safely discarding reloads

I have some 9mm reloads I bought some time ago - I shot some of them this past week and had a number of issues.

It's not worth it to me to continue to shoot ammo that may cause a problem.

Is there a safe recommendation how to discard live ammo without actually shooting it?

Can I take it to a range to dispose of it?

Call your local PD or Sheriff's department and ask if they'll take it.

IF you reload, or know someone who reloads, you can pull the bullets, and "re-cycle" the components if you have an interest in that.  The quantity you have may not make it worth the effort, but if you have sufficient quantity, most of the components can be re-used by someone.

I also recommend a bullet puller I have the hammer type and while I have used it a lot more than I would have liked I will never wear it out.

I  don't reload but if I did and needed to dispose of it, I suppose a deep lake next time you go fishing might work. That's where most say their guns are anyway after the boating accident.

If you don't feel like pulling the bullets, give them to someone who will.  There is no reason to give to LEO, or throw them in a lake.  If nothing else, take some pliers and pry the bullets off and discard everything, don't toss live rounds in the trash.
