  1. Have you ever tried the Sig 1911's Have had two and both were quite well made and feature rich...run well too, (just don't let Sig work on their own sights)
  2. Actually I have had quite a bit of “one on one” training for armed defense. Other “group”courses as well. And as you say it never hurts to get more The words of my first instructor (two day course) will always resonate with me: “Edward, if you want to live you have to move. Back or side just move” Second time I trained with him one on one: “Don’t forget…move..,move…move. Am from out west and don’t see as many people attending courses out here could just be my perception
  3. Please don't ban me....but, It makes some sort of sense in today's homeless, drug addict, snatch and grab world. While I have no intention of policing the world, the more good honest citizens with guns spread about, the better. So here is the part where I get banned: "Would be willing to get more training and further vetting for the privilege of carrying in the aforementioned prohibited areas."
  4. In todays fantasy, he would have snuck out to the surgeon out of guilt, Snip, Snip Brenda now

Bit by my own rant. Have had a couple of Sig 1911's and love them both. They shoot to the proper point of aim. Just got back a slide on my 2017 vintage commander style sig 1911. Had them replace the front sight as the tritium dot was burnt out. Specifically told them not to replace it if they didn't have the same height front sight, Well, they put a taller one on because combat is how they sight them now...according to customer service. When I pointed out how this differed from my instructions the CS agent said he didn't want to hear about center hold vs combat hold. He said they way they do it now is the way it is. There goes a nice 1911 once used for pinking steel. Should a just kept the old sight as it is used mostly in daytime.

It's a good point and thanks. While I have seen some guns which are particularly ammo sensitive, in my experience the shift between 115 and 124 is usually not that much. In the specific guns cited a simple change in bullet weight was not enough to make an appreciable difference at 15 yards. Also have many thousand rounds of 115 and 124 gr factory and reload which shoot fine and not about to buy more. Thanks though, it is a phenomena some pistols show more than others.

No problem at all Swang. I have red dots on three handguns. Love 'em but only one is for carry. The Hellcat with Holosun plinks steel like crazy. However, I am not fully enamored about the extra bulk/reliability/speed issues that can come from a dot. It's a transition to be sure and practice makes better. However,...whadda ya gonna use but the iron sights if the dot fails. If iron sights only on a defensive gun, one doesn't worry about them fogging up. Just my opinion, appreciate your input.
  8. Have several revolvers in 38 and have had a fair amount of experience with the 38/357 cartridge. If it is just personal defense, either will do but the 38 loaded with +P ammo (only way to go) is much easier to shoot. 357 causes a lot of recoil, particularly in those 14 oz titanium frame guns. It is definitely more powerful though, In either case, hold out for a six rounder if you can. As to barrel length, I would not consider carrying over a 3" barrel. It just gets to big to conceal properly, on me. If you are carrying for protection from Bear, etc then go for a longer barrel length and ONLY 357 rather than 38 spl. In fact I would opt for a 44 mag or 10mm semi auto if that were my concern.
  9. Thanks for doing the fine board. Problems happen, glad you got everything resolved. Don't fret the little stuff!!!
  10. I think Reefer was basically asking if it is safe or if significantly better performance can be obtained with magnum vs reg small pistol primers in .357 handloads just to recap my opinion is that regular primers work just fine but I can understand where one might want the assurance of a stronger base material when approaching higher pressure loads* Considering primer availability, I would just load away and as always work up your load. Meaning watching the cases for bulging or primer deformation as you go from a starting load to a more powerful one. There is quite a bit about magnum vs regular primers on the internet. I tend to trust people who do their own testing rather than those just regurgitate opinion. Here is another interesting read: https://loaddata.com/Article/BenchTopics/Magnum-Primers-for-Standard-Pistol-Loads/331 *I have no proof of this, but suspect that historically part of the reason for a stronger case material in 357, 41, 44 magnum loads was the inconsistency in firing pin strike between different manufacturers revolvers. I have seen punctured primers in a couple of revolvers (long long time ago) with factory magnum ammo. Yep, I think they were poorly made ones As I remember one was a single action chambered in .357, not American made. So have fun man and happy shootin’

Center hold. Six o’clock is what we used for bullseye match shooting in the last century (humor intended).

Yep their good, but mostly fiber optic sights. They also don't have different height sights for guns like the p365 and newer models. Last time I checked anyway.

I love mine for many reasons. That is but one of them Spoiler, just spent 900+ on a Hellcat, modify cut, mount Holosun and Apex trigger job. Like carrying the LCP II more

Am sooo tired of buying a new handgun, mostly small 9's, only to find out that they are sighted to a combat hold. For me, the poi should be directly on top of the front sight rather than under the white dot on it. That's the way 1911's on most revolvers are. The combat hold makes it difficult for me to see what you are shooting if plinking small stuff. When my Austrian instructor first showed me this sighting method decades ago, I thought he was joking. He claimed it was a natural sight picture in a defensive encounter. Now it has become almost standard on micro or sub compact 9's. AND I DON"T LIKE IT Yes there are aftermarket sights, but in my experience they usually are sighted the same as the manufacturers. Glock makes adjustable or just higher rear sights, but not every dovetail fits Glock sights. And no, I don't like filing down my front sight to a nub. On a bright note, my little Ruger LCPII 380 puts shots right on top of the front blade as it should. Went through a 50 round box of WWB yesterday at ORSA and it reliably plinked steel at 30 feet. Not so much at 60 feet, but that's a combination of me and the short sight radius. End of Rant ps: Combat hold most recently encountered on Sig P320, P365, Hellcat, M&P. My Taurus G3c uses Glock sights so was able to change out the rear on it.
  15. Cute buddy. I have to watch mine as he likes to put his paw on the scale.
  16. That is a really mild load. You must are shooting softer lead??? btw I also belong to ORSA, Usually go to Gattlinburg Sportsmans Club for pistol or any Chrono work as there is less "traffic". Its also. lot closer to me
  17. From what I have read they are the same except for a slightly thicker/stronger case material. As far as magnum being hotter that is rather hard to prove, primer manufacturers are pretty tight lipped about specs. For now just use what you have. I have loaded very hot .357's with regular sp primers and I quit before the primers did (ouch).
  18. Had an M&P 9 PC comp and absolutely hated it. Got gummed up too easily, several types of factory 115 and 124 gr ammo. Comp left black marks on the barrel which were hard to clean Went back to S&W they said I should use 100 gr or lighter bullets...really? Hope yours works better.
  19. New unused (17 round). This was for a "M+P9 M2.0 4.22" NTS NMS PC PORTED" which I sold. This was on backorder from S&W and arrived a couple of months after I sold the gun. Can't use so a good deal for you. I don't know what other guns it fits, so don't ask ftf Sevierville $15.00 -- PM and will respond with contact info
  20. It just sold this weekend, will mark it as such. Thanks for the interest.
  21. I did. Tried pushing it in so hard it got stuck, that's when the photo was taken. Had a friend hold onto the holster while I wiggled the 1911 to get it out.
  22. Before you type out a negative response, kindly grant me adequate notice so I can don my flame retardant suit
  23. There may be local fire ordinances or possibly restrictions if you live in an apartment, I have never encountered any even in the Peoples Republic of Kommiefornia. With that said, there are some guides available online as to the safe storage of powder. In particular powder should be stored by itself (not with primers) in a wooden box with openings to allow some of the pressure to vent if it ignites. It sounds counterintuitive, as one would think it is best to keep it in a tight container to keep stuff from getting to the powder. But there some logic to this method. I think the idea is not to make a bomb by storing powder in a metal container which could explode if the powder somehow ignited (this is my own interpretation and wording). I store mine in an old wood military mortar round box with some added spacing between slats. Powder is ALWAYS in the manufacturers container. I never leave powder in my measure after a reloading session. Common sense prevails, imo.
  24. Is it possible that NORMA rebrands ammo in order to offer a low cost option to its customers? Not saying that is the case, but it seems that the brass I have problems reloading are mostly Eastern European in origin.
