I only had to get four words into the article before this made perfect sense.

Illinois. Where freedom went to die.

I know I'm going to catch flack for this, but I hope the ACLU gets involved in this case. At least it will lessen his financial burden.

EDIT: It seems the ACLU is involved.

Let's keep the brash generalizations out of the thread and focus on the participants in this instance. Thanks.

Sure thing. Sorry, your right. I should have typed more. The Cops and Lawyers in this link are all POS's IMO. With the scenario set up like it was they have chosen to direct their time and energy towards this guy instead of the thousands of other BG's in IL (and nationwide). Huge waste of time and precious resource's for a stupid law.

Cops & lawyers don't make the laws. Blame the politicians.

And ourselves while we are at it.

I am sure there is enough blame to go around.

Got that right.

It is corrupt people, regardless of vocation, that fear the camera in public places.

When it comes to officers, specifically all the decent officers that I have known and worked with welcomed anyone with a camera. This was because a lot of times the bad guy or their family would make false allegations of police brutality. And in most cases when there was a tape present the officer would be vindicated and the charges dropped.

It is when the officer doesn't want to be taped that the brutality takes place or other laws are knowingly broken by the officer. If an officer is acting in good faith, even if they are wrong, he/she won't be judged as harshly as those who blatantly break the law.

Not surprising. This isn't a right vs left issue. You get similar reporting both from people on the way-out far right (like the link at the top) and at the other end of the spectrum like HuffPo:

Chicago State's Attorney Lets Bad Cops Slide, Prosecutes Citizens Who Record Them

talk about a double standard.

they can use cameras to issue speeding tickets and when you blow through a red light, but when the public records the police, suddenly someone's facing life in prison?

Welcome to the modern day Soviet Union people.
