once boarded, there should be no reason to get off unless it is a security issue. They also need to figure out the crew assignments better, how is it that the crew could not take another flight, or a 4hr bus trip for that matter. If crew rest would of been impacted, then they should of been sent off the day before.
  24. http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2017/04/07/breaking-civilian-marksmanship-program-receive-86000-m1-garand-rifles-philippines/ M1 Garand Rifles will hopefully be available through the CMP in larger numbers in the near future, you should have enough time to meet eligibility requirements and fill out your paperwork through the CMP.
  25. Meh, I own a few Maglight flashlights, a bunch of PVC, a few 2-liter bottles heck and even some potatoes that can be made into silencers if I really wanted. All have legal uses and were/are a primary reason for their purchase and there is no letter that can change that fact. I also own two Sig braces, which the ATF waffles back and forth on, I just refuse to live life worrying about what the ATF may do. With all the solvent traps out there, we would have to build a bunch of new prisons to hold everyone if they decided to arrest all who own one. If they change their mind, I am sure it will be like the ATI GSG-522 barrel shroud, a recall will be done and then you can chose to comply or not. http://www.gun-tests.com/news/news/ATI-American-Tactical-Imports-GSG-barrel-shroud-recall_11856-1.html#.WOvgB6p1oqI
