I'd go with a Glock 26. I have a Glock 27 with a conversion barrel (9mm) and prefer the 9mm over the .40 for several reasons, one of the main reasons being that 9mm is a whole lot cheaper to shoot than .40. Don't let anyone tell you that 9mm is under powered, use the right ammo and you will be fine.

Camo is highly overrated. What's the point if you have to put 500 square inches over it anyway? I own very little camo and rarely hunt in it and the deer don't seem to mind, especially if you are in a blind or a stand. I've shot more deer from a lawn chair wearing blue jeans than anything else. I'd take a quiet and still hunter in full blaze orange over a loud, fidgety, farty one any day.

What modern firearms do you think will be collectable in the future?
10-Ring replied to White Goodman's topic in General Chat
Any Glock, they are the Mosin of the future. Ugly, plentiful, and stupidly simple. -
I can't say if the guy shooting the dog was in the right or not but I've dealt with this situation before with my dogs. I've spent a ton of money on fences over the years and have my dogs on leashes anytime they are out of the fence. Therefore, I have little sympathy for someone who lets their dog run loose. If a dog at large attacks my dog on a leash shots will be fired and I will not be sorry for it.

I don't drink whiskey often but I enjoy a glass now and again. Felt like some bourbon tonight and the cupboards were empty. My birthday is next week so the wife told me to go get a bottle of something. Came home with Jim Beam Devil's Cut, not bad attall.

"Smoking, pregnant, and pajama pants, you're a triple F up!" I ain't sayin' that the guy shouldn't have been arrested but I wouldn't have been calling the cops on him.

Hunter orange for squirrel hunting during deer season??
10-Ring replied to Dirtshooter's topic in Hunting and Fishing
Yes, you must wear orange if hunting for anything during muzzle loader, or rifle deer seasons. -
I can't wait until there isn't a 6 year old sitting next to me and I can watch this.

Rethinking HCP carry after San Bernadino
10-Ring replied to jgradyc's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Seriously though. For the past couple of years my EDC has been a Taurus TCP on me and a bigger gun closer by. After this most recent event I have been considering sticking an AR in the truck as well. I really can't imagine a scenario where I would need it but I'd rather have it and but need it... -

Haven't you heard 10mm is the new .45. -
Nashville Mayor wasting no time...

Now Berry has made a statement that she had zero influence on the decision and wants to go through the proper channels to make sure that the decision that the board made was just and legal. I have to give her credit for this. -
I probably grind more deer than the average hunter and I use a food processor. We had one that was 30 years old that we've used for the past 3 years. I told my wife the other day that I wanted a serious meat grinder and she comes at me with a 14 cup food processor from Hamilton Beach, she brought it home the next day and it set us back $50. I ground parts of two deer that had been in my cooler for a few days on Sunday afternoon. It took me about 15 minutes to grind up around 20 pounds of meat. Certainly faster than she could package it with the vacuum packer. I know it's a little unconventional but it has worked great for me. The only other meat grinders that I've used are the hand crank variety which I do not recommend.

Guess he did get ejected this time...

Just a friendly poke. I have nothing against 9, 10, or .40 for that matter.

It's for people that can't get it done with a 9mm :yuck:

I think I have maybe one hunting spot left that isn't too muddy to get a deer out of.

I always figured one could use the defense "I'm not really sure where those came from, I just found them lying around and put them in my gun."

At around $40 a pop for good stripped lowers what is the appeal of the 80% lowers? I could understand it if lowers were $400 again but last time I looked at 80% lowers they were more than complete ones.

Ok I'll play.

We'd first have to clear it with the foreign companies that own a significant portion of manufacturing facilities in the US.

Smoked sausage and other things to do with deer.

Just checked out the LEM website lots of products at good prices I'm going to order some casings from them before I do another batch. Looks like buying in bulk is the was to go on casings. 100 of them will probably last me 2-3 years but they are much cheaper that way. -
I have mixed feelings. As a high school and college student I was a wrestler. Later I rode motorcycles recreationally and raced them as well. Both took a toll on my body in different ways. I did lots of things to my body as a wrestler that were not healthy, especially not for a growing boy. I stayed dehydrated on purpose, I ate very little, certainly didn't get enough nourishment. I spent hours in saunas wearing trash bags. I understand that TSSAA has done a lot since I was wrestling to curb these things. When I was in high school there were rules about what you did and didn't do to make weight but everyone including the coach treated it as a don't ask don't tell thing and the only important thing was making weight. Besides depriving myself of nutrition I suffered concussions, a shoulder separations and a nose that was broken more times than I could count. During the course of riding motorcycles I suffered concussions, broken ribs, a broken clavicle, and a severely separated shoulder. Point being many activities that we enjoy have inherent risks. Perhaps it could be argued that I didn't make the best choices as a high school and even college aged wrestler, looking back now some of the things that I did were not very smart but I got tunnel vision and all that mattered was making weight. As a motorcycle rider being a somewhat mature adult I completely understood the risks. Likewise I'm not really concerned about Tony Romo breaking his collar bone, that's just part of the risk of playing the game. I do have some concern with high school and college aged athletes that are encouraged by their coaches to make unhealthy decisions and sacrifice their bodies for the schools athletic program. Once they make it to the big leagues they are mature enough to make their own decisions.

Smoked sausage and other things to do with deer.
10-Ring replied to 10-Ring's topic in Hunting and Fishing
Just wanted to do a quick update I made about 25 pounds of sausage using Sidinman's recipe. I did change up a few things. I used powdered mustard instead of mustard seeds and I added cheese and jalapenos. I cooked the sausage in two batches the first at 350 for about an hour and 15 minutes. I cooked the second batch at 300 for an hour and it was much better. I will be using sausage casings in the future as the wax paper left a huge mess. I love the sausage and have gotten nothing but compliments on it.
