Good God. I miss America. Where the hell did it go? I remember watching (on TV) the "compound" burn like it was yesterday. I don't recall anything "heroic" about it.

Great review and info Comms. If my 550 would ever wear out, the 650 would be it's replacement. Darn Dillon quality and customer service...26+ years and I'm still waiting... :squint: +1 to BigK's bullet point #3...a light is a must have imho.

I'm not sure how much you can actually save handloading these. I handload a lot of handgun rounds and a fair amount of rifle rounds. The greatest savings for me is that we cast our handgun bullets and bulk purchase the rifle bullets. I purchased a shotgun loading set up several years ago, but due to being able to purchase shells as inexpensively as I can, which is less of a cost than purchasing the components at the time, I never moved forward on it. It's there if I need it or start shooting a bunch of shotgun rounds... I do realize .410 rounds/shells are pretty expensive right now, but if you plan to shoot a lot of them, it might be worth looking into purchasing the setup and learning how to load them. Bulk/volume purchase is an option...if you can locate a supply. Good luck with whatever your choice is.

I don't intend this as a negative in any way BigK. It may well be the photograph angle, but it looks like there isn't much room for a full quick or fumble free grip on the drawstroke. (With the mag inserted into it's carrier). Am I way off base on my viewing/angle of view? Most of the holsters I've seen with same side mag carry have had the mag in front of the handgun. Obviously for the concept you presented that would be a no-go. Nice looking holster molding btw.

Sportsman's guide free shipping, ammo even
Jamie Jackson replied to MountainDewed's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Thanks. I just used the code on a box of ammo I wanted to try...worked great! :pleased: -
Just to throw in my unsolicited 2 cents worth... One of our group was looking to purchase a slimmed down 9mm, so we assembled an XDs, my Shield and a G43 so he could try them out. He shot them all well...but ultimately choose the G43. Quite subjectively, he simply liked the "feel" of the 43 better.Mind you, that particular 43 did have Taran Tactical mag extensions on it. I shot that particular 43 a few times and it is nice. I personally prefer the trigger on my Shield. But all three were quite easy to run, and run accurately. No one says you can't have both hipower. :pleased:

The pics are incredible, as is the work you are doing and the love you show these little guys (& gals). I've had the honor of swapping a few e-mails with MrsMonkeyMan and believe me folks, this lady is incredible! My appreciation and admiration go out to you and MrMonkey!

Recommend some shooting drills for me
Jamie Jackson replied to jgradyc's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
+1 to Sidecarist. Todd Green and pistol-forum have some great ideas and suggestions for various drills and practice sessions. My personal favorite is simply a gunhandling drill and I find it pretty challenging myself. It's the F.A.S.T. Test. Give it a try and let us know what you think. http://pistol-training.com/fastest Gabe White aka "Origami AK" makes it look easy...he ain't normal... :dropjaw: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QN_t6wol4_M -

Always Check Your Powders! Savagrenade!

Damn. That sucks. I'm glad he's OK as well. I have blown up a handgun....long ago...but Damn! 41 grs of Titegroup?! He's really fortunate to have not been badly injured Comms. I only have 3 powder measures and only 2 of those actually get any use. Each are labeled with the current powder and grain weight I'm using at the time they are in fact in use. I know Titegroup is a very fine powder, but thought Varget was fairly bulky extruded powder. I've never used Varget but one would think the difference would be noticeable -

Damn. I hate that. What an incredible impact the Eagles had on my generations music. I was fortunate enough to see them before Joe Walsh ('75 in San Fransisco) and then to see the Hotel California tour over in London. I'm with you Fourtyfive and getting kinda anxious about it... :dropjaw: -
I handload 5.56/.223 for about $0.20/round. That's using range brass, Tula Small Rifle primers and H-335 powder. I use 25 grs so that's about 280 rounds per pound of powder. Brass prepping for rifle takes a lot of the time and energy...but I love handloading so I enjoy the process. We cast and PC for 9mm and that saves us quite a bit. Of course we therefore shoot a lot more... :pleased: So, as others have mentioned, it depends...it depends on how much you shoot and how much time and effort you are willing to invest to learn. It's a mixture of Science & Art.

I made individual photos with typed information...make, caliber, model, and serial number and have these in a stored notebook. I don't that many firearms but having the info available in case of fire or theft isn't too much to ask.

Customer gets into open carry dispute
Jamie Jackson replied to NextExit's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Arguing with the police is simply stupid...it's a no-win situation. I can appreciate standing up for your Constitutionally Protected Rights... but there is a right way and a wrong way to do this. Polite and respectful interaction is much more likely to work in your favor, not kowtowing, but not being a jerk either. I don't envy the job cops have to do. This guy was a confrontational butt-head and the cops appeared to be to be acting quite professionally... I carry concealed for a reason. Don't want nor need the drama. Just my observation and viewpoint.- 83 replies

Yep....spare parts for any and all if you can swing it. I have a box for my Glocks, AK's and AR's and still feel the need for more spare parts...

Yep. I remember flying all over the country with a Spydie and a Surefire flashlight. At least I had options back then. I haven't flown since 9/11 because of the, "Security Theater" BS. I would much rather invest my time and drive. I'm not saying I'll never fly, but I am saying I never want to fly...not if I have a realistic choice.

Welcome aboard Sandy. Lafollette's a beautiful area. Met some good folks from around there as well.

I'm certain that the majority of folks here are familiar with the writings and findings of Doctor Gary K. Roberts or DocGKR generally listed on AR15 dot com. I was reading the below links for any updates this morning, under "Rifle Ammo" ".223" regarding Barrier Blind vs Non Barrier Blind penetration and found a link to some testing on Wolf Gold .223. I knew I liked this ammo for it's price and quality. But I am definitely pleased to find some decent data on this, so I thought I'd share it with you guys and gals. Guess I need to pick up another K of this! :pleased: DocGKR's AR15 link: http://www.ar15.com/ammo/project/Self_Defense_Ammo_FAQ/index.htm#mozTocId803443 Article by MOLAN: http://www.ar15.com/ammo/project/Self_Defense_Ammo_FAQ/MOLON/Wolf%20Gold%2055gr%20FMJ.htm

knoxville 'smiths for S&W repair
Jamie Jackson replied to joel0711's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
If you're referring to my 686 it's not a factory issue in any way. Some friends of mine that built Bianchi Revolvers back in '87 (when I lived in Kansas City) modified it to DAO and I think clipped one of the springs...I was naive and bought into it. It has an incredible trigger, but is picky on the primers it likes...as in Federal or Winchester....I want to return the spring to factory original and I know I would screw it up if I tried to do it. Revolver innards mystify and confuse me...that's why I like the Legos of handguns...Glocks! Thanks for the info on Knoxville Tactical folks. I'll call them tomorrow.
