Murfreesboro Police gun buyback this Saturday

The bigger risk you would run would be possession of stolen property.

As was mentioned you have to knowingly possess it to be culpable. Every private sale and trade in the US has the possibility of involving a stolen firearm.

Wouldn't we be covered by sincerely asking the Seller if it is their legally owned firearm to sell?

No paperwork, just exchange Cash for Firearm?

I asked security at the hospital... they had no idea about a gun buy back...just a medicine and drug take back... and it will be in front of the DuPaul building in the parking lot

so is this a thing? are we organizing a TGO buy-back program? I'll come up for a few hours if that's the case. I'd prefer a group (2 or 3 at least) so we can stand in solidarity in case the police start acting stupid about our presence. Its like going to a storage auction - you never know what'll show up. If they are offering $50 gift cards, I bet all we'd have to do is offer $60 cash (shoot even $50 cash). Seriously though, if anyone is going, please please please PM me and i'll join.

Wouldn't a bill of sale from the seller and a picture of their drivers license be sufficient to cover one's rear? Seriously thinking of going with a couple of blank bill of sales, a nice sign "cash for guns" and see what happens.

Seeing a driver's license and having no reason to believe they are prohibited is enough. Ask them, "can you legally own firearms?".

Many people won't do a bill of sale or let you make a copy of their driver's license. Perfectly legal people, like many here.

Do what you like, but none of what you suggest is necessary to CYA.

Having never been to one of these buy backs, isn't the "bait" that the PD don't even ask questions when someone hands in a gun?

If so, someone might not want to sign a bill of sale, or make a copy of a DL.

I figured just asking a seller like Oh Shoot stated would cover a buyer. BUT I may be wrong

The not wanting someone to make a copy of the DL i can understand as that has a fair amount of personally identifying information, but i have never understood why some people are unwilling to sign a bill of sale.

Conversely, I fully understand why many people want to stay as anonymous as possible regarding completely legal private firearms sales.

I called the PD and they have officially moved it to may 4. It's on my calendar.

If too many of us show up it might turn into an impromptu auction- lol

Hershmeister, thanks for calling the PD. I will try my best to make it up there next weekend. I agree with OS, just ask if they legally owned the firearm and that they are a TN resident. (that's all I usually do). See you guys there?
