Private Sales May Be Next 2A Infringement

Recommended Posts

Oh, there's gonna be an end to private sales, you can pretty much bet on it. It was gonna happen at some point even without Sandy Hook.

Only question is what kind of database comes with it.

- OS

Never been a doubt in my mind about it.

Private sales WILL be the first thing to go.  It's just a question of when.

I don't see it happening, with the exception of it being some EO. I know
there is a lot being flung at the wall. and the Republicans are wanting
to look like they did something, just like their opposition, but there is just
as much opposition to this as to other proposals. It won't accomplish
anything, either. If the Republicans give in on this, just like any other bill,
it will cost then the House. Just because you have a couple of people
making noise in the Senate doesn't mean much. I think it's just noise.

We should still fight the noise, but watch what else comes out at the same
time. Some real sneaky politics, nowadays.

Without a national gun registry database its not going to work

I'm pretty sure that's the whole point of all this... "Oh, this isn't working, so we need to make a database of all firearms in the US." Which, of course, that won't work either because the prerequisite to being a criminal is breaking the law.

Like that would do anything positive. They need to pass a budget, like the
good ole days when they lied more creatively but, at least acted like they
did something according to their own rules.

If they can't even do that little bit of business, which is a requirement of
their jobs, they need to leave these things alone.

Does anyone really think that the federal government is capable of keeping an accurate database for the millions (likely in excess of 200 million privately owned in the U.S.) of weapons in the country?  To the best of my knowledge (and actually I know of more than one specific example); the government can't keep the current NFA registry accurate and up to date even with about 70 years to get it right and with a tiny fraction of weapons to keep track of...if they can't do that how are they going to do it when the work expands exponentially?

More to the point, people will be people...some people WILL NOT COMPLY and never think a thing about it.

I'm not saying the government won't try, especially when you have useful idiots like Bob Pope out there extolling the problem of the non-existent "gun show loophole" but the government actually making it work?  I don't think so.

I tend to think that 6.8 and Robert are right on this one.  I think all this is noise.  The gubmt would like to do all this stuff, but any "...everybody gets a background check..." law is largely uninforceable.  The dammed criminals sure aint doin the background check thing.  How are they gonna know when ya "transfer" a firearm;... individual surviellence, drones, spies, astral overseers...???

More than that; no polititian is gonna put his name on the passage of a "gun registry database" law; except in a kommunist enclave like kalefornia or new york.  I think this is red meat for the idiots and a fairytale dream for the nobamaites.  I'm old enough to remember the fallout from the gun control act of 1968.  Ask al gore jr about that one.

All that havin been said, keep sending the dollars to the NRA and watch the dammed politicos closely.

Yes lots of fall out, except we're still stuck with a bad law called the Gun Control Act of 1968, and a bunch of stupid laws since then.

How come when we elect a Republican President, and hold Republican majorities in the House and Senate we can repeal any of these stupid laws?  They didn't even manage to repeal the first AWB, just let it expire.

You know the answer to that...most politicians, regardless of party and any declared "core principles", are only truly concerned with obtaining and maintaining power and are loath to do anything they don't have to do or be forced into taking any sort of stand on something because doing so means that they will alienate some group and therefore lose votes and campaign donations.

We no longer have a representative republic; we have a ruling class of elites who get elected to what essentially becomes life-long careers and a slightly less elite class of life-long bureaucrats...as long as that exists we cannot have the freedom and liberty our founders intended for us to have. Considering how many tens of millions of vehicles are registered with state governments and the hundreds of million of radio devices registered with the FCC, yeah, I think the gov can do it.

Criminals won't comply, so it will to mitigate crime one bit, nor will it stop firearms from changing hands. The civil disobedient crowd who will choose not to comply aren't likely to transfer those weapons they don't register. So once again, we're back to the criminals being the only ones who won't be affected, just like they aren't now by all the ineffective gun laws which only limit the rights of the law abiding folks.

Canada gave up on their Registry with only about 30% compliance and over 3000% over-budget.  And they started with a registration on handguns and some other types of firearms already.  We have a LOT more folks, a LOT more guns, and a LOT less efficient government.

California had less than 10% compliance with their 'assault-weapon' registration.

Making firearms is not rocket science.  Anyone with basic machine tools can make anything that they want.  There are a lot of plans on the internet.

As usual, this will not accomplish anything towards reducing violence or mass shootings by deranged people.

Finally, show me WHERE the Constitution gives Congress the power to pass this legislation?  Yes, I know if hasn't stopped them in the past.  But why should they be allowed to violate their oath of office now?

And yes, everyone needs to call, write AND email Corker, Alexander, and your congresscritter to express your displeasure.  But polite, but firm.

first off someone needs to explain to me the difference between republicans and democrats.  Near as I can tell they are about as different as a Chevy and a Ford.

GOP members are no more turncoats than Dem's.

Believing there is actually a difference is the first farce people need to get past.

I am not registering much of anything.  Problem solved.

I don't see a lot of correlation between Automobiles and firearms - there is approximately 250 million vehicles on the road but we know that because they are registered and MUST be registered at the time of purchase since they must have a title...while the mechanism has changed over the years it's been around a very long time.

On the other hand, the best "guess" about the number of civilian (as opposed to military/law enforcement) in the U.S. is 200 million; basically none but a tiny fraction of which are currently registered.

IF everyone who has firearms complied with an order to register them then there MAY be a chance that the government could keep track of them but I highly doubt it. First simple because many will not comply, second because of their track history (as I mentioned, the NFA registry, even with some 70+ years to work on it isn't accurate and that's only about 200,000 firearms) thirdly because the government is rarely good with maintaining such details.

Of course, the best thing is to stop this ridiculous stuff in its tracks.

well Robert since my Ford/Chevy reference roared right over your head I will try to explain further.

Politicians, not guns are like Fords and Chevy's.    There is little substantive difference between Ford's and Chevy's,  And there is little difference between Dem's and Republican's.

I use the line - Makes no difference if they are a Repub or Dem as they just use different entrances to the same whore house.  Now they may be a pimp, pro or the piano player but we are the ones who gets the STD

Dead On. We need to keep the pressure on. Do not stop writing your reps. Politicians getting behind closed doors is getting old.

Just happended to think of somethin else ALA Gun Control Act of 1968.   There was some sentiment in the country for this one.  .....The Kennedys, MLK......  I see no sentiment among most people for gun control now.  Now, you have individual states actually expanding gun rights (....or, more correctly, restoring gun rights....).  Even the "Snozz" Haslam is sayin that "... state officials are monitoring the federal legislative scene closely to see that the gun rights of Tennesseeans are not infringed...".   That simply was not going on in the 60's.  I firmly believe that more and people are discovering on their own exactly what the Second Amendment is really about.  I count that a good thing.

As to the Republican thing; ...i see them (...for the most part...) as just another bunch of sons and daughters of satan that want to tell you and me what we can do, what we can have, and how much money we can keep.  That is exactly what has made me a radical isolationist libertarian.  I dont like any of 'em.

Keep your powder dry.

I'm not far behind you Leroy. I vote Republican now and did a lot of personal campaigning to friends and family this last election.  I just wanted Obama OUT OF THERE..!!! I knew that every vote was going to be crucial to get it done, but it didn't happen.

NOW however, I'm keeping a keen eye to the RTKBA issue. Yeah I love to shoot and do a little hunting now and then, but we all know this issue goes way past that.  It's a litmus test to me of every politician in the country at every level, the way I see it, from county Sheriff to the White House on the real fortitude and direction they EACH want our country and freedoms to go. This is why I can't stand to even look at most of the Democrats. Anybody that can look and listen to them and not think "SOCIALIST" is totally freak'n blind in my book.

If things go left on this issue, then I'm done with both parties and I'll be voting for anybody that AIN'T a member of the Democrat or a Republican party in 2016.

Keep in mind that Obama's OFA is targeting voters in areas where they think that they can get a congresscritter to change their vote.  They had over 100 anti-gun rallies on Friday while pro-gun folks were working.  And every one of them got news attention, no matter how small.  Did anyone see any TV coverage of the 99 pro-gun rallies that were held Saturday?

We need to keep up the pressure because the opposition is pushing this with every lie they can make up.

Our biggest advantage is that a LOT more folks are fervently pro-gun than are anti-gun.

The Canadians tried registering long guns and they figured out that no one complied and it didn't work.  They have registered handguns up there for a long long time and even their handgun registry has problems.

Of course we know how well the Mexican gun registry is working.
