  1. Does anyone know where to buy some in middle TN? I want to shoot my dad's Garand on the Fourth of July.
  2. Where you find the best deals when you buy ammo in bulk?
  3. Just walked out the Gander Mountain in Hixson and they have a couple hundred boxes of 30.06 on sale at 40% off. Plenty of other calibers, but in half dozen to dozen lots. Almost out of 308 and three cases of 1000 round federal 223 left at .26 cents/Rd. picked up a RCBS Chargemaster at 40% off also have a large quantity of .40 brass available Only large pistol primers left, Winchester and Federal match
  4. I bought this from David but I'm not sure what I have, any help would be appreciated. I bought it a while back and don't have notes for it etc.
  5. Stopped by Maryville Walmart tonight to grab a couple things from hardware. Decided to stroll over to the ammo section... Had probably 50 boxes of .22 (50 rnd boxes). CCI Standard, quiet and high velocity. They had 4 1k rnd boxes earlier today he said. Best news was he was told they should be able to keep this Walmart supplied regularly and 3 box limit has been removed.
  6. I was looking through some info last night and came up with some things for shotguns that I had never heard of. I know most of us would know bird shot, slugs, and buckshot. We probably have even heard of beanbag, wax slugs, rubber slugs, cut shells, and dragon's breath rounds. Heck, I have even read about the compressed lead powder door breaching rounds. What I had never heard of is Pepper Blast rounds, Flash Thunder Grenade rounds, and Armor Piercing rounds. While I generally think if I am going to bring a gun to bear on someone that it is to the point of needing to be lethal, these interest me. Has anyone ever used/seen any of these? Looks like these guys specialize in this stuff: Firequest Exotic Shotgun Ammo Some of the ammo is kind of silly to me like the "12 Gauge Piranha" which is filled with "dozens of razor sharp steel tacks" and #12 shot. I think at that point, just use buckshot. Maybe it is less likely to carry through walls or something. Mostly, it is just marketing hype. I am not sure that the pepperblast rounds would be hard to make, but if it is just powder, range would be very short and could blow back toward you if the wind was right.
  7. Does anyone have any discount codes for free shipping for Midsouth Shooters Supply? I need some bullets and the shipping for 75 miles is kinda high. Thanks!
  8. I don't mind spending money on software. However, I've spent more money than I care to admit in a public forum on software that either didn't cut the mustard. Or it went obsolete and required constant updates to satisfy the bean counter residual income models. I re-entered reloading after a thirty year hiatus ... College, family, financial and other demands were the cause. Not a whole lot has changed. I've repurchased much of the equipment I used to use and upgraded some like the press. Would love to talk or meet someone that uses Quickload and run a few scenarios by them. If it does what it claims to do, I have no problem paying the $150 they ask for it. TIA
  9. I don't know if Federal Primers are still in short supply. We stopped at Outdoor Junction in Cookesville on our way to Nashville. They had sr, lr, sp, and lp primers on the shelf
  10. Anybody use this powder for the BO? I want to load 110gr-125gr for small to medium game, coyote and such. I have some Barns TAC-TX and some Nosler ballistic tip I'd like to try.
  11. With the right load, I still like my 40. Those last two 45 loads are inspiring! got to get a couple boxes of that medicine! http://www.luckygunner.com/labs/self-defense-ammo-ballistic-tests/#9mm
  12. The Serbs have invaded again and I'm ready to buy. 55gr .223 $5.79/20 Great prices on .303, 7.62 tok, .357/.38 as well. If anyone wants to share a coupon code OR add share shipping and add some ammo to my order (please be committed) and lives in Knox, let me know.
  13. I don't know if this is the right place to ask this but if not can someone tell me where I need to post it. I have an opportunity to lay my hands on some pure lead but I have no clue what pure lead is worth or selling for. If someone could steer me in a direction I could get a price it would be very much appreciated. I'm talking a pretty large quanity of lead. I don't do reloading but I am sure someone here does and might be able to point me in the right direction. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Bersaguy
  14. https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCA1RsmxYtCmKeV1FkrgJNFg Some interesting videos here on how well rounds penetrate barriers. Maybe not all that scientific in his methods but some of his videos are interesting.
  15. Got a good deal on the last tin of Bulgarian 7.62 x 54R that a guy had I just bought a Mosin Nagant off of. Only thing is that he did not have an opener. I can pick one up pretty cheap, but do I need it? I don't what to be prying this open with a crowbar but I doubt I will buy a lot of these cans. On another note. Anyone seen any good deals on the 7.62 x 54R? seems like several good deals have dried up suddenly. This is a pic of the one he had posted that had an opener.
  16. L to R .35 Remington, no clue where it came from. .303 British 7.62 x 51, Chromed Franklin Arsenal 1816-1977 commerative M855 M193 .30 Carbine 7.62 x 39 Viking for CQB
  17. Wideners no longer sells powder or primers. Here's a portion of an email reply I got concerning this. Thank you for reaching out to us at Wideners! Unfortunately, we have not been offering powder or primers for the past couple of months. We continued to face higher costs to comply with regulations around the storage, sale, and shipping of powder and primers. You’ve probably noticed the increase in hazardous materials shipping fees, but that’s just a small part of the costs. We also faced greater local, state, and federal regulations that placed a difficult burden on retailers like us, who focus on serving the small reloader. It was a hard decision to stop selling powder and primers because we have sold them for so long, and especially because several of us are avid reloaders ourselves. However, we will still offer bullets, casings, and pre-primed casings with the same friendly customer service our customers expect and deserve. We are also already going to work, expanding our selection of loaded ammunition to ensure we can be of help for shooters who enjoy every corner of the passion we all share.

  19. round two. warming up to the thought of reloading .223 for my AR (Saint), have spent hours on line, including you tube. seems like the re-size/trim after first shot is important. thinking about setting up a single stage press for re-size/decap. Really like carbide, but want to have the most control over re-sizing (thinking FL). target: most accurate load @ 100yd or less. would love to hear thoughts on the best die from a precision re-size standpoint. thank you in advance,
  20. Just looking to get a few more rounds and I see Cabela's now has the .223 in a "HotShot" brand. It is on sale for $4.49 for 20. Looks like typical Russian stuff, but that is a darn good price. Plus shipped to me it is no tax and over $99 is free shipping. makes it out the door to be $0.2245. Does not say polymer or lacquer coated, but I bet it is the latter. Curious, so I looked at 9mm. They have it $8.49 for 50. Look like the ammo only comes in .223, 9mm, .308 and (very oddly) 8x57 Mauser. Anyone tried this or have an idea of the maker? Ordering from Cabela's is cheaper for me than Academy due to tax savings, but normally Academy beats them on price anyway. I know there are a few slightly cheaper places out there, but I have a gift card to both places right now, so that makes up for it. Looks like ammunitionstore.com has some Wolf WPA that is .21893 when you buy 1000 and pay shipping.
  21. Anyone know where a man can obtain some factory loaded 357 maximum ? I've got a new kid to feed
  22. Mostly an FYI and curious if anyone else has experience with Maxxtech I have a shooting friend that started reloading metallic case ammo earlier this year. He's well seasoned in shot shell reloading so the learning curve was minimal but of course, he made the usual Uhh Ohhs we all make at first and then occasionally along the way due to negligence or just momentary lack of undivided attention. Not that it really matters what kind of press he has but it's a Dillon 650XL. So after a couple of months of rolling along and reloading everything he can get his hands on he gives me a call. He tells me that on the the upstroke, as you push the down, he could hear (a distinct sound on a Dillon if you have one) the spent primer pop out of the case being resized and then everything locked up. So I tell him he has a stuck case and believe it or not his first one since he started loading about 4 months ago. Now I know he's using carbide resizing dies and I know he cleans his brass before reloading so I said don't do anything else I want to see it. When I get there I put a little extra force on it just shy up ripping the rim off and or deforming the shell plate and yep, it's stuck. I unscrewed the decapping rod and removed it and put a punch down in it and started tapping with increasing intensity and about when I thought we needed to try another method it budged a little and a few more taps and it was out. Visual inspection of the case and it looked normal and very clean. I looked at the head stamp and I initially thought it said Magtech which I know I've reloaded some and never had a problem with. When I looked down into the mouth of the case it looked as if the inside was sleeved about half way up the inside so my first thought was that it was short stroked when it was press formed but slipped through QC. Then after thinking about that a minute I thought that can't be. The inside of the case was too well formed with the cavity going down to the flash hole being perfect. Then I look at the head stamp and I realize it is not Magtech but MaxxTech. I've seen it in the ammo cabinets at retail stores and in catalogs but never had any experience with it. So today with a little help from the interwebz I know a little more about it. I found several reference like the one I cut and pasted below. This one came from Cast Boolits and was posted in September of 2016 SAFETY ALERT!! ........Maxxtech 9mm Brass Be alert for 9mm brass carrying the "MAXXTECH" headstamp!! This boxer primed brass is apparently Russian production, and from the outside looks like good, reloadable brass. The problem is on the inside: .....These cases feature a .035" thick internal sleeve that serves to both reinforce the case in the head area, and to prevent bullet set-back. This sleeve comes to within .210" of the case mouth, and is easily seen during a case inspection. This sleeve constitutes a safety issue because it SIGNIFICANTLY reduces the available case volume: .....And as a consequence, ANY powder charge that would duplicate a factory load in a normal case will produce perilously high pressures in the MAXXTECH brass. I am sure that with a proper powder charge, this brass might be a great idea: .....But none of the published 9mm data should be used in this brass! Please watch for this stuff!! The picture above was with the post and appears that the case is cracked in about the 2 o'clock position. With the internal sleeve made into this case I find it hard to believe someone could resize with any success then reload it to have to worry about reduced case capacity and a kaboom but then again, just about anything is possible once. I just looked at the MaxxTech website and they currently are not showing any boxer primed 9mm in their product. I think we know why!
  23. A year or so ago I bought some of the Oath Tango ammunition. I went back to their website ( here:http://www.oathammo.com/about-us ) and it no longer allows direct purchase and they've not responded to my inquiries. Does anyone know the reason?
  24. I had a buddy of mines wife buy him a Glock23 40 cal for his birthday and he is wanting to know what would be the best ammo for it. He had one person tell him 165 gr but I wanted to get the best info for him so I came here to the best place to find out. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks Bersaguy
