Well took up the last tomato plant    put cages put up    and garden plowed up so it’s in good Shape for next year  Now I am starting on coring apples for apple butter  Going to make some in a big copper kettle and a open fire    Supposed to be cold next week

Any of you folks ever planted sweet sorghum?  I’ve helped my grandpa cook it for years but am getting ready to start planting some at my place and build my own cooker. I’m just curious to see everyone else’s setup if y’all do it.

No sir, but I'm tagging in with interest.

I helped my grandfather cut cane (sugar cane) at his farm in the early 1960's in South MS. He took it to a mill for processing but us kids weren't allowed in on any of that.

We sure ate a lot of sugar cane though.

I’ll be sure to document the process on here. Here are some pics of his evaporator. I plan on planting a quarter of an acre and hope to get 8-10 gallons of syrup out of it but have no idea what kind of yield I’ll get.

Got garden tilled up 10 inch deep got it fertilized and onion bulbs are in will wait to Good Friday to plant the rest  Hope all your gardens are doing well

My cover crop of field peas is doing quite well. I was considering pulling them up this weekend but I'll wait since it's getting cold again.

I, unfortunately, must live vicariously through the pics you guys post for now.

I had surgery on my ankle last week (Tendons and ligaments reattached, bone removed, and some brand spanking new titanium!).

I still hope to get some tomatoes and bell peppers in the ground eventually.

Thankfully there's a Farmer's market just down the road (Dixie Lee).

 

So I'm counting on you guys to post pics!

I feel for you broke my ankle in 3 places ripped tendons and ligaments. a few years back Get well soon if I can do anything for you let me know. I know it gets rough being trapped inside I will keep you in mind when crops come in also

Thank you @Sleep profit.

Parts just wear out and it takes longer to mend.

I did a fair amount of remodeling over the past couple of years with the "Aging in place" concept in mind.

It came in handy sooner than I anticipated! LOL

I should have installed an outdoor chair lift to the garden.

Finally got my garden fertilized, disced, and ready to plant. Now it’s raining. I think it’s about to quit. If so, I’ll try to plant it later today. Man, it been wet lately!

 

Got the tomatoes and peppers planted, and then rain resumed. I guess the seed planting will happen another day.

Got my 16 tomato plants growing. Had a late bamboo habitat cutting day this year. Got me some new stakes 9 ft long. Got sheets of cardstock from pallets at Sam's. Cut/fit around plants and covered with sawdust/leaf mulch. 

Got to replace some of my buckets that split down the side. 5 quarter inch holes in the bottom, filled with last year's kitchen compost and leaf mulch, placed between plants. All chemicals and watering goes in the buckets. I use to plant a 2 liter drink bottle by each plant for the same.

I put out a dozen tomatoes of different types and half a dozen peppers. We planted 2 rows of sweet corn, a row of yellow squash, row of zucchini, 2 rows of peas. I still need to get my beans out, but it wont quit raining long enough to work the rows out. Gotta put out 4 or 5 rows of Jimmy Red corn as well

Yeah.... we've got a few seedlings growing but nothing in the ground. Rainy and busy.

Same here I have some tomatoes in a raised bed but nothing in my garden.

My Wife planted a few little things. All I got out was Egyptian Wheat and a bunch of milk weed.

I have enough hemlock that you'd think I planted it.

We finally decided it was silly not to have a garden, so I built a couple of cedar raised beds. We've been raising tomatoes, peppers, cucumbers, etc from seeds. Finally got them in the beds and they seem pretty happy. Next up is to build some supports onto the beds so i can string up the tomatoes from up high.

I think I may go ahead and put down gravel around the beds as well. Keep from having to weed eat around them. Just turn it into my own little operation.

I planted silver queen corn today I usually try to plant a couple weeks apart so I won’t have so much to work up.

OK folks.

As I'm gimped up and can't put in my usual raised bed garden this year (mentioned upstream), I'm gonna need some pics from you folks for my vicarious living lifestyle  

I do have a couple of tomato plants in pots because I just can't bring myself to eat "store bought" tomato sandwiches. Tomato sandwiches are a Rite of Passage of summer doggonit!

I know it still early and has been a wet year so far, but I am looking forward to seeing your gardens and wish you all the best.

Picked our first cherry tomato today. Rain and mud has made it near impossible to keep weeded. Maybe it’ll dry up while I can still locate it.
